I love the look so I went and bought a pair (not easy trying to track a dealer down in NYC but I did it). I'm wearing them around the house for a day or so to break them in before I venture out - but they are a magnificent boot!!

I wish Thorogood's would get their quality control in check. I tried to buy a pair recently and It's embarrassing to see that union stamp on such shoddy work. (Stitching, bad leather).

Well they still have quality control issues. I just left boot barn and really wanted a pair of thorogoods but every single pair they had had some type of issue. A bunch of them had a flaw with the welt, there was about an 1/8 inch gap between the welt and leather on the front of the boots. Ultimately this kept me from getting a pair and instead I bought a pair of Carolinas. I must mention I am talking about the moc toe version of the boot.

Anerican made!!!!! Hopefully we as country start making a lot more of the goods we consume instead of importing. We need to get away from this throw away culture . I love how American made boots are pretty much for life because instead of throwing them away the boot gets better with age and can be repaired

It would be a shame if they decided to discontinue the 1892 Portage like they did the roofers. My roofers most comfortable footwear, period. Please do not discontinue the 1892 Horween, they will last 'forever."

The real thing is that they're built to a price, they have everything they need to and a few minor imperfections accepted to get this quality of boot to you for the money. Plenty of handmade custom boots can be had without these minor imperfections, but one guy is spending many more hours on it and charging 3x or more what these cost. I am perfectly fine with minor imperfections here and there on a boot that's factory manufactured on an assembly line with hand operations, espwith thorogoods. They look nice and perform well, you practically have to put your nose against them to notice anything.

It's beautiful. I intend to start bootmaking and the lace to toe style is way down the list just because of the difficulty and amount of work involved. Gonna make something similar with a more aggressive tread.

As far as having imperfections being a hand made boot. How come the Redwing Heritage Lineman 2996’s or any of the Heritage line are flawless and hard to find any imperfections in them ?

I have Alden, LLBean, Military (Belleville) boots and now thanks to TheBootGuy a really nice pair of 1892 Dodgeville in Cognac. The boots have met all my expectations for a boot in that price range and have no complaints. If you want a flawless boot try an Alden cordovan, currently about $800 at Shoemart. Step your game up. :-)

Hey Bootguy, i have been wearing these last couple of days for 4 5 hours a day... i have bloody blisters on my ankles also the heel cup is slightly inward on my left boot that pains a bit. Did you went through the same pain? 😒

What is the function of so many laces? They are so cool, the more you look at them they better they look, kinda grow on you and with the right pants will look way cool.

Luis Sauceda I’ve heard it flexes more when you bend at the toe. So a roofer who’s in a bent toe position most the day, allows better comfort.

I agree this is prob the most baller heritage style boot if u are really going for true old school functional form and overall sickness of style. I just got a pair of the polish gym shoe" style and are real working boots. I got a lot of respect for thorogood as far as tough and simple construction.

They make a contrast color model that looks so much like bowling shoes. Suede tan outer, and a dark brown polished toe.

Cool, thanks. I just got a pair of the tobacco wedge lace to toe and they are by far the most comfortable and best fitting boots I've owned. I have narrow feet and the lace to toe design helps keeps my foot nice and secure. I'm looking to get a pair of these, I'm just having a hard time choosing which leather to get. I love CXL but I'm thinking of trying out the horsehide version. Do you have any experience with the horsehide?

I have a three pairs of Thorogood boots and love all three of them. I own two for work, and a pair of the 1892 collection, the Beloit for everyday wear/as a dress boot. If you get a chance The Boot Guy, I would definitely like to see a review on the Beloits.

@@weilm I was referring to the sole - not the upper. However, I can speak from experience the sole does indeed have a lot of traction even though it is smooth rubber. I guess you would need that for standing on a roof. They are incredibly comfortable when broken in and I love mine.

I think it's comical how much you're trying to push These Boots vs Redwing boots. You not comparing them side-by-side but you have an obvious and biased preference for some reason. They do make good boots but for me they will never hold up to the quality of Red Wing boot. Just my opinion.

So sorry, have you watched my other videos? I don't cover the box at all. A few days before I shot this video I was in a shop talking with the owner about stocking more brands. They repeatedly said to me that space was an issue. The size of the box matters to small American owned retailers. I guess you could say I was doing this more for them. Really sorry to have wasted your time. One other thing I should point out is, boots like this take a long time to break in. If your time is in a short supply have you looked at lite weight boots like the chan or Normandy by Allen Edmonds?
