I feel like most Jedi who feel they’ve screwed up really badly go into exile or maybe cut themselves off from the Force in extreme cases, but they’d never off themselves. And you’re also right in saying the Jedi aren’t samurai. It’s even assumed that the word “Jedi” came from the film genre “Jidaigeki” which George Lucas took a lot of inspiration from. I think it's believable. But only if they had any character or personality. The Jedi let Maul run around the galaxy and do his shit (which they really should have dealt with but let Palpatine manipulate them into leaving him alone), but they at least had an opinion about it. They never dealt with the fact that Tatooine is still practicing slavery even though they had a whole arc in Clone Wars about the trade, and then they only seemed to care if a potential ally was in trouble as a result When master Katri was killed, Count Dooku was the only one who seemed inclined to investigate and then Windu got the promotion because he didn't make waves. Nevermind they totally had all the clues about Order 66 but didn't take action on it. The Jedi don't seem to react in general to things they really should, but they at least voice their opinions about it. They're concerned, they're troubled, they feel helpless. I don't know what the hell 75% of these characters are thinking because the acting is making Hayden Christensen in the prequels look like Daniel Day Lewis

@darthecclipse10735 ай бұрын
@@neutronstarpilot4393 i hear what you are saying but still have to respectfully disagree. Maybe there was some dark side manipulation, but from Mae's fighting ability, she does not seem to be experienced enough to manipulate a Jedi Master. I reiterate, Disney doesn't understand Jedi, they aren't children who get hurt feelings and run off to cry about it they learn and grow and move on. They aren't Samurai, like Thor said, but they are a mixture of things and Buddhism being a heavy influence. They understand bad things happen and we need to move on and grow from it. That is an attachment, holding onto something for years. But then to do nothing but sit in solitude to then say sorry and kill yourself, just doesn't seem very Jedi like, to me anyway. And Jedi dont think about the individual that way, maybe it is to early to say this but unless him killing himself leads to Mae's rejection of the Dark and ultimately help many others it just doesn't work for me. The idea that came to mind was the redemption of Ulic Qel-Droma from the time of Exar Kun. He joined Kun and helped in leading another galaxy-spanning war between the Jedi and Sith. He was caught and, as punishment, his connection to the Force was severed. Later, he is sought out by the daughter of the Jedi who took away his Force abilities. She begs him to train her. Not in the use of the Dark Side, but in the ways of the Jedi. Even without his connection to the Force, he finally agrees, and in the process, he finds redemption and returns to the light as he trains this apprentice to become a Jedi. The Jedi way is one that honors life and the acquisition of knowledge and enlightenment. Redemption is part of that. Realizing mistakes and committing to correct them. A Jedi ending their life like this doesn't make sense. Even with massive guilt, I would think taking action to attempt to ease the suffering of others, if not completely make right their error would be their approach.

You have a point and it’s the most logical negotiation of the material needed to accept a Jedi taking his own life, but it seems if he was so guilt stricken, he would have done as Yoda or Luke did and go into exile. Staying in a Jedi temple, being so connected to the force as someone else pointed out here, seems very conflicting. He was connected enough with the force to float there day and night, generating his own force field for 10 years, it seems, yet wasn’t able to reconcile his own guilt enough through the clarity of the force that he’s in such a connection with that the only solution is suicide? I have a nasty suspicion "we thought we were doing the right thing" is in essence doubling down on Luke trying to kill Ben Solo. "Nope! Twisty Force users- we kill 'em en masse, when we have the opportunity. We're not so much the Jedi High Council as the Spanish Inquisition, now."

Hey Thor, do you think Jedi Master Torbin would have been able to be so connected to the Force that he could levitate and generate his own Force field day and night if he was as conflicted and guilt-ridden as he was? Do those things, such as a lack of clarity and internal conflict, affect one's ability to connect to the Force, especially to the level that Torbin achieved? Is it possible that a Jedi could be connected to the Force at that level of meditation for 10 years and still not find the clarity to deal with his guilt other than the option he took? Or is this all the explanation? Yoda always told Luke to clear his mind when he was training him to levitate rocks and such. Do you think if Torbin had been utilizing such a level of concentration over the years he wouldn't have had the bandwidth to think about his past tragedy? Basically, he was using all his mental strength to tap into the Force to levitate and protect himself with a shield so he wouldn't have to think about and deal with his guilt? Well, that's all I've got for you this time. :)

Mae and Osha are the same person. Events happened at different times, but being delivered to us sequentially.
@willr816805 ай бұрын
This is my understanding so far: Twin sisters lived on the planet Brendok. A fire broke out in their village when they were 8 years old. Osha (by her own admission/dialogue) witnessed Mae perishing in the fire. Master Sol was able to rescue her and bring her to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He tried to train her as his Padawan, but she was too traumatized to make satisfactory progress. Or, Master Indara wanted the Council to expel her/discontinue her training. Osha made her own decision to leave the Order and live out the quiet life of a meknek. Mae was the person who started the fire (according to the dialogue of Master Sol). She survived, even though two other eyewitnesses watched her die. In the aftermath of the fire, Mae doesn’t know the whereabouts of Osha. She develops the false belief that her sister must have died. For reasons that haven’t been revealed yet, she pledges herself to a Sith Lord. Despite not knowing the identity of the Sith Lord, she’s motivated to train with him/her and carry out “revenge” against a list of four Jedi (are these Jedi who the Sith Lord wants to avenge, or just the four who were stationed at Brendok?). Master Indara ends up being someone who may have recommended against training Osha, but we haven’t been told when Mae believed her sister was already dead. And Osha claimed that leaving the Jedi Order was her own choice. In episode one, Osha discovers information that points to her sister still being alive. She doesn’t act confused or question her own memory or perception of the fire. She’s not upset or angry with Master Sol for giving her false information. In episode two, a shady character, Qimir, ends up selling out Mae to the Jedi who want to arrest her. She literally sees Osha face to face and learns that her sister didn’t die in the fire or during the 16 years since the fire happened. Conflict resolved? Or, after a brief fight, where Mae is no match for Master Sol, she’ll try to confront Qimir. She’s no match for him, either. With the full knowledge that Qimir must have been the person who set the trap where she almost got arrested by the Jedi, she agrees to travel with her betrayer to Kofar, because that’s the location of Kelnacca. Her “revenge” is currently motivated by the knowledge that her sister is alive and well. (Maybe she still thinks the Jedi started the fire, or she’s trying to silence any of the eyewitnesses who could link her or Osha to the fire? She’s a full Sith now, or she’s bought into their ideology, and the Jedi are her ideological opponents?) What have I missed so far? Are we as viewers supposed to be solving the mystery of who started the fire? The identity of the Sith Lord? Qimir would be the most likely suspect.

Your analysis of this episode makes me think that the "Master" might turn out to be a Jedi, either Vernestra or Yord, or the Jedi might be involved with this Dark Side presence. Which would make sense of why the Jedi wouldn't acknowledge this return of the Dark Side in and before the Prequels, as this would completely and utterly undermine their Order. Also the fact that the show was inspired by "The Wrong Jedi" arc of the Clone Wars speaks volumes about this possibility. Keep up the good work Thor!

The biggest mistake so far might well be the runtimes. Making a coherent opening with 30-40min episodes is a fools errand. Unless you're a director/writer of the calibre of Chase, Lynch, Gilligan or Fincher. It shows and then some. Rushed but yet somehow dull. Reminds me of the opening of Ahsoka except there's zero world building in the Acolyte as opposed to hardly any in Ahsoka. The writng is better but my God! Not by much. With that budget SURELY they could and should have fleshed these episodes out to preferably an hour. Then again perhaps they've been cut, which would tell its own story about the material not good enough to make it.

I was waiting for a reviewer to put them on blast for that scene where her force vision leads her on a shortcut by taking the long route, while the Jedi lollygag their way to the same place with no urgency. Can't they sense something is amiss? Also, that meditating master just looked preposterous. It reminded me of when I was in the high school play portraying an old man with white hair and fake mustache. Does not really look like a professional makeup job, just kids playing dress-up. There was twice during the episode when I thought, "stretch out with your feelings." When the first dolt sensed someone escaped through the gaping hole in the ceiling, and then again when Mae raises a dust cloud and blinds the arresting Jedi. Also, the apprentice was hovering in a starship, so it seems plausible that she would be able to detect and follow a fleeing force user quite easily. We can even do that with FLIR helicopters here on Earth.

The editing in this episode really confused me. Mae breaks into the Jedi temple twice? I wasn't sure whether that was the case, or they just cut away to explain why she has poison on her, then cut back to her being in the temple, after she somehow had hidden from the Jedi checking on Torbin. I wonder if the weird editing is on purpose? To cloud the timeline of events? There's no sign of Mae when Osha and the crew rock up? So, who was there and when? Poison is a weapon, although not steel or laser. Osha was a Jedi at one time; was her dream killed? I wonder if the unusual timing of Osha arriving at Torbin way before the others is intentional? If so, what could that mean? Coz it seems like another really obvious continuity error. Mae not realising Osha is alive until seeing her at the end of the second episode, after Osha had that force vision in the first episode and the crazy guy could sense the darkness in Osha, perhaps even sensing Mae, was wild! It just threw me, but not until that moment where they look at each other, for some reason. And I wonder why or how Mae had no idea Osha was alive? I dunno if Jedi police force use but it would definitely make them wonder how someone learned to use it if the Jedi didn't train them and they haven't heard about Sith for a thousand years.

I don't necessarily have a problem with them showing a Jedi giving in to death for some sort of penance, but not by their own hands- the easy solution is to have an Obi-Wan moment where he gives in and lets her 'strike him down'. That would have been more fitting, might have planted seeds of doubt and confusion in Mae that would make her character more conflicted and interesting, and it could have been done in the first break in to avoid the contrivance of her returning through the obvious security flaw that the Jedi left open for no discernable reason. Anyways, I have no problem with portraying the Jedi as stuffy and overbearing almost to the point of being mildly authoritarian - even in a way that they are convinced that other force religions other than the Sith may pose a risk enough to take violent action against in certain circumstances - so long as they show it's a problem with their institutional structure and politics and the like, not their core spiritual principles. However, I don't have confidence in the writers' competence or good faith analysis of the Jedi or moral dilemmas in general, so I can only say I'll wait and see.
@kevinarnold79575 ай бұрын
It’s especially egregious by having the depressed Jedi more powerful than the Sith wannabe. Meaning: No matter what she tries she can’t even attack him in his meditative state. A state which can only be achievable through inner peace of the force, presumably. If he is at such peace, why would he be susceptible to guilt. Anyway, the Jedi asks forgiveness of the lesser powered Sith wannabe. So, good is asking forgiveness of evil. This makes no sense. The writing is horrific.
@kevinarnold79575 ай бұрын
And I do not like either of the episodes. The episodes do not follow the any Jedi traditional powers. It’s as if they do not have access to their powers at some points, then conveniently have more powers at other points. Apparently, they are unable to sense evil even when right beside them now. And a room with an open window or an open hole in the ceiling - everyone checks the open hole in the ceiling and not the open window with no glass. Not to mention the Trinity scene, a Sith wannabe telling a Jedi the rules of when to draw a lightsaber? Trinity seeing the assassin is trying to kill her and others, then asking what she is trying to do. Even after asking still not pulling her lightsaber in defense. Yes, Jedi remarkably do not pull sabers to only kill, but also defend. This has been a standard practice since we were first introduced to Jedi from the very beginning. This storyline is horrible in every scene and line of dialogue.

I agree with most of what your mention here. I think maybe Tobin needed that opening in the roof to get in contact with the force in his meditation. But it's still strange that they didn't guard him. About this Samurai comparison, George took a bit of inspiration from that when he created the Jedi, but since he is creative he only took a piece and build up the rest himself. When today's creators are doing it they think " it's based on Samurai and then they think it's a carbon copy with lightsabers. This means that you don't get it, you don't understand the basics of star wars. Then it feels like Leaslye's love for Rian's work was presented already, shirtless men for no reason....... But logically, should the Jedi from 100 years prior to the downfall of the Jedi not be better? Also, Jedi are taught to let go. But all of them are attached strongly to things. Politics, former padawans, former mistakes. That is NOT what Jedi are taught, and to think in a brief span the Jedi would lose their way so much, just to become relatively normal in the Prequel era again, when it comes to attachment. If any of the Prequel Jedi made a mistake, he would morn it, meditate a bit, but move on, because that is what Jedi lore is. NOT overly attach oneself to the past, to mistakes, grief but live in the HERE AND NOW. Whoever conceptualized has either not understood the Jedi at all, or on purpose tries to smear them. I vaguely recall a line about how the main poison ingredient slows or stops the victim's metabolism, which is something a Jedi who is especially strong at meditation might be able to survive if prepared for it. It's far fetched, but it all could have been a trick to make her think she was successful. Similar plots are used all the time in TV and movies, and it's equally far fetched to believe that Torbin would have suddenly killed himself after 10 years. Torbin clearly knew she was coming for him because she poisoned him on visit #2. As for episode #3, everyone has heard that it will make the Jedi look very bad. I haven't seen it. Maybe instead of thinking that a jedi would not kill themselves, we need to think that they did something so wrong that they would do the unthinkable.

You’ve given this a lot of thought. I respect that. The showrunners are not that intelligent. The series is going to tank moving forward

I think it was really the Jedi that started the fire, the group being targeted. The family were probably Dark Side users and they got sent to clean them out, ordered to kill them all, but one decided to take in the only family member they didn’t kill (or think they killed, like the twin).

The only time we've ever seen a jedi take their own life was Shak'Ti, in the force unleashed (non canon ik) when she jumped off the cliff to not get captured/killed by starkiller. So I agree
