Leaving Jesusland is my favorite NOFX song. Its scathing, and it is so badass.

I wouldn’t do the decline. That’s what everyone does. I’d check out “eat the meek” for a very different vibe, or “it’s my job to keep punk rock elite”. Nofx is rad
@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai3 жыл бұрын
I don’t really like the actual sound, music-wise, of The Decline, but the lyrics are the important thing. Just super-real and not trying to be funny. I love the fact that everyone does it, that means a lot of people are hearing that song and hopefully having their perspectives on life changed, even if it’s just slightly.

I'm an old punk. Hell, I used to drink at the bar in their song 'Seeing Double at the Triple Rock'. It's gone now, but it was a great place to hang out. (They even sold 40's, and brought out a champagne bucket with ice and a 40 for my girlfriend and me one time.) But I also listen to a lot of old hip hop and rap. Minneapolis has a lot of local talent that doesn't get much exposure. If you want to see an amazing man that stands up for rights, check out Brother Ali. He has a masterpiece called "Uncle Sam Goddamn" - which got him put on the NSA watch list because he spoke the truth. And no, this wasn't under Trump - it was under the Obama administration. I guarantee 'Uncle Sam Goddam' will hit you hard. I'd like to see your reaction, and it gives Brother Ali more well deserved exposure. (By the way - it was written over a decade ago and it covers everything that is still going on.)

Fat Mike fully controls his music from recording to distribution. He's completely self-sufficient so he can get away with saying anything he wants in his songs. As he runs his own labels, he signs bands he likes, and they can say whatever they want and so on and so forth. That's pretty common with a lot of those smaller self-owned punk labels (Epitaph, SideOneDummy, AsianMan etc)

Dude, just stumbled on you and your punk rock reactions. Havent seen many people do reactions to punk so much. Amongst many other genres I grew up on punk and hip hop. Unsurprisingly so many parallels in those two genres. Lots of respect between both genres too which I think is super cool. Anyway, check out more Bad Religion too. Older stuff though. Propagandhi from Canada are huge on world issues. Check them out. And other random bands would be Descendants, Dag Nasty, Minor Threat, Operation Ivy, Circle Jerks, Husker Du, The Germs, Swingin Utters, Screeching Weasal, Poison Idea, Strung Out, and the list goes on. And there are actually tonnes of bands still doing this type of music. Loads!

Fat mike (the singer and bassist from NOFX) wrote a musical called "home sweet homeless". It's about an hour and a half long. Give it a watch. It's pretty amazing. Also, check out a band called off with their heads. Their songs are more about internal struggles and having to deal with anxiety, anger, depression, and despair. But, they're amazing songs that most punk rockers can relate to. Keep on doing what you're doing man.

Spot on. Although I love all genre's, punk's freedom of speech while dripping with sarcasm has always had a strong appeal for me. If you like this, should check out The Drop Kick Murphy's, Street Dogs, the Clash and Bouncing Souls. Murphy's and Street Dogs are big supporters of labor. Do a lot of charity work in Boston. Punk musicians also tend to be less egotistical and more approachable than those of other genre's. After I had a long discussion about globalization and labor markets with Mike McColgan of Street Dogs, he wrote a song about it.

I'm pretty sure NOFX coverd MXPX... Just kidding but it was a pretty good version of it. It can't be easy to cover an 18 minute song and do it justice, staying true to yourself/play style while keeping it authentic and true to the original. Like Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. Stayed true to his style but just as Authentic as The original.

90's punk rock is my favorite era period of any music. I was in HS then and NOFX were the kings. Unfortunately they went super far left politically so they kinda only whined all the time. I still love them bc I can separate the art from the artist. They're my all time favorite band and I played in a punk band for 15 years and we toured around the southeast. Now as an old ass 44 year old I listen to Tom MacDonald mainly. He's a punk rocker that raps (and has reasoned, thought out political positions).

Definitely second the request for you to give their song The Decline a listen (it is 18 minutes long but it won't feel like it), it hasn't lost any relevance in it's message and stance on where we in society since it's release. NOFX have been going since the 80's and I think they are in double album figures now, I would whole heartedly start working through back catalogue of all that they have done. Some tracks are out and out fun for the sake of being silly, some hold very heavy messages, some are completely aimed at social commentary or the state of the world and some of their songs exist just because. Plenty for you to get through and I look forward to hearing your thoughts afterwards.
