How miserable to be in a relationship where you feel you have to actively prevent your partner from cheating! I want a relationship where I don't have to keep my partner on a leash, I want him to be free to do whatever he wants and for him to CHOOSE to be faithful. If he would cheat given the opportunity then he's not worth having.

Fr we both get slightly jealous but we both realize it's an insecurity thing and we are both so faithful, I think that's the main thing, these men don't realize it's an insecurity and try to work on it, they just think that's how it is supposed to be

my parents have been in a loving relationship for over 25 years now. my dad has proposed I think twice during those 25 years, the second one mostly jokingly. my mum said no because since she was a little girl she was firm in her belief against marriage. they call each other partners. they both have very diverse hobbies and travel alone often, for work and for fun. they were both solo backpackers in their youth. they travel together a lot too. they're each others main support system and still show physical and verbal affection to each other every day, they talk at length about each others day and gossip about work and discuss politics. they share all chores. I can't remember ever seeing them fight, even if they do argue like every couple does. they're now amazing grandparents to my older sister's kids. they both have plenty of friends of the opposite gender. I mean this with zero disrespect but I've seen most of my friends married parents end in divorce or stuck in an unhappy relationship. it breaks my heart to listen to my friends mums talk about the life they would lead if they were alone, travelling and partying, getting different jobs and pursuing art. I will never ever understand the idea of years without a ring = not a committed loving partnership. your partner should be like a best friend that supports and advises you, not a hindering to your independence.

Regarding the pride stuff - it’s always so funny to me that people think gay is inherently sexual. Like that one person “my husband and I don’t feel the need to flaunt our sex life” or whatever -that’s not what’s happening? And if expressing your sexual orientation is inherently sexual, just about anything Disney has ever made is sexual.

saying hes not allowed to have drinking buddies because she doesn't want him to develop a drinking problem is ineffective at preventing a drinking problem. He could drink at home. He could lie about where hes going. he could sneak nips at work. if shes really concerned about excessive drinking she needs to talk about her concerns and together they can find a way that helps. they could even decide "please dont let me go out with the guys because i need to remove myself from that situation" and that can be healthy! but i think the way shes going about it leans into controlling and you cant control someone out of an addiction. like "you cant control yourself so i must control for you" which tbh i think a lot of the people who think going to a bar is cheating also have that viewpoint.
@Zectifin5 ай бұрын
yes but you should also support your partner and help them with their problems. If your partner had food or drug addictions would you not encourage them to not do things that would harm themself, or is that too controlling? If its someone you're planning on spending the rest of your life with and they are putting their long term health at risk its at least worth a talk and encouragement.

I went to a small local pride event a few weeks ago. There was a singer, some very funny drag performers, a poetry reading, stalls set up by some local organisations, including the local library and some of the kind of audience participation exercises that kids usually love and adults... have more of a mixed reaction to. I for one was happily wayching from the BACK of the crowd. Honestly, the vibe was a lot like a lot of other local fairs and carnivals I've been to, only with a little more drag and 80s music and a lot less commercialisation.

15 years is probably the average amount of time many marriages end - but also, no different than when a relationship of 8-14 years ends (in most ways). I agree that those years aren't technically "wasted," though it feels that way when one's primary purpose in life is finding someone to grow old with. They feel they wasted their "prettiest years" on the wrong person, and may have a more difficult time finding that forever person now that those years are behind them. I believe it's common for people aged 40+ to be "on the market," however, and it's not as difficult for them to find another partner as some might presume.

I have been with my partner for 8 years and I constantly get digs, jokes and comments about not having a ring yet. What they don't realise is that we have had discussions and we have other priorities ahead of marriage. We want to get our own house, he needs to wait to see if he gets a permanent contract since his work was taken over by another company (and he won't hear until next year), he also wants to get his drivers license and a car and I need to complete my PhD and secure a job. Then, we will look towards marriage. Everyone has different priorities and opportunities available to them. We just want to ensure we are on solid ground.

I think you might have gotten the intention of the second post wrong - the post was made by a gay man, likely in response to a lot of the pearl clutching that appears during pride month about kink or sexual expression at pride. I do actually think there's some merit in 'not everything has to be kid friendly and thats okay'. I think his approach is more 'don't expect us to change because you don't want your kids seeing it'. Some of the replies are definitely a yikes though. I also want to say that pride IS in part about celebrating gay sex - and that's good. They want to take away our right to have sexual relations with each other, and we should celebrate and fight for that. My personal take on 'should kids be at pride' is that if a kid is old or responsible enough to go on their own, they're old enough to see whatever they see. If they're not, then it's up to the parent's discretion. That simple. Especially when you consider that people online act like you're gonna see obscene shit at pride when at most its a handful of guys in leather. This is from someone who believes sexual expression is a huge part of queer liberation and should be celebrated.

6:12 I think the issue that people are running into here is that many of the original pride parades *were* child free spaces. The kink community was a huge part of pride parades and still is a large part of a lot of them and the people in that side of Pride can feel pushed out of a place that they created and that used to be safe for them to be and celebrate their True Self. Being a member of the Alphabet Mafia is a subversive act, just like being into kink play; they're subverting the Hetero/Vanilla-normativity of society. By taking a space that used to be a celebration of that subversion and saying "now you gotta be family/child friendly" it can feel like being forced back into the closet and come off as a new form of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Not saying that Child Friendly Prides shouldn't exist at all, but there is an arguement to be made in general about everything (especially Pride) needing to be childfriendly, sanitized and turned into family events. And we can't *just* say "oh, don't come to this specific one" cause parents bring their children to Adult Things constantly. Remember when parents were freaking out about Deadpool being R rated and a superhero film at the same time cause "superheros are for kids?" The rainbows of Pride get the same reaction from parents and "rainbows are for children" is actually one of the responses in the threads shown as examples in the video. I don't know how to fix it, just saying that I could understand OP's point if they didn't say what they said next.
@Keznen5 ай бұрын
Guess we asexuals can't come to those if there's tons of overtly sexual content there. But then again, so many of our own spaces have been overrun by hypersexual paraphiliacs falsely claiming to be asexual and trying to twist the definition of what asexuality is, so it's not surprising. We don't care about "subverting" anything. We just want to be accepted for who we are and not have that ruined by people calling us "prudes"/"late-bloomers" or by the self-described "sex-postives" trying to change the definition of what it means to the asexual and screaming at us actual asexuals for daring to be upset about it.

No, sorry! Why be mad if a woman doesn't want to be with anyone? Wouldn't your scenario mean that the woman needed the wedding ring for her rejection to be taken seriously? That her opinion was disregarded enough times that she had to resort to a symbol of being taken by someone else already for men to listen to her rejection. Which then is still not enough because she's still 'doing it wrong'.
