Close but the story originated from the Australian aborigines doing the same thing. If it was a very cold evening and they would need warmth the aboriginal people would muster a few dogs together for their body heat while the men slept. Hence the term " Three dog night"

One does not have to understand the language a song is sung in as the message is understood through the emotions of the band. On a personal side, I enjoy watching others make discoveries of great music. A "three dog night" is actually a reference to the weather and temperature. A long time ago, depending on how cold it was, determined how many dogs you slept wth. A three dog night was extremely cold. 😅 Great reaction guys, thanks!

The name 'Three Dog Night' comes from the habit of the nomadic indigenous Australian Aborigines to curl up with their dogs at night.
