I love this song but--to be honest--I think the studio version is much better than this live performance.
@centuryrox2 жыл бұрын
@@wavelength7503 I can appreciate all that. However, for a first time listener, I think it's crucial that they listen to the band at its best, and that's almost always the studio version.
@seannovack38342 жыл бұрын
@@wavelength7503 as I commented over on the Patreon page, before the music video became an art form onto itself in the 1980's, these videos were often simply sub-par live performances recorded somewhere nobody even remembers anymore. Obviously there are exceptions to that statement, but the fact of the matter is that for the vast majority of "videos" from the 60's and 70's, the studio version sound is superior in every way. For a first time reactor, hearing that studio version is the best bet to hear the best version of that song, and will also bring more viewers back to the channel - and get more subscribers.
@MoMoMyPup102 жыл бұрын
@@seannovack3834 yes, and it's not only that. The studio version is the version that we all know, bought, and heard on the radio. Play the hit, like we heard the hit. It really drives me bonkers that people do the Live, unless it is specifically requested. And far too many reactors don't read the comments so they'll never get this feedback. So be it.

For those of us who listened to 3 Dog Night in their heyday, they had a bunch of hit songs. Very popular in the early 70, when I was not quite a teenager. Speaking for myself, these songs bring me back to my childhood. Perhaps to a new generation like today, the song doesn’t stand the test of time. I can see why this band doesn’t connect with everybody. That doesn’t diminish just how popular and important this band was and is to so many from my generation.

DayOne Reacts , I am an older guy who grew up listening to the music you are reacting to. I noticed that whenever you play a live version of a song, you don't enjoy it as much as you would enjoy an original recording. Trust me, the original recording of SHAMBALA is soooooooo much better than this live performance, and so are many other songs you reacted to. You should try the original recordings.

No problem, Angela. Thanks for keepin' it real. Not high on my list either, but no blame on the requestor(s) - it is a good representation of the 70's - Three Dog Night was pretty huge, but we all had different favorites, and that's all good. The clothing styles on display here are classic 70's. Historically, for 1975, and speaking personally, this super-idealistic "Road to Shambala' concept fell a bit flat in the years of the end of the Viet-Nam war, the Watergate scandal, economic recession, energy crises, and rising global tensions in 1975. Rather than distract from those ongoing problems, at the time, this song sort of reminded me of them and the vast cavern between Utopia and reality. Still, it had a good hook, and was a memorable track from a good band.
@shannonwittman9502 жыл бұрын
Reminds me of my foolish carefree youth. Three Dog Night hit the top-40 charts big in the late 1960's with "One," then they'd toss out a new chart-er every 8 months or so. They (or their producers) were masters at the poppy 2:30 radio-play singles. Another similar upbeat they did was "Celebrate." One of my favorite TDN's was a more mellow also-ran single called "Out In The Country."
@greg29762 жыл бұрын

Shambhala, according to Buddhist tradition, is a mythical kingdom that is said to exist somewhere between the Himalaya Mountains and the Gobi Desert. In Shambhala, all of the citizens have achieved enlightenment, so it is the embodiment of Tibetan Buddhist perfection. This legend inspired the 1933 novel “Lost Horizon,” by English writer James Hilton, who modified the name of the place to "Shangri-La." The novel later became the basis for the 1937 feature film of the same name, directed by Frank Capra.

From Google: Shambhala is a real place and various ideas about its location have been propounded: it is often placed in central Asia, north or west of Tibet. Ancient Zhang Zhung culture, which pre-dates Tibetan Buddhism in western Tibet, identifies Shambhala with the Sutlej Valley in Himachal Pradesh

The best music of the 70s comes from the early 70s in terms of hits. Disco took over the late 70s and produced songs that I like better now than I did back then. Yes, I'm talking about BeeGees. There was good music being done in the mid 70s, it's just that most of it wasn't on the billboard list of top 100. I'm talking about music from Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, which was quite good in the mid70s. By the late 70s, Disco took over the hot 100 scene but underneath disco, music was changing, moving to punk with groups like the Clash and more underground stuff and moving to New Wave with groups like Talking Heads and Blondie. You won't find a great AM radio songs in the mid to late 70s on par with early 70s songs like Layla and Stairway to Heaven.
