This track is about the stupidity of War. “When victory is to survive and death is defeat.” Glad you young ones are experiencing music that matters. Slayer are storytellers of how evil humans can be. They are not satanic, not war lovers and are definitely not hate mongers! Just every day husbands/fathers/grandfathers at this point. Your parents are very wise and thoughtful by letting you spread the wonderful love of all music!

Seasons in the Abyss is one of the finest heavy metal/thrash albums ever produced. 1st, gotta say, you girls rock. You wonder how their necks aren't sore from headbanging. Sadly, the singer, Father Tom Araya, wasn't able to swing his head for the last 10+ years of his career. It was a huge factor on their decision to retire, this past Nov.

Caveat on Headbanging: their singer Tom Araya needed back surgery several years ago. It actually postponed a concert I had tickets for. Since he had that surgery he doesn’t Headbang anymore- he’s very stationary on stage if you look at newer footage.

" Scored earth " is when a retreating army puts all crops to the torch and all cattle under the sword. Meaning to destroy any food or supplies the advancing army can use. Depriving them of any sustenance. The Emperor of Russia is a perfect example when he implemented scorth earth as they were retreating away from Napoleons advancing army

Encircle the front lines, is a tactic that basically one army surrounds the forward lines in battle. Once you surround any unit of any size, you have effectively cut off their supply lines and avenues of retreat and is only a matter of time before their ability to wage war is diminished because eventually they will exhaust their ammunition food but especially water. At this point they must either surrender or be killed one by one.

I've been watching this channel for a while now. This is the video that got me to subscribe, 'cause that somber, slightly shocked reaction to this song... those are the tones in which war should be discussed. Maybe I'm projecting, but I see expressions of empathy for the victims of the described carnage, and a healthy fear of the subject. With all melodrama intended, I'm going to say these are signs of strong souls and unscarred minds. Kerry King himself once said something to the effect that Slayer is not music for normal people, and I feel like that's what we're seeing here. The recoiling of young, healthy minds from the hell Slayer speaks of. I feel it's a good thing to see, and awakens a tiny bit more hope in my darkened, cynical heart for the future of the world. I hope you like Slayer, girls, but I also hope you never _need_ them the way so many of us did. As for sore necks, Tom Araya can no longer bang his head 'cause the years and the weight of the bass destroyed his spine to the point that he required vertebral fusion surgery. Here, I was going to throw in a joke connecting his destroyed spine and his alleged support of this republican administration, but it wouldn't be funny. Anyway, if there's a healthy way of headbanging, I don't know anything about it, so this Gen X metalhead pays now for his youthful exuberance then, and advises you to moderation. _Ow._
@chaz98014 жыл бұрын
Headbanging is like anything else physically. If you use a muscle enough, it becomes much stronger. Jason Newsted from Metallica is one of the hardest headbangers around. Just look up photos of him and look at the size of his neck. And the drummer Dave Lombardo is one of the greats and fast as hell, just like the whole band. And R.I.P. to Jeff Hannaman.

Wow! Incredibly surprised that you chose Slayer as your first band to react to. As an old Metalhead, I usually advise those diving into Metal to wait until you've heard a couple hundred songs before taking these dudes on. Lol, Slayer is definitely an "acquired" taste to some...and also enough to sour a lot of people on what Metal is and scare em off. They aren't yet able to appreciate what Slayer is and what they do.
