Lemon balm is such an underrated plant, in my opinion. I can't believe so many people have never even heard about it!! It should be more wide spread, its so easy to grow and has many good uses, like you said.

Thanks for the info! I have had many encounters with the benefits of lemon balm. The first time that I saw its miraculous results was about 15 years ago when my daughter was feeling really sick after eating ham that wasn't totally fresh and she was on her way to the hospital. I went to meet her and on my way I purchased a small bottle of water and a Melissa tea pouch at a cafe. I placed the pouch inside the water and brought it to my daughter... about fifteen minutes later when I arrived my daughter was pale and yellowish feeling the digestive discomfort typical of food poisoning, she started drinking the cold tea from the bottle and once she was finished she was feeling 100% better. Before my intervention she was headed for the hospital where she would have been left to wait until a doctor would attend to her and probably bombard her with all kinds of medication. I have used and abused of lemon balm since then as it grows in my property. Last night after having eaten way too many Star cookies which immediately made my stomach feel bloated, I went to bed feeling quite uncomfortable and soon after I had to get up feeling quite miserable which led me to the bathroom with chills. I picked some fresh Melissa threw it into a large cup of boiled water and started drinking it after letting it steep for 5 minutes. After half a cup of tea my total discomfort started to fade and several sips later I was back to my normal self! This is absolutely true, I recommend this plant to everyone. I usually chop up a few bits of the plant which I add to my salads! It's a godsend!

Thank you for sharing. When I moved here, lemon balm was already established in the front flower bed against the north side of the house. I knew nothing about it, nor did anything about it, at the time. The next year, WOW, did it take over! I pulled and pulled to get it out. I broke out in a rash from head to toe and had to quit pulling. The next year (this year) there was almost as much. But, I got it under control. 😆 Now, I know much more about the plant, and what the benefits of it are. Today, I'm going to make some lemon balm tea, with some home grown camomile in it. Thank you for a well informed video. I also love the idea of putting some in vases around the house❣

I love Lemon Balm tea over ice in the summer, I also combine it's fresh leaves with either fresh Peppermint, Sweet Mint or Spearmint leaves. That also makes an awesome tasting tea.

I just can't believe how fast lemon balm grows.. Its unbelievable that literally every day I check on it and give it some water its much bigger.. It seems to be growing faster than my many mint plants and mint grows very fast also. It also stays in its own area and doesn't invade the rest of my yard even my mint stays in its patch where for some people it can be a nightmare to plant those types of herbs directly into the ground because they can spread and become hard to get rid of...

Last year I found some "mint" plants growing in pots with other plants, like as weeds. I moved one and replanted in a large bag. It's flowering for the first time and it's Lemon Balm for sure. Didn't see anything coming to the flowers, so I was disappointed-- but now seeing lots of Ultragreen Sweat Bees visiting the flowers. I love these little guys-- so pretty!

Hello, I first heard of lemon balm after watching the video "the power of lemon balm" on Danu's Irish Herb Garden channel. The lady convinced me to try lemon balm as a tea so I did.. I bought a lemon balm plant from a big box store and put it in a terracotta container... And I had many wonderful cups of lemon balm tea w/ honey last summer... Then in the winter it stopped growing so I thought maybe the plant died.. This spring it seemed to grow back but right now it doesn't look good, your video tells me I need to put it in the ground, so I'm going to do it today. Do you fertilize your lemon balm? It looks so green and beautiful. I read somewhere that you shouldn't fertilize lemon balm because it would change the flavor of it or something, but that doesn't seem to sound right... Thanks for making this video.

Thanks for the video. I’ll check out more of yours. If I grow herbs in one of my raised beds, do you think it would work to put partitions (effectively mini-raised beds) within the bed such that plants like those in the mint family are contained to the space I allocate, instead of letting them spread as they tend to? I’m a rookie on herbs, so just looking for tips. Now off to the video in link in your description ...
@nursecheri62
@nursecheri62 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Absolutely keep it partitioned off, if you want to try and contain it. Just remember, the seeds it drops will often germinate new plants. I have several plants that just sprang up near my established lemon balm plants.

In my experience, (I noticed this happening to mine), I think it may have gotten a bit sunburned or it may have been due to uneven watering. It is in the mint family, so it does like moisture and probably less harsh afternoon sunshine. I have several plants, and the ones that grew in the drier parts of my garden bed and in the areas with the full harsh afternoon NC sunshine, were where I saw this happening last year. Hope this helps

Could I grow these in fabric containers?
@nursecheri62
@nursecheri62 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can grow it in fabric containers, however, you would want to protect the plants and roots from freezing temperatures. Growing them in bags will help contain it/keep it from taking over. It is very prolific! Lol. But the aroma and medicinal benefits( please take the time to research the herb) far outweigh any problems, especially if you put it containers or place it in an area of your garden where you don't mind it multiplying. So, so easy to grow.

Is Lemon Balm a good distraction for keeping cats from fouling in my vegetable garden patch? Regards Gary….
@Gardenary
@Gardenary 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, the best way to keep cats out of your garden soil is to keep it planted instensively (no bare soil for them to dig) or some form of a barrier (mesh cloth for example kzbin.info/www/bejne/mX3EhKttg9ifoZo)
