You must have the patience of a saint to seam rip the entire dress...
@peanutbutter75218 жыл бұрын
I know right. Seam ripping is a grade a pain in the butthole
@vanessas24546 жыл бұрын
Right? Takes forever, easily the most time-consuming (and least enjoyable) part of sewing. Sometimes it´s possible to undo some seams keeping the thread intact (for example overlock stitch) which allows you to work with the exact right shade of thread to go with the fabric. But if it´s just a plain old stitch, seam-ripping feels so destructive. The only good aspect of it is seeing exactly how an item was made and the pieces put together. When I need neither the original thread nor the entire fabric including the seam allowance, I usually just cut instead of seam-ripping.

Hi Alice, I hope you don't mind an old man joining your followers. Your ideas are great and well explained. However I am living on my own and my daughters have both had something of mine but not come back so I still need a lot of knowledge. I have been sewing for about 6 months and thoroughly enjoy it. But I am learning that apart from a shirt or standard trousers etc there is little offered in the way of men's clothes. Do you ever do fancy yet casual clothes for men at all? If you don't, don't worry as I will still keep watching just for ideas and techniques. You are doing a brilliant job.

That dress is adorable! I liked seeing your artistic process on how you created it. I have to say though, wish you did a few more videos that were DIY little-to-no-sew for those of us who don't have sewing machines but still want to get crafty with clothes. This dress is beautiful but definitely a project for someone who is more advanced like yourself. I still really enjoy this content in general and hope you continue with thrifters transformations but a new t shirt recon now & then or something with little sew skills needed would be cool so us beginner viewers could following along :)

You are doing such a great job and attracting a young interested audience! The one thing I would add from an experienced sewer is that you should do/show just a little more pressing-it gives that last touch of quality to the work. I never pressed when I started sewing-too slow, I just wanted to make progress! But then as I got better at it, I found that the small investment of time was very much worth it. Just a little craft iron and pressing pad right next to your sewing machine might be a good investment. But just an excellent channel. Finding nice garments with expensive fabrics cuts your costs immensely. Fabulous!

The only thing I would have changed with this dress would have been to enclose the seam allowance along the waistline within the lining and the fashion fabric by sewing the skirt layers between the bodice's lining and fashion fabric. Other than that, it's wonderful! Although, since you have a serger, I think the way you did it works fine too. I just personally don't like the feeling of seam allowance touching my skin at a place fitted such as the waist. That, and make sure the pattern of the mesh aligns up on the sleeves, though you said you were running out of fabric, so it makes sense if there wasn't enough to cut along the same grain line. Anyway, I love how creative and crafty you are with reimagining these! I graduated a while back with a degree in fashion design and these videos have rekindled my love for sewing a bit as it has gotten a bit dulled. Great job, and sorry for the long comment. I'm just excited. ^^

+A.L. Talay Start with a little piece of fabric and needle and tread and learn to hand sew. Don't put it off. Just have a little project beside your favorite spot in the house to sit and whenever you sit for a spell make a few stitches. You will never regret taking up sewing - it is so much fun and so practical. Don't look at what an expert like coolirpa is doing -- yes take inspiration about what your future can hold from her but do a little hand project them work up to the big stuff - making stuff from old stuff doesn't cost you either. There are oodles and oodles of sewing supplies in second hand stores for pennies.

some dumbells probably find her videos to lack templates (even though everyone's body is diff), no sizes and explanation about everything (even though she does explain many things) and may even think that making something takes too much time and is a waste of theirs. People dislike for completely stupid reasons, just bc they stuble upon a diy video they will never do, they just hit dislike. i never understood the purpose of a dislike on videos like these.

By having done a couple more fittings the top could have had a better shape but not everyone wants their dress to fit their form that well too. Which I understand. The little overshirt idea is fabulous! It's really neat to see step by step someone do what I hate to do.. take something apart, I don't mind the putting it back together but I'd rather start from scratch than have to take something fully apart. Granted now.. I kinda realize it takes just as long to create, then use a pattern than it probably does to take something apart and redesign it. I just don't like the limitations of pre-cut pieces.. lovely work though! Give new life to old garments!
