Dumpster diving for some more treasures and scrap metal as usual, everything was going just great... until the security guy found us!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3jrO2iS
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
This is the cheaper version: amzn.to/2SwrYsB
And here are those grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)
Please like/share this video if you enjoyed it, and subscribe to thubprint!

I admire your calm and mature demeanor in the face of a potentially contentious encounter. Also the fact that you didn't stop doing what you were doing just because Security arrived, which helps support the position that you weren't doing anything wrong. I suspect you've had dozens of similar encounters with homeowners, security personnel, and the neighborhood busybody. Thanks for the good example!

I sometimes forage as a hobby. Its like scraping the weeds. I have had many encounters including at the police station which happened to have service berries, hack berries, nanny berries(whih ripen at different times but still astounding to have 3 edibles there). . Those always went well. In another case, which was a good spot for wild grapes (which makes a very drinkable wine) I was chased off last year. My favorite one must be the cornelian cherry at some apartment complex. . They are ripe when on the ground . The way I process is sterilizing anyway ( compote, wine , jam, syrup), but as I was picking them some woman in a car asked my if I was OK , and when I responded she followed with "Are you sure". I knew about scraping long time ago when I was a construction laborer. When I found a 3 foot long heavy gauge copper cable while foraging , well I realized now have two fields of opportunity.

3:08 Brother... I tell ya, I've made some really mean "friends". I'm only 4 months into this awesome hobby. But I've got to get some magnetic door signs and maybe a roof cap saying "Recycle" or "SCRAP" . Most people think its weird to dumpster dive. I did too. But shit! It's a rush! Seeing all the free money people JUST THROW AWAY! I'm all about that scrap life now. And I'm one happy Panda. Love your content bro. Thanks for all the tips. Keep it up. CHEERS!

Diplomacy is always a good tactic. I'm sure the security guard has had prior interactions with people that were less than friendly. You made his day easier too, In all the decades I've been dumpster diving, I've only ever been hassled once. It was a Salvation Army donation center. The building was in a fenced lot, so you could only check the dumpster when they were open. The dumpster was kinda close to the back door. I suspected the staff were probably stashing things they wanted to keep in the dumpster. One of the staff members caught me there. I gave them shit for tossing e-waste into a dumpster that would end up as landfill waste. That didn't deter me from poking around there in the future. I would just do a quick hit and run on my bike, and get out of there before anyone noticed!

A truck makes a huge difference! There’s a Brit who goes by vandal vlogs with a sweet setup in a van too, he’s got a toolbox on the wall and it’s basically a mobile shop space as well as scrap hauler. I’m a bit envious of how self-contained his system is tbh, so that could be a good way to go as well
@ThePentadecagon

@@thubprint true i just like the idea of an open top storage cuz you can stack up and over the side rails some whilst still being safe plus trucks handle a lot more weight.

How do they tell how much steel you have? It looks like you are just tossing it on the ground. I assume they weigh your truck before and after, but can they differentiate between the grades of metal you are unloading? I don't understand that process.
@thubprint
@thubprint 2 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to show that more clearly in another vid, but yes it’s just a big scale you drive onto inside the building. You have to do laps, dump one kind of material then drive around and weigh again, then go out and unload the next type and weigh again on your way out. Pretty easy math

love your in-action vids, was real curious how you would handle the encounter, i just had one last friday, (it's sunday) nicely done tho, he wanted to shake your hand, (my other last encounter (a month back) resulted with the security guard calling the cops on me) dude was seriously dense accusing me of making a mess (complete nonsense, i do the same thing as you leaving everything as good or better than it was) then he accused me of "stealing". i just walked away as he called the cops. but great finds, too bad on the rolling stair ladder. i actually got one of those sitting by a trash roll off years ago, put it in the company truck and gave it to our warehouse manager. but to last friday --- i've got a new plumber in the neighborhood, (commercial business) and the last 3 friday's have been great dumpster diving, lots of small brass, copper, and stainless steel being tossed, even getting tools like a small vice grips and a couple tape measures. but last friday it would appear someone from the neighborhood called the business on me, i was taking more time than usual because there were little copper pieces strewn everywhere, they were even nice enough to toss in a voyager canvas tool bag, i literally filled it with fittings. but about 5 minutes later in comes this huge white ford truck, you know the kind, lift kit, huge tires, 4 doors, lights everywhere, looked brand new... they sat there for a couple minutes with the headlights on me, i wave... they get out and i'm like, "just getting your scraps man." he goes, "you're alright" and they walk into the business.... a few minutes later he comes out with some thick black cables, looked like 6 ft pieces of bare bright copper and threw them in the back of the truck, we just looked at each other and said nothing, they left. 2 minutes later another guy in a company van pulls up to my truck, i had just finished and was standing next to my truck, not really noticing him he yells, "you dumping stuff in that bin?" i say, "no, taking stuff out". he goes, "they don't want anyone in their bins, or on their property, so..." i cut him off, i just talked to the guy in the big white truck and he said 'don't worry about it'... dude looks at me and says "okay". i say "thank you", and he drives off. i'm hoping they don't start locking the trash bin, i'm thinking i should call them and tell them i'm harmless... maybe something like, "just a local guy trying to make a buck and recycle some stuff, promise to leave everything *better than i find it.* hope you get paid by the word.

city of Calgary gloves >? i find it better just to take the boxes as is and recycle the carboard later, much easier to open while you have more space

I wonder what the hourly rate would be for separating those bullets.... Would have to be worth the effort, I would imagine
