Huge Top Water Striper Triple-Header! Crazy Top Water Action!

We find ourselves back in the saltwater, this time using top water plugs targeting striper and bluefish.
For attached your top water plug to your line, you can tie it direct, though I suggest using a simple duo-lock snap - not a snap swivel.
To fish these top waters lure, especially in top water, I like to run them a little more aggressively. When the lure hits the water I reel in about 3 to 4 cranks really fast, then pause, then 3 to 4 cranks really fast again. As you're reeling, the lure is making all these bubbles and splashes on the water, and with the pause it gives the perfect moment for stripers or blues to hammer it!
When you're using top water baits, it's very important to pause just for a second or two before setting the hook. I can't tell you how many times I've pulled the lure right from the fishes mouth pulling right away. Give the fish a moment to take the lure underwater.
I like the top water plugs that have the open rounded mouth to create that all that splash and sound, moreso than the 'walk the dog' style of top water baits which slide or zig-zag over the top of the water.

If you have never seen those green night crawlers, they are these night crawlers you can find in some bait shops, and their bedding is dyed green, so the worm becomes green after it lives in it and eats it. So my idea is see if green worms are better then regular worms in some kind of competition

im a huge fan of you guys. im just starting out. how do you knw when the blues or stripers are going to be on the top water? what weather, tide, depth, ect in other words how do you knw when to use top water baits?

Incoming and out going tide are best as the fish will be active, on the move, and top water is a good choice - depth varies but look for diving birds and also if you notice a fish jump or bait fish surfacing - those are all very good signs. Cloudy days are best and a bit of chop on sunny days also helps a lot - good luck out there

How do you get the keepers home? I live in your area and when I take long fishing trips I catch and release because I am not sure what to do with keepers. Hey my friend had me take the hook out of his fish but the hook was on the upper part of his mouth. It took me some time but got it out but there was blood. How would I remove fish more easily when there is barbs on the hook

It's best to push down on the hook/barb, then pull the hook out :) You need to create a bit of space in order to go around the barb....or you can pinch your barb tight and make the hook "barb-less"

We actually use that public launch in Mattapoisett sometimes (although the parking is not convenient)....you live in a beautiful area. This was close to you, fishing closer to Marion and we find that whole area between Mattapoisett and Marion to be great fishing and that is where we spend most of our time :) Good luck on the water
