Thy Kingdom Come! Interview with Pastor Sean Finnegan, the Gospel (Good News) of the Kingdom of God

Pastor Finnegan has written a book called, “Kingdom Journey: A Call to Recover the Central Theme of Scripture.” Pastor Finnegan describes how God’s central promise for humans is not a disembodied escape to heaven, but of resurrection to a full immortal life on a renewed earth. In other words, restoration not relocation.

It is God's purpose to be all in all, where the spiritual fully manifests in the natural world. A development where man as the crown of God's creation will grow to spiritual maturity in Christ. Having our sins forgiven it just a starting point of something much greater.

Jehovah's Witnesses have been teaching for over 100 years that the Kingdom is the central theme of the Bible. They also teach that people would be living on earth with Jesus ruling over them for 1,000 years.

The last 60 seconds, at the 42:07 mark, talked about Acts 3:19-20. Any chance anyone could elaborate on what the second part of Acts 3:19 means please? For example, is the refreshing in the kingdom to come... Or is it now.... And what exactly is refreshing?

The eschatological teaching being expounded here is called 'Premillenialism'. This view teaches there will be a literal 1000 year Kingdom of God on earth (Rev 20:1-3) established by Jesus Christ at his return along with the 'first' Resurrection (Rev 20:6). This view began to be popularised during the 1800s along with the rise of Christian Zionism and Jewish Zionism. This was not the view taught by the leading Reformers of the Protestant Reformation but rather they taught Ammillenialism. This view teaches we are already in the 1000 year millennial reign of Christ and when he returns he will bring in the perfected Kingdom Rev 21 and 22. Premillenialism teaches there will be resurrected people living with non resurrected people which is ridiculous and unbiblical. The premillenial view was begun by the Jesuits as a counter move against the Protestant Reformation. It was designed to destroy the view the pope was the antichrist and man of sin as most of the Reformers taught.

@@rosemerrynmcmillan1611 Hi Rosemerry, just a note. I'm not a "pre-millenialist". I don't think the Bible describes an intermediate or transition period limited to 1000 years after Jesus returns and by God's power raises the dead. I believe the 1000 years mentioned (only) in a few verses in the Book of Revelation are symbolic. There are more people like me who believe that God's plan for humankind is restoration - not relocation, and that restoration is not a literal millennium, but a literal physical life on earth.

Hi SimplyAwesome: I believe the Bible is saying that "times of refreshing" and "the period of restoration of all" haven't happened yet. Humanity still waits for the "second time" (Hebrews 9:28) that Jesus will come. Creation itself still waits to be set free from bondage to decay" (Rom. 8:21) and humans still wait for "the redemption of our bodies" Rom. 8:23. Creation is still in bondage to decay. The last months I've been literally watching the decay of a couple humans (my parents). We have not yet "put on immortality". Death has not yet been "swallowed up in victory". We have "only" the down payment, the evidence, in Jesus (1 Cor. 15:53-57). Hope these thoughts help.

Jesus can't be ruling in the church. The "church" doesn't have the Jesus of the bible, or the God of the bible.

Jesus is king in his true followers right now, a remnant. The church as a whole is not ready yet as long as selfrighteousness rules over them. But eventually God will restore everything as He purposed from the beginning.

@@billschlegel1 Yahweh is God. Jesus is the son of God. The gospel is the Kingdom of God on earth. Anythng different is not Christianity.
