I am currently in the McHonda with 5 points after 4 races, I know your struggle Ben. You could try what I am doing, which is something like this: On your R&D tree you have upgrades that reduce the resource points required for future upgrades. There are also upgrades that reduce the possibility of parts failing by 11% (I could be wrong there). I am embracing 2-3 seasons of crap and starting from the back row due to penalties. It costs 10000 resource points to upgrade those 2 trees for each branch of your tech tree (Engine, Chassis and Aero). The resource point upgrade reduces minor upgrade costs by 100, major by 150 and ultimate by 200 per level. So instead of 2000 resource points for a major engine upgrade, it will cost you 1000. Add on the 9 invitational events you should get during the career which then halves your upgrade time, I think by the 4th-5th season you could have your engine department maxed out. That is without taking into account the first driver bonus you get per race. You are in a McLaren, you arent going to have a hope of winning races outright without some luck in the first few seasons. I don't know how entertaining that would be for both yourself and the rest of the viewers, but that is the way I am doing it.

You can buy upgrades that reduce the chance of upgrade failure by 7.5% each. Im at honda and purchased two of those and so far both my upgrades have been successful

Spend resource points in quality control first.. I buy two or three squares before I buy an upgrade, It usually helps. The other tiny squares above quality control make upgrades cheaper. Just a heads up! Good luck lol and keep up the grind!!

I'm with renault and Dev parts so far have been reliable. My tip to you for mclaren would be go for all the upgrades that improve reliability of r+d parts. Also go for the upgrades that make r+d parts cheaper. As you're at the bottom it doesn't make a difference whether you put proper upgrades on yet. For me doing renault, I'm in the midfield battle so have to do performance upgrades to keep up

use your number 1 engine for Practice 1&2. Once Practice 3 comes along, use your fresh number 2 engine and components and focus on your qualifying trim (Change these out before P3 in the menu screen) and keep that for the race. should give you a small fighting chance.

I know this is a year old but I started with durability because everything will out in 2 races except for the electronics and energy store and I went with Haas. Haas ICE went out in 2-3 races so I upgraded wear reduction to stage 3. I enjoy your videos. I compare our careers side by side👊. Can’t wait for 2018.

It seems like you're really aggressive on the downshifts.. Changing down basically as soon as you brake? The RPM goes to 13,000 haha. Maybe that's causing wear?

I had to change my driving style cause i was burning up engine components and was on my 3rd gearbox for the 5th race. As far as losing gears what i noticed - rapid downshifting damages transmission vastly and i lost a gear (7th gear) at 60%.

I've experienced gearbox issues at around 50% before too. It happened in my race around Bahrain when I was shifting into 6th gear and it seemed to shift into 5/7 repeatedly. I don't recommend going above 60% at all...

I chose mclaren too. I'm spending resource points maxing out the quality one so they have less chance of failing 1st. They wont be no progress the 1st season, but after finishing 3 invertational events you wait half the time for minor upgrades and they have less chance of failing, so hoping season 2 it'll be upgrade after upgrade

General Wear/ Durability. What I see is that what dooms you in races-aside from shitty luck-is, not lack of pace but reliability issues. Also, it IS Mclaren. They are going to be shit, no matter how hard you try, unless you put it on beginner. You can make it good eventually, but in this game, it's going to take longer.

I think you spend less points in yhe end if you directly upgrade the parts instead of buying the discounts. You also pay less if you don't care about the quality control and just fix the parts for like 400 points whenever they fail. Upgrade costs more than 400 and don't guarantee anything.

It's blind luck with the R&D parts. I started with the bananamobile and I upgraded the chassis and durability and got both in Bahrain. I also only had the first things upgraded on the cost and percentage on chassis as well.

I've put more effort into durability department thats what i think you should do upgrade durability and you get less wear on the engine/ gearbox it actually helps alot because.... you can run in higher fuel mix for alot longer and not have to worry about the wear on the engine, since making upgrades in durability ive been able to stretch my engine and gearbox alot more in high fuel modes and shifting, start of the season i had to keep changing parts alot now ive upgraded hardly have to change parts every few races, and also when you get to monza it will destroy your engine and gearbox if you dont upgrade durability, ive focus on durability more then engine for the first season 100% best way to do it. Ps it also saves you from grid penalties too. I mean not like it matters in that mclaren honda haha😂😂😂😂
