Technically route 2 is the oldest route in Singapore originating from tram route 2 back when the electric trams were first built in Singapore in 1905. Route 2 is the only route to have survived conversion from tram to trolleybuses, then to diesel bus and then extended to Changi Village. And yes you heard that right, Singapore used to have trams, some even double deck like HK, but they got all replaced by trolleybuses in 1927.

During the years of Green Bus Company, the route was numbered Svc 1, where SJE svc 1 also plied a near-identical route, and this was common for route numbers and routes to be similar and shared back before 1971.

I think 170 is also called the vintage bus models. Cause when most of the models were withdrawn in the past but this bus models for 170 is still running. Such as volvo b57 b10m albion viking evk55 and mercedes of1417 scania k230ub then now citaro etc. It took quite a while before each one got deregistered and scrapped.

Will 170 experience a significant route amendment? As much as a certain someone wants to take a bone saw to 170 due to the route running parallel to the DTL2, the short answer is simply "no". Any changes will have to be consulted with APAD, as well as receive their approval, and APAD will raise a huge stink if LTA chooses to amend 170 by itself. Using a (poor) analogy, 170 is like the child between two divorced parents who both have shared custody, so anything involving the child will need the approval of both parents despite the physical and emotional distance. As for operator, I guess only SMRTB will not make APAD grumble if SBST does indeed lose the Ulu Pandan tender. If either TTS or GAS gets the tender, either company will have to register with APAD, which involves the dreaded paperwork, alongside the usual procedures to get any buses approved for operations in Malaysia. In short, more work for APAD.

Every other day i get recommended something on singapore’s public transport. Sometimes im so amused that the country we live in is so boring and uninspiring that public transportation becomes a topic of conversation. Sad really

No route amendment. Bukit Merah Region (Ulu Pandan Package) will retain with SBST. No other bus operator can operate Cross Border Service like SBST. Being biased me...
