Over the weekend, one of the major networks aired a story about parents who where renting or outright buying luxury RV's. The were doing this to educate their children through travel while the schools were closed. They would take the kids on 3-4000 mile road trips and see every scientific/historical landmark they could find. A higher end RV can cost $250,000. Meanwhile, kids in Appalachia who don't have internet access are falling further and further behind in their educations. A neighbor of mine went on line offering to sell all her Christmas decoration so she could buy food for her four kids. To air a segment on wealthy kids and their parents RVing it across America is a slap in the face to every parent who's working 2-3 jobs just to stay ahead of eviction. It's like eating a gigantic banquet in front of a starving family and watching them drool. Or -- at best -- saying "Here's a pea that fell off my plate: divide it up amongst yourselves. And don't say I never gave you anything."

The trouble with some, not all, “Good Causes” is how that money gets used. Some might argue it does the artist more good to buy their art. But I do agree that there are many people in need especially now, and that the super wealthy did not get there “on their own”. There were wages workers making their wealth possible, and all too often, not getting paid a livable wage to do so. I found it enlightening to learn that early labor unions demanded a “saving wage”, not just a lining wage, because they understood the importance of being able to have enough money to be able to save for a rainy day. Perhaps we need to rethink our rules around money and wages and insist on a profit sharing model that does not allow CEO’s to make thousands more per hour / in salary than the other workers in a company. If poor people’s programs can have “income limits” then maybe corporations should also have fairer limits? Of course, it needs to be a worldwide effort to work. Otherwise corporate executives can just jump ship and move to another country. This is why we have to get over our “nationalism” and start focusing on make world wide changes and supporting higher wages and higher environmental standards the world over.
