I agree. I was born in 1957. When I went to the store as a child it was an adventure. Younger generations seem to be in a constant hurry while life flies right by them. I love thunderstorms. I can sit in the yard and enjoy the gentle breezes, watching clouds float by and the smell of the fresh air. That is entertaining for myself.

Born in the 80s, I remember the days of hanging out at the mall and being inside "Toys R Us" it was a simpler time, I do like that shopping online is easier, but sometimes I miss the "Brick and Mortar" stores..reminds me of that show on Viceland "Abandoned" Ghost mall episode...

I was also born in 1957 and live in California where we could use some storms to put out all the fires going on now but instead October is starting with a heat wave. Anyway I just purchased my first smartwatch on Amazon that also keeps track of my oxygen levels(a necessary item in theses COVID times) , heart rate, calories, and a host of other things.

I'm an older woman, I used to love going shopping. However unfortunately I had several unhappy interactions with other people. When I got shoved into racks by two woman who were fighting over an item, I decided online shopping was safer than dealing in public situations. Like I said I'm 65 and have a disability, I need to feel safe more than I need to interact with people. Stay healthy happy and safe. Blessed be

Yes, there are others. Unfortunately, the ones with influence are the ones profiting from this and have no vested interest to change. Employment does change.. ferry boat operators lost their jobs when bridges and tunnels started to be built. Buggy whip manufacturers went under with the advent of cars. In the past, people adjusted and learned new skills. Now, they don’t understand why they have to do that. Even if they were willing, chances are that job is now in India/China/Southeast Asia so it’s not all on them.

I wonder about this. I also wonder if this is just a “western” thing. I want to believe that in other parts of the world, outside the USA and outside of capitalism, that there are cultures rooted in our values of old and that they still live by a code of ethics or morales that isn’t so self centered that everything else gets lost.

You already stated the answer: it IS NOT what most people prefer. You went to the physical store but the STORE didn't have the merchandise in stock and THAT is why you ended up ordering it online from Amazon. You didn't want to order online, likewise, MOST of us don't want retail stores to fail because we know human beings do still work there. It's nice to go out and physically go somewhere, including to shop. We detest being manipulated into spending money online and dealing with navigating a faceless website to find what MIGHT be what we need, but we won't know for sure until it arrives. Wrong item delivered or selected by the customer and then delivered? Now deal with the online returns and re-ordering and then more waiting for the thing we could've found and purchased in person much easier and even faster in the end if errors or delays occur. This video makes excellent points, though it seems to preach to the choir at times as WE already get it! The greedy businesses that run on skeleton crews and neglect the physical store's stock to up the likelihood of customers choosing to skip the trip to their store next time and just order online instead could learn something from watching this. Oh, wait...those types don't generally care about other people! They only care about money, even when it's in spite of having more than enough to last them another 5 lifetimes, and they're probably the same ones who would try to abolish physical cash for other people, were it up to them. 🤐 Thankfully, it ain't all up to them, so bring on the 2020 Bat Quarters! 🦇

I admit that for the last few years, I have done most of my Christmas shopping on-line. In fact, this year, I've done ALL of it, on-line ALREADY, as of this evening! First, shopping for those that you love and KNOW, is easy! What tick's ME off (so to speak ) is to get a generic gift that a loved one gives you, AND another "loved one" gets the SAME gift too! So get to know a person! Anyway, On-line shopping DOES take away SOME personal interactions between the seller an the buyer. Years ago, I used to like those interactions; those smiles and such. Vic, you hit the nail on the head, regarding how on-line shopping can be ANY GOOD for the retailers, and those that work there! For NOW, there still is a customer base (me too, when out, and looking at local stores for ideas and added gifts that might make someone happier by receiving it. I shopped mostly in stores, years ago, as I was not internet savvy, so to speak. Now, I shop more on line, for gifts I want to give to others, and things I would like to have myself that local stores don't have in their stores, but offer it on line! On-line shopping offers more of a category, and can personalize some gifts, that most local stores just can't do. Vic, yeah, I see our potential future. Simplified, alone behind a keyboard. it's already going in that direction, in some ways. WE ALL need to take a step back! The saying, "it is, what it is," I DO NOT LIKE THAT SAYING! It's a giving up statement. It's also a statement that says whatever is happening, is the norm or that nothing will change, or the TRUTH is not worth finding!

Well said! Coming from someone who has been in “brick & mortar” retail for over 30 years. Retail isn’t what it used to be. To your comment about stores not having what you need and having to go online. Retailer aren’t ordering/stocking inventory like years past. Its just one way to cut costs. Not having to pay interest on carried inventory within the stores. Just one way to combat the online retail giants. Wish someone had the answers.

Its a different type of supply and demand, different way of shopping, i remember and still go to the store to check out the product, I agree with you about the style of shopping. I can't stand shopping on line, you can never get the right product or if the product us any good.

Thanks Vic for sharing your thoughts with us. I find merit in your comments in every video I've ever seen. Its encouraging to me to know a person on the total opposite side of the country with probably a very different life experience from mine shares so many of my same observations, opinions, and values. It gives me some measure of hope and comfort in these totally upside down times. And a POX on anyone who gives you any guff! XXOO

No truer words were ever spoken Vic. I think the big box stores started the decline. They killed mom & pop stores then it just spiraled out of control after that. I was born in 1958, I remember growing up in my small town we loved going "downtown" to shop. We had 2 shoe stores, a shoe repair shop, 3 clothing stores, grocery stores, 2 movie theaters, an Islay's, etc all located on the 'main street' of town. Now our 'main streets' are empty. On-line shopping is the new 'main street'. AND everything is built to break down in 5 years so you have to spend more money to buy a new whatever... What a waste. We have no more pride in anything built anymore. ☹️

Although I agree, it also depends on people shopping if a lot of retail jobs disappear. For instance, I always prefer buying groceries in person and when I go to make the big shopping at the beginning of the month I always go to a cashier lane instead of the self checkout. I only use those for when I'm just buying a handful of items. Also I try to use store pickup for a lot of stuff since that at least guarantees an employee will have to pick the items and interact with me when I arrive in store.

I too have been asking this question Vic. I'm from the old school. It's just like buying shoes you have to try them on to see if they fit and they're comfortable. I still refuse to this day to buy anything online. if I can't touch it if I can't try it on if I can't see how it works then forget it I don't need it!
