In this video, I do a pleated fold, but dye the DNA design a little differently. I folded straight up, but dyed it on an angle... more of an angle would have given me more of a V shape.

Love all your videos, definitely helps as an inspiration to keep trying in my tie dye journey, if you dont mind me asking what kind of string do you use? also where should I look for it, as im trying to get a more tighter tie ,sometimes rubberbands don't do the job!

Thank you, I am glad to be of help to you. I use Kite string an buy it from Ace Hardware ... I have also used Embroidery String (it is not as strong as kite string, but works in a pinch) and I have used dental floss.... so I just find whatever works to tie things up

Thank you and you are welcome... I love to help other have success. Batching is when I leave a tee to sit after I have dyed it for the dyes to set up. I use Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes. I buy most of mine from Dharma Trading Co. www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html I have also purchased the same kind of dyes from Custom Colours in NC and Grateful Dye in CO. thank you and yes, I prefer to tie my tees when they are slightly damp... easier to fold and to dye .... after the soak in the soda ash, I squeeze out the excess and then I use the spin cycle on my washer to spin out more of the soda ash so the tee is barely damp.... you may need to set the cycle to half way as some washer will spray water at the beginning of the spin cycle 😉✌🏻

I've been watching your videos for over an year now, but took me this long to get reactive dyes and they are amazing. It's much more expensive than fabric paint (specially in Brazil cause they are all imported), but the results are totally worth it. Much brighter colors. Thank you again, sir!

First id like to say thank you for what you do!! Ive learned soooo much from watching your videos!! Youre great at explaining things throughly and incredibly talented!! I just wanted to ask after watching several videos the past few weeks ive heard you talk alot about using soda ash to not have dye faded... what if youre wanting a more faded or worn kind of look? What the best way to go about that? Thanks!!

Awesome! Thank you! ... and yes the soda ash is what activate these Fiber Reactive Procion dyes I use..... so if you want a faded worn look to a tee there are a few ways to go : you can dilute the dyes way down and you will get lighter colors and if you dilute enough, then you will get pastels ... I have not played with it enough to be exact, but around 1/8 to 1/4 of a teaspoon for 8 oz of water will get you into the pastel range .... if you already have some dye mixed up, you can add a little bit to another bottle and then fill with plain water I have also soaked in soda ash like normal, tie and dye it and then instead of batching it, I let it sit for just a couple minutes and then go right to washing it ... very little of the dye has had a chance to bond, so most of the dye washes out and you get the faded look... but this way uses more dye than diluting it does and one other way people achieve the faded look is to dye a tee that is a 50/50 cotton/poly blend as the poly does not take these kind of dyes so you end up with a faded tee ... and more poly means even lighter colors ... have fun exploring

Does the folding matter? Will I get the same effect if I fold from the center instead?

do you mean where you hold your hands?? meaning i folded holding the outside edges?? and you want to fold form the center of the tee?? no this does not matter, however is more comfortable for you is what matters and ten just keeping the folds straight if you want this type design. But really this is about showing how to do the basic fold and then you can do many different things with it

I got my fine tipped ones off amazon. Just typed in fine tipped bottles or something. He does have a link on one of his videos to the ones he uses. I believe those are 4 oz ones. Hope that helped

Hello @Flavia Eckholm ... I bought the 4 oz bottle with fine tips from Amazon.... smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DB6K3XZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they certainly help to apply smaller amounts of dye to your tees .... and I pour mine through a fine mesh filter to get out any of the tiny particles that may clog the bottle

He i believe said he gets procion dyes from grateful dyes, something colors and darma or something. Just trying to help lol im new to using the procion after using kits before.

Hello (: Is it possible to do a DNA design with just two colors? Such as Pink & Blue (on white shirt) or even just one (black on a white shirt) Thank you for your awesome videos!

yes it is .... with two colors I alternate them on the top ..... pink blue pink blue and then on the bottom, I switch and go blue pink blue pink if I am doing just one color, then I color every other space on the top and then flip and color every other space, but make sure you moved over one space otherwise you will end up with solid lines if you dye the same space top and bottom ... I hope that made sense

yes, but I would fold each leg separately as jeans are too thick to fold them together and get decent saturation ... I have been meaning to do some pants on a video, so I will add them to my list
