Tie-dye pattern : Peace Sign Tapestry (Ice)

Today I am demonstrating how to tie-dye a Peace Sign tapestry using the ice dye method. This is a step by step tie-dye tutorial video where we cover the entire process starting with the folding and drawing of our peace sign outline pattern on the tapestry. Then we tie up the tapestry using kite string, apply our procion dye to the tapestry, and add ice right on top of the procion dye. To finish up we let it sit for 24 hours, give it a good rinse, and jump right on into the reveal of our new peace sign tie-dye tapestry. I hope you enjoy and as always...Happy Tie Dyeing!
***Before working with procion dyes or any kind of fiber reactive dye please make sure to pay special attention to all labels including directions, warnings, and first aid instructions***. I highly recommend gloves, eye protection, and a respirator or dust mask per these instructions.

I think the prices are fair. With the supply, time and unique patterns. People spend that much on a mass print t-shirt all the time. Got to save up a bit but definitely would love a tapestry/wall art or at least a shirt.

Have you ever thought about doing band logos spirals? Think "the heartagram" or Type O Negative's o-negative logo. I think both would render some pretty awesome results - the o negative especially because that shade of green is super vibrant.

what helps you determine if you will do the pre-mixed dyes vs the ice method?

It depends on the look I’m going for. You can control where your dyes go better with liquid dye but it looks a little more one dimensional. With ice dye, you can’t control it as much but the ice creates a marbling effect giving multi dimensions ☺️❤️

So cool! I've seen some ice dyes where they put the ice cubes on and then the dye powder on top of the ice. Is it just a matter of preference which you put first?

Thank you so much! I actually prefer the dye powder down first then the ice on top because I feel it gives you more control over where the dye is going to sink down through the material. When the ice melts it moves and when the dye is on top the dye with it. It’s not a huge difference but it’s slight enough to make me feel like I’m in more control doing that it that way. I've been loving your work. I've only just begun doing tie dye myself. I'm good, but not great. People are loving my shirts and putting in requests. But I still have so much more to learn, like for instance I learned what powder to not get. There's a design I want to do but I can't seem to get it right. I've been trying to do a legit looking campfire tye dye shirt with the flames and logs. The one came out looking like a leaf, the other got phrased as "a space ship" from my cousin. That one came from a template I'd made myself. Could you help me figure out how to do that? It would also make for a good video.

That’s a great idea! The best way I can think of to do that is to paint with thick water dye 😊 if I don’t get to that video for a while I have a video called Riahs Tip and Tricks that shows you how to make thick dye for painting. Basically, it will be thick dye that you can literally paint with. Not all of them but most of what I do is all my own. The peace sign has been around for a long time in Tie dye though so I can’t take credit for inventing this one😊☮️
