I did this w bleach on a black shirt and it came out dope as shit! I just skipped the last step of folding it like a “u”. It looks dooooope and the top of the sleeves had cool chevron stripes! Thanks bro!

Love this pattern! Almost looks like the Doppler effect. Would something like this be possible to do on a hoody? I have a hoody that i got tattoo ink on which i wanna try and save by tie dying just never tried tie dying anything other than a tshirt.

You could try. The problem with hoodies is the thickness of the material and pulling the sinew tight can be very difficult.

From experience: If you place black and pink next to each other at the same time, you'll end up with poopy brown...

I use an artificial, waxed, flat sinew from Amazon that's available in 300yd spools.

Does it matter what water temp to add to the dye and also when you're putting the shirt in the washing machine? Do you do Hot for the dye mix and a cold washing temp? Does it matter?

I use de-ionized water for mixing the powdered dye into a liquid. Distilled or filtered water would be fine as well. The goal is to just not use tap water since you'll introduce chlorine/chloramine into the liquid dye which will result in less intense colors. Since I use de-ionized, it's room temperature. During the sink rinse, I start with cold water to remove all the extra dye and remaining soda ash from the fabric. After that's been done, I switch to hot water to help fully set the bonded dye into the fabric. After that, I wash it in the washing machine with the temp set at medium.

I fold and dye almost everything with the material lightly damp. I pull the material from a vat of soda ash solution and spin it out in the washing machine and either work immediately with it or double bag it to use within a couple of days.

What is soda ash ?

It's sodium carbonate. Note: This is *not* the same as sodium bicarbonate. It's readily available in the detergent aisle of almost every grocery store and can be found in 30-50 pound buckets at pool supply stores. For the smaller, grocery store, size.
