Scholes wasn't even the best midfielder at United. Keane was better than him by a decent margin.

@@jackfoulkes3075 The only mythology here is this idea that Gerrard could do what Scholes did best with anywhere close to the consistency. Barring possibly Pirlo, who never played in this league, I've never seen a player able to make the perfect pass with such regularity. It was unthinkable how often his pass not only sliced open the opponent, but more how it was almost always right on the money in terms of perfect weight, perfect position for maximum advantage and how he didn't need too much space to pull it off. Decision making was also top. In a technical sense, he was the very best this league has seen in terms of passing the football. It's a massive exaggeration to suggest Gerrard had anywhere near the same consistent level of vision or the execution in his passing, he had a killer cross but that's a very different skillset. Gerrard had his own qualities that Scholes didn't have, of course, but let's not pretend Gerrard came anywhere close to Paul Scholes' best attributes. As for the Zidane comments, there's no shortage of top players paying homage to Paul Scholes either. I remember listening to John Terry being able to sit there and openly saying that Scholesy could do things that he'd never seen other players do. Ronaldinho, Rooney, Zidane himself, Henry, Xavi, etc. all have said things along the same lines. He was among the most technically gifted footballers ever to play in this league, if not the most.

I know he isn't a nice fella, but John Terry absolutely belongs in a PL XI. Aged better than Ferdinand or Vidic, had a post peak renaissance in 2014/15 with Chelsea.

Absolutely no surprise how few players retired/left pre-2000 in these teams. Cantona wasn't just the only outfield player in one of the teams, but he's the only one that even got brought up as part of a conversation. Although I'm delighted he was used. Here's one for you - Potentially the most consistent full-backs in the league for years who could play on both sides, and a solid set-piece specialist. Denis Irwin. I will say I respect the Gerard/Bale choices at R/L back.

I had another dream regarding the adventures with Tifo. Alex came to our pub and gave a lecture on stoicism and what it means to be a Southampton supporter. I went to take a piss and ended up seeing Tom Worville again, he was frightened as no one should see him beyond the confines of the scatter gram.
