I have been fishing regularly for about a decade now. I've used mainly spin-casting gear but have always been intrigued by fly fishing. It seems like such an art. Needless to say, I received my first fly outfit, and have been practicing casting in my yard. I purchased an instructional dvd on fly casting, but nothing compares to these videos. Thank you.

I learned more in that 10 min than I have in 3 weeks. U showed me my mistakes like you were watching me make them. Also nobody has shown me the line behind them so I never knew what I was looking for, the long far away view was most helpful. you have a knack for teaching GREAT JOB.

Your videos are well aimed. Many experts are so disconnected with a newbie's thoughts that we dont understand what theyre talking about until later. I can understand what youre saying right now. My heart-felt thanks.

Recommended by a friend before starting out as opposed to learning from guys with bad habits. Very clearly demonstrated in stages. Can't wait to add fly casting to my salt water arsenal.

This video has helped me more than any other. Sometimes I find myself forcing the line out to the river (yes I'm a newbie, but fishing the big waters). I know when I have a god cast and a bad one.

I finally gained some ground in casting today, and its because I remembered how this video emphasized the false cast. I was working on form, and trying not to wear my arm out, but I was still only able to cast 15 feet or so, and I got frustrated. When I remembered I was supposed to practice false casting, that was when I got a feel for timing. I learned more in 5 minutes than I had since I began.

Wow just seeing this out of the box kzbin.infoUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

That is going to depend on what you are fishing for. A 5 or 6 wt. is the rod we sell more of in the shop because it is perfect for trout, panfish and light bass fishing. It is also a great rod to teach casting with because it is light and not exhausting to cast. The 7 or 8 wt rod is also important, because it is used for Smallmouth, Largemouth, Steelhead, Salmon, Pike, Bonefish, etc. Unfortunately you can get 1 rod that will do all things. Tight Lines, Tim

If you are making a snapping sound when you are casting it is a simple fix. Chances are you are not allowing your loop on the back cast or the front cast to open up. You are pulling the loop out to quickly. The fix is to wait an extra second on both the back and front cast. You may be rushing a bit. Good luck Tim

Great video! I just got back from my first practice session at a park. I had my share of tangles and probably looked pretty sloppy/funny a lot of the time, but after an hour or so it started to come together a little bit. Can't wait to get back out there and hopefully be somewhat ready for my Mammoth trip in a month!

Are you looking for a shooting line or standard 6 wt line? If you are looking for a great 6wt line, I would recommend the RIO Gold. This is the shops favorite line. If the rod is super fast the RIO Grand will help load the faster action rods better. Good Luck Tim Tim

@UnitedPonys this isnt tightlines. the false cast is used to get momentum in your cast to cast far enough to where you want or u can do it to target exactly where you want to land your fly

Tim, When trying to shoot line at the end of the front cast, do you start to let the line go when the loop is all out, or can you start to let the line out before then. I'm having trouble with the line shooting out at any distance. Love the videos and they have helped greatly. Tim H.

Unfortunately the techniques are different. A true two-handed rod is designed to actually spey cast or skagit cast with and not ideally suited for overhand casting. Hope that helps.

whats your opinion on combo spin fly rods? my dad gave me his now that he's no-longer fly fishing and i have a great interest in it i really enjoy the learning process of fly fishing and i think i have it down pretty good (well good enough to cast properly) and now i wonder how itll compare to a full fly rod, ive used this rod hundreds of times for spincasting and its one of my favorites and now i can learn fly fishing to! very exciting (sorry for the long message, bit side tracked

Did you just rip off the leader in the tree or break the fly line itself off? If it is just the leader or tippet portion, I would just replace the entire leader. Tim

In each of you examples you are actually adding a haul. To do this you must, I mean must, address the timing of when you add the haul. Sorry to say your doing something that is instinctive for you but definitely not instinctive for a novice.
