I was an OG fan of Jeffree’s back in the late 2000s and up until 2013. Started coming back around to him in 2015, but then he started that drama with Rocky (got mad at him for the broken highlighter clickbait which he didn’t realize was clickbait lmao) and Jackie Aina and it just became rapidly clear to me then and there he hadn’t changed. The stuff with Trisha and Tati shit was all completely unsurprising to me. I’m sure we’ll all be dead before Jeffree ever reflects on any of his behavior because there’s absolutely zero accountability with him.

i really hate this new 'trend' of gay people becoming so comfortable with homophobic slurs that they just start using them to insult people. for context, i'm queer and i reclaim that word to describe myself - but i would never call someone that to insult them, because i don't see queerness as an insult. there's obviously an argument to be made about using slurs in a reclamatory context. however, i've seen so many gay people recently calling people homophobic slurs when they're genuinely upset at those people, and i don't get it. reclaiming slurs means taking the bite out of them. they called us queer as an insult, so we took that word and started using it as a neutral descriptor. but it seems that some gay people are getting so comfortable reclaiming slurs that they've 360'd right back to using these words as homophobes would use them. how do they not see that that's what they're doing?
@ZijnShayatanica9 ай бұрын
I don't understand using it as an insult. As a gay trans man, I may use a cheeky slur to describe my outfit or makeup. But it's a COMPLIMENT for me - I have no shame in looking visibly queer or visibly trans. And I certainly wouldn't use that language in the direction of someone else to describe them, nvm INSULT THEM... It's fucked up to see the community turn against itself so blatantly.

Hi, im from the future. This made me think of something that happened a couple of weeks ago. In one of my college classes we were discussing Oscar Wilde and one of my classmates (who is a transwoman) went on a rant about how "Oscar Wilde was a f*." It was confusing and we just moved on because we didn't know what the purpose of the slur even was. He was rumored to be gay, but like...why would you say it that way? Why use that rhetoric? Wtf is even happening? I'm also a fan of linguistic reclamation, but I also think it's strange and a little contradictory to then use the word as an insult when you are a part of the group that the word originially insulted. I feel like its a way to deflect criticisim. Like it can't be an insult if the person saying it is a part of the oppressed group, when that just isnt true.
@LucaGlitchy6 ай бұрын
No fr, I've reclaimed it with my friends and we use it in a silly way (like we call each other f*gs but we've also been friends for years and we all can reclaim it) but I'd never use it as an insult because it kind of ruins the point since it just becomes hateful again and then it lets bigots feel free to use it in a vile way

It blows my mind that Jeffree Star still exists this far removed from Myspace. Similarly controversial Myspace personality Tila Tequila was run out of mainstream popularity quickly when she got heavy into her antisemitism and conspiracy theories. Heck, even seemingly untouchable Perez Hilton suffered pretty intense backlash when he called Will.I.Am a homophobic slur in public, yet Jeffree is able to jump from platform to platform and get a fresh start each time (usually with a younger audience). As for the "conspiracy" he shared about Michelle Obama? Just remember that Joan Rivers said the same thing about her shortly before she passed, and while there was a bit of backlash, it's hardly ever brought up when people talk about Joan's legacy. Transphobic comments about cis black women have pretty much been normalized for a long time, so I sadly know better than to assume any real consequences will come of this.

The Michelle Obama one shocked me ngl. To throw out this blatent lie about a black woman, mind you, an almost entire white audience (bc i can only imagine self-hating poc would want to watch him, been there yall its not too late to save yourselves) almost as a funny joke proves to me that he does view black people, specifically black women, as a joke. It's actually so saddening to see this type of behavior as a black woman myself being perpetuated by one of the biggest beauty influencers of his time (circa 2016) to an extremely young audience who will probably carry this type of behavior themselves into their own lives.
