THIS taught us extra extra about being kind, courteous, tipping well...to vol at an animal shelter etc. However, we already were good kids before our very first jobs, and our parents never WH permitted it. Coincidentally, both Dads taught us about tipping, reminding us about tipping well (this is New York City and Long Island, where tipping was always 15% for BAD service), "That extra $X means a lot more to our server than it does to us".

I have told my son who is about to graduate highschool and I will tell everyone else NEVER do dinner or movies on a first date always coffee or something affordable so if it does not work out you will have not over extended yourself financially. Met my other half 10 years ago on a dating site! He had a kidney transplant the year before we met, which unfortunately failed two years later. He’s now in complete renal failure and on dialysis for 4 hours three times a week, and in constant pain. We are just appreciative of the time we have had together, as he can’t get another transplant and he’s living on borrowed time. It’s sad we won’t grow old together, but we try and make every day count.

I worked with messed up teens years ago in a residential setting. Live in job and a weekly outing. One kid had a penchant for shoving things up his arse in his sleep, kinda like sleep-walking but buggery-with-implements. Sometimes he would wake up and the entire bed and sheets were covered in ka ka. It was really something! On this one memorable occasion he had borrowed another kid's hair brush. The lender never put 2 and 2 together. Town wasn't until the next morning, but he was feeling generous and gave him the brush. We were all in the van heading out on a day trip, the kid had his reclaimed brush in his hand, and was brushing his hair. Then as he was sitting there he started fiddling as some kids do, and picking dirt off the brush handle, scraping it out of the handle grooves. It was a light bulb moment. He dug some of the grunge out of a ridge and sniffed his finger. Well you never saw panic like you did with me driving, and a van load of teens dodging and ducking to avoid the fragments that the kid started flicking around at them. Those fragments--well it was NOT plasticine. Nope. Soon the whole vehicle smelled like poo. The handle had dried faecal residue in the ridges along the handle. One of the best stories I have of that job. 100% TRUTH.
