My brother is recently retired police officer. The way he explained it is that they look for the license plate number and the vin and input it into their computer to see who or what owns it. If it’s a Waymo car it’s supposed to trace back to an owner. They’re supposed to contact the owner of the vehicle and inform them that the car was involved in an accident since the computers don’t always do that. The problem with that though is that one Waymo car can be traced to multiple owners. Some people will purchase multiple Teslas, for example, and rent them out for this very thing. Those cars are traced to the actual owner of the cars and the owner of the app. It’s annoying and it pisses cops off.
@cupcakes73083 күн бұрын
@mcrchickenluvr The company should be held responsible. That's a death machine on the road, and they need to be held accountable for their creation. We've been yelled at by a few frustrated workers, and other employees had to open the app, location, and type in what we were looking for in order to help us. Also, the aisles aren't in alphabetical order. So it's hard to find the aisle you're looking for. The store apps map won't guide you step by step unless you need it, but it's helpful.

Archaeologist here. Aside from the VR headsets at the Colosseum possibly being related to COVID restrictions, it's becoming more and more popular to include VR/3D reconstructions on archaeological sites, either on a touchscreen, in a movie, etc. Archaeologists put hard work into this. For Rome specifically, I know that in the Baths of Diocletian you could/can get a VR headset to walk around and see the Baths as they once were (it's very impressive). I'm assuming, though of course I can't say for sure, that the VR headsets show reconstruction(s) of what the Colloseum used to look like. Though, I think that tourists should also still look at what the colloseum looks like now, as that part of discovering the layers of history.
@SamRK-10003 күн бұрын
The Louvre actually has Nintendo 3DS to do part of their self-guided tour. If the VR was to say “and make sure to go this way when you’re walking through” or did a quick little history lesson or debriefing attendees “please don’t touch walls as the oils in our hands can stain the stone; please keep your voice down for other people who are actively studying the Colosseum” then I would get it. But it does seem REALLY dystopian to have people in VR headsets sitting only a couple feet away from the actual colosseum. 😅
@SamRK-1000Күн бұрын
And just to clarify, I don’t have a problem with VR, AR, or assistive technology for tourism. It’s a great way to debrief customers and tourists on how to be respectful, enjoy their time, and get the most out of their trip while following rules. However, if we’re going the direction of replacing real-life experiences with digital tours and calling it “good enough” then that is a concern. After reading some other comments clarifying that clip from the Colosseum, that clip was likely from 2020 COVID times, so I don’t think they’re doing that currently. And I wanted to clarifying, assistive technology for tourism would be great! (That way we don’t have another Jake Paul lets loose in Japan, films a dead body, leaves an octopus tentacle on the trunk of a taxi, and gets kicked out of a sacred temple for being a fricking prick. If someone was there to debrief him “hey please don’t yell or film in the temple, it’s a sacred area for Buddhists and even non-religious Japanese as it’s part of their culture” maybe he would’ve thought twice. But he still would’ve been disrespectful asf!!!)

@@jaylambert599There’s a general consensus about “people these days” being more aggressive, which I do agree with. The biggest cause of death in teenagers behind cancer and suicide is motor vehicles fatalities, something you have to deal with in most car dependent countries with “stroads”, most common in America with those 8 land wide streets with huge parking lots and no trees or sidewalks, neither functioning as a street or a road. This terrible infrastructure makes impossible to walk places, making you drive, and thus add one more car to the problem. And because teenagers can’t walk places we gave them cars to get around, and thus and adding more cars to the issues. I could go on a lot more about bad infrastructure but if you want to learn more watch the KZbinr “Not Just Bikes” During the… I’d like to around early 2000’s(?) there was a LOT of fear about kidnapping after it started spiking in numbers. Some say this spike was because of some illegal immigrants being big name human traffickers, others saying because of a bad criminal justice system (for example, giving pedophiles 10 years in prison but people who sell weed 20 years for petty drug distribution, or even just not convicting some kid creeps because they haven’t acted which in all reality is morally wrong but understandable because we don’t need the government who is and isn’t a creep), and some other supposed reasons like a mental health crisis, etc. This gave birth to helicopter parenting, having a tracking app on your kids phone, preparing them for the worst, doomsday scenarios, safe words, going with them everywhere. There’s a lot more to speak of but I’m lazy and don’t want to type more. There’s plenty of videos and articles talking about it. I live literally 3 minutes away from my friend on foot. 3 MINUTES!! But because it crosses a big 6 lane street with a train crossing at a big intersection noooooo, I can’t visit my friend that lives fucking 3 minutes away from me.

Customers constantly ask us where find items, even if said items are in their field of view. Some customers don't want to look themselves and would rather want us to grab the item for them even if they were perfectly capable of doing it on their own. Not only is this a waste of time, but it means that less employees are available to check out customers, blow up balloons, assist customers at self-checkout, and help out customers that actually need help. This is especially becomes an issue when the store is really busy.
@g0rechxres3 күн бұрын

And while I love being able to show off my impressive ability to tell someone exactly where something is if we have it.... Some days I actually do have things to get done! And getting interrupted by not only customers but also other coworkers who come to me to find things, it can slow me down!

Oh you should try going to some of the other second hand hobby/collectible stores. A HEAVILY yellowed Mass Production Evangelion figure that was NOT the same one as the one from One Hour Photo, just a different run of a similar (but not the same) Revoltech figure, but still sealed. $120. And I BET that the business only paid the person who sold it to them like $20.
@lilika5103 күн бұрын
It’s also worth noting that even if those tapes do work now at that price they will likely sit there for a while and by the time someone does try to buy them they will likely be mold-eaten and/or smell like vinegar because film is a very tasty snack for lots of bacteria that is probably already on the film and it is only a matter of time before it starts to rot. None of this even considers the fact that those tapes have already been used and vhs tapes wear down with every use because of the reader going over the film. It’s highly likely that those tapes don’t have mint-condition picture quality because of that and even if the tape is still in plastic wrap or something like that it still is unlikely to be in mint condition due to the fact that tapes rot over time, it’s why we moved over to DVD for crying out loud, because vhs tapes were not shelf stable!

not really, those are black diamond tapes so they're rare and worth a lot more than regular copies of the films, that's why they're so expensive.
