Let's install some tile! We are finishing the Melton Farm project up and its looking beautiful! I love the parts where we get to start installing all of the PRETTY stuff in a home. Tile and finish work is where I think we really shine. It separates us from the competition. Your finish work needs to be on point, because that is what everyone that comes into your house will see!

Did you choose the width of the tile accordingly to the width of the room so that the first and last row would end with complete pieces? Did you have to rip a little off one side?

No, didn’t choose tile for its size. It’s what the designer wanted so that’s what I installed. I ripped the tile a little on the inside wall and left the outside whole

What kind of mortar are you using and/or what kind of mix? Do you use different types with different substrates?

This is Schluter Allset. It’s smooth as butter, I like to use it with the Schluter products since it’s designed for it. Stay within each system would be a good rule of thumb

I apologize if I missed it in the video but in your experience, do you think it’s necessary to use a Schluter Ditra membrane over the concrete? I’ve seen a bunch of videos saying it’s a must to prevent the tile from cracking. I was wondering your thoughts. Love the channel !

No. Not at all.

It’s not necessary but it also wouldn’t hurt either. If the slab is cracked in a few spots I would recommend an underlayment. As I said in video, if you set to the concrete and it cracks… the tile will follow. I felt my slab was and will always be in great shape. No more cracking since I had the slab sawed for expansion when it was poured. Thanks for watching
