Tile Roof - First Row Details

When I re-layed the flat tile on my garage I saw that most of the tiles over the soffits were not secured at all. They had 2” short nails that barely touched the roof deck . Overhang soffits are the ship lap so they didn’t want nails sticking through to be seen from below. I get 60-70 plus wind gust during Santa Anas . I secured those tile on the overhang with exterior 2” spax screws that penetrated the deck . Function over feature. At least the tiles won’t slide down on the course like they were. I’ve seen other videos for ship lap or T n G overhangs where they notch the rafter so there is OSB or plywood over the ship lap so u can sink the nails and not see them from below . Unfortunately I don’t have that set up . Adapt …
