I understand the desire to save money on a project, and how expensive a tile shower can cost. I am also here to tell you that throwing good money after a bad repair doesn't work either. What can we do to help encourage proper techniques so that you don't have to experience a failure?

That pink tile shower lasted for about 70 years without leaking. It was undoubtedly installed professionally by the builder with the technology of the time. The previous repair (where the white tile was placed in the shower stall) was probably to repair or replace old water pipes and not because the tile wall failed, judging by the location under the shower handle. The curb repair was poorly done, and why it was done is unclear, but if the original shower floor had a lead shower pan, the water damage probably came from water leaking from the floor outside of the shower stall. Too bad you destroyed rather than restored a cool vintage tile shower. I would like to know if the shower stall you put in here will still be free of leaks, attractive, and functional in 70 years or so!

Water would pour out of the shower in the basement every time it was used. The shower was definitely the problem and not water from outside the shower that would come from where exactly?
