About The Carol Burnett Show
While there’s no truth to the rumor that “CBS” ever stood for The Carol Burnett Show, for eleven seasons and 278 episodes, this star-studded extravaganza of sketch comedy, song and dance became entertainment central for the network and TV viewers. Burnett operated in a relaxed theater setting that allowed her to take questions, cut loose with her famous Tarzan yell and join fellow performers Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner to have a laugh or sing a song. The show received 25 Emmy Awards and eight Golden Globes, making it one of the most honored shows in television history.

I tend to alternate between Democratic based independent broadcast political breakdown of the upcoming news of the day and comedy I need respite from the seriousness of the political climate and it strikes a well welcome balanced and I even listen to Carol Burnett as I'm taking my daily walk and I also own the complete series of I Love Lucy I was a baby when it aired! The fun of watching the Isle of Lucy episodes is that at the bottom of the screen it says when you were aired so I get to know how old I was when it aired LOL and I am so glad to know that and witness one of the episodes where Lucille Ball was a guest on that Carol Burnett Show!

What a wonderful trait to have to be able to make people laugh. These talented comedians did so without vulgarity or sex. Love the whole cast so much. They had the magic when they all worked together. How many remember when Tim Conway tried to go on his own with his own series?? Sorry to say his series didn't seem to last long. He was so hilarious. He and Carol along with Harvey were the greatest team.

I'm from the same era and love this show but the going on ad nauseum about how nothing is funny now or it's all sex and vulgarity is ridiculous. There's plenty that involves neither and if some does, so what? My God it was the 70's the era of swingers and one night stands. What's with making it out to be the era of morally superior prudes? Dear God these comments are ludicrous.

The crap being broadcast on TV in 2021, with reality nonsense, stupid prime time game shows, etc. is such a contrast to the greatness of shows like Carol's. Not every episode of Carol's show was great, and Carol herself admitted that, but even the least memorable episodes are better than anything on TV today.

I have to agree, I find television today to be a pain in the neck. I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea, and when I tell people I don't watch TV much anymore, they look at me like I'm some kind of weirdo. The trouble is I find that TV is not catered to everyone's taste anymore, and I have a hard time finding anything that appeals to me (thank goodness for channels like MeTV and Buzzr! Love the old "Match Game" with Gene Rayburn!)

Reality TV ? Sorry to say it is not!!! It's badly scripted non reality. I haven't watched a single TV show since 2017, because nothing is worth watching today. I thank my lucky stars that we have Me TV, Antenna TV, Retro channel, Decade TV, Grit TV, Fave Channel, Get TV, Crime channel, Quest, Bounce, LCL Now, Mystery, TruReal and Defy TV just to mention a few. And no cable or satellite either they are way over priced.

@@billgreen1861 MeTV (and its ilk) is bursting with long commercial breaks (usually for Medicare and for insurance for final expenses, all directed to boomers and Gen Xers) ... and so, to make room for all those really long ads, they have to trim bits of the shows they air. They're butchers, basically. Don't be surprised when a show like I Dream of Jeannie or Maude or The Waltons begins mid-scene, or has a sequence cut out. A show that should be 25 minutes is now much shorter. I wouldn't consider myself lucky to have this nonsense for entertainment.

It hasn't gotten much better in 2022. On the other hand, a few shows are just silly enough to get my attention - and then the networks scratch their heads, wonder why fun stuff doesn't work unless advertised, then substitute some boring genre instead... Maybe I'm wrong?

Carol always had the greatest singers on her show. And sometimes, she could sing with them and it still sounded amazing! Steve and Eydie were always everyone's favorites and she had them (Steve mostly) on a lot of times. BUT...interestingly, she didn't have many instrumental performers. Some of them sang with piano or guitar but that was it I think.

To all comments - I so have to agree with all. Now TV is all about stupid, inane programs or reality shows that are not reality but drama so you can watch. Really? Do they think we are all now in the present time stupid? There were so many shows that made sense back in the day and now we are exposed to mindless garbage. FYI: I moved to a new place in March and yes I have a TV hooked up and can watch stuff and guess what? It's now the middle of July and I haven't turned it on once except to see if if was working. Am I happy? You better believe it. Listening to whatever on KZbin that are laughs. Join me? We are entering a new world.

The whole shebang? Doubtful, sadly. There are a few collections available on DVD, like Best Of's and such. You can check them out on Amazon, and Time Life may sell them too-- they used to advertise the videos on TV infomercials, and still might. The full eleven seasons does not seem to be available in one big boxed set; someone correct me if I am wrong. This is a show that had so many songs performed in it that music rights became a big issue and still remains one.

@@Proudmoms If I could afford it I would buy every set that's available because then I would probably have a large portion of the show in my home. Well, maybe a fraction of the 279 shows that aired on CBS. There's a 50 episode DVD set available ("The Ultimate Collection") and there's something called "Treasures from the Vault", "The Lost Episodes", "Carol's Favorites", and more. A little overwhelming if you ask me. But be wary: reviews on Amazon for certain DVD sets report that the final production numbers on some episodes are missing. Not surprising. Again, things can hinge on a song. Also, in case you're interested: lots of Carol and company's sketches can be seen on Tubi streaming, with commercials. This can be watched on streaming platforms like Fire TV and also on your PC. These skits might be the same prints that the TBS channel used to air in the 1980's and 1990's under the title "Carol Burnett and Friends". And sketches also might be available on IMDbTV (free, with ads) or Amazon Prime (you may have to rent or buy episodes there).

Tim Conway’s old man skit is just not funny at all, it’s stupid. And I’m sick of Carol sticking him everywhere. I fast forward thru it. Conway is not funny at all. The rest of the cast are funny . The least is Carol

I agree except for the Carol part. She's the funniest for me.
