In 2013, when they lost the final to the Heat so close, any other player his age would be wondering if they might have missed the chance for the fifth ring. No Spurs, came back to win 2014. When the Spurs got eliminated in first round, people wonder if it might be the end of an era, then the Spurs came back with an even stronger roster. That's insane

I often think of Tim Duncan as being the Peyton Manning of basketball. They're actually only a month apart in age. They were both high profile recruits with enormous expectations who still managed to fulfill their promise and quietly but intensely redefine the game they played not with flash but preparation, execution and consistency. They're both close to being the best to ever play their game but they're still very solid decent people with proper perspective on themselves as athletes.

I feel like I could talk about him forever. Whenever I'm in a conversation and I mean to just say a quick passing comment about Duncan, I end up talking about him for at least five minutes. I'm a 90's kid and so I am of the probable bias that basketball was at it's greatest then, but I continue to watch for mainly one reason...Tim Duncan. He still amazes me, even as a fan to still be watching him and seeing him make each rebound,point,pass,assist,block,steal,etc and not realize how great he is doing because he does it so casually, so professionally, so fundamentally...until is 4th quarter or end of the game and he's a few blocks away from a quad-double at 38 years old. I finally went to a basketball game for the first time when they played the 76ers on Dec.1 just to see him. Unfortunately he didn't need to play and was rested. I even brought my rookie card and a black marker in the hopes he'd sign it, but I didn't know how I might be able to do that and it never happened. Either way I was just happy to see the man, that he is actually a real person.

Duncan is a more dominant, impactful, effective player, whatever you want to use than Russell throughout a career span by far. Russell is only a little more dominant on defense than Duncan, and that is being EXTREMELY NICE, because the tape shows he is an extremely overrated defender, everything in the past gets overrated, because the word overrated means to create a misconception . Where's Wilt? And if you even dream about bringing up DWS, in which I know Russell leads by far ... please, do your research .. WS are a made up stat which are 10,000 times as unreliable in the 60's (minimal tape, no Def reb, blk, stl stats .. no nothing) and WS also take into account errrrr??? WINNING? So if you have a worse TEAM?? That is nothing to do with you, and should not be included when talking about INDIVIDUALS. Duncan and Russell are comparable with their defensive rebounding production if you were wondering too, I hope you know Russell's numbers are inflated btw? 25rpg is not 25rpg today. Russell's advantage over many is his leadership and effect on teammates (it's not enough to make up for his defficiency on offense), but when talking about Tim Duncan, there is no advantage, Duncan makes his teammates better, he does no wrong. Now the offensive part of the game??? Hmmm? Russell playing inferior competition .. i'll list and show tape if I must .. because a few names are not enough. Russell 16ppg on 43% FG and 60% FT in HIS SITUATION (Easier than Duncan's) Duncan 22ppg on 50.1% eFG and 69% FT Now ppg doesn't matter, anyone can take more shots .. the EFFICIENCY is what matters. And Duncan is so so so much more efficient. Russell 13.3% AST - 16.4% AST. You need to really take into account, every little detail .. the offensive difference is too big to overcome. PLAYOFF NUMBERS ARE THE ABOVE. I'm going to give Russell a pass for getting bailed out by his teammates on offense ... the worst thing about it too is, HE DIDN'T PRACTICE, seeing even the bad NBA players of today working their asses off, it's so disrespectful too all players in NBA HIstory to give this guy a pass because his TEAM was by far the greatest ever in comparison to one's competition .. Obviously Russell was the defensive Anchor and leader and a part of the offense but .. we are looking at individuals, team has NOTHING to do with it. Duncan is a more dominant individual than Russell and that includes the effect you have on others. Oscar Robertson? Is that a joke? He is not a top 15 player and not close. YOU DO KNOW ... HIS NUMBERS ARE INFLATED RIGHT? SO NO TRIPLE DOUBLE .... GO AND DO YOUR MATH. And anyway, regular season = NOTHING. HE WAS ONE OF THE WORST TEAMMATES EVER? That has to be taken into account. His defense is suspect, his competition is suspect. Jerry West is in another league to Oscar.

Awards = nothing = LUCK LUCK LUCK. LeBron James averaged 38ppg/9rpg and 8apg .. played amazing defense, made his teammates better and lost in 6 vs the Magic. Teams win championships ... you can single out individuals in basketball, because they can dictate the game more so than one guy in football .. but can't give them credit for a championship. Michael Jordan was willing to do anything to win, worked extremely hard, wanted it more than anyone .. In his losing years, whenever the Bulls were going to face elimination, he would ALWAYS get his TEAMMATES INVOLVED, and his teammates sucked, he couldn't rely on them, but he would do anything, and still went to them, to try and get them in a rythm .... he would dominate both ends .. it's not enough, because he faced better teams. Russell is not close to any conversation ... I can't believe you are using bullshit like anchor of the greatest team .. he should have swept every game of his career with that team .. impossible to lose .. but because he didn't have an offensive game, the Celtics reflected that and were one of the worst offensive teams in the league, despite having the best playmaker, shooter, clutch player who can score, 6th man and all kinds on the team. He is one of the worst offensive players EVER, maybe if you actually take that into acount ..... HE IS ONE OF THE WORST OFFENSIVE PLAYERS EVER. So playing defense at the highest level and bringing leadership at the highest level is not enough to put him over so many guys. And I must be completely fair and forget his teammates completely, because if he was on a team Hakeem Olajuwon was on .. they are not making the playoffs. He worked well enough in the system, which reminds me, he had the greatest coach ever and by far the greatest coach in his time. So he didn't distort the offense, but that's because his team was so great. I am solely looking at him as an individual, Kevin Durant - Above avg defense, great great teammate, extremely dominant offense .. is he better? There is no reason for me to hate, just I can see .. I had Russell 2nd a year ago .. Look at my playlists ... 1000's of video's ... i'm at college, i'm always on basketball at home and whenever ... i've done my research. West is on Duncan's level. I hope you start looking at him as an individual and take everything itno account. The amount of players that get underrated because they weren't LUCKY ENOUGH, is sad. Chris Paul at the moment ... incredible, incredible, incredible, incredible player, i've only seen 3 more dominant players ever .... if he was in Magic's situation .. he'd have all the accolades right? I feel like I watched a gif. Every single clip is like a repeat of the same exact play: drive, penetrate, dunk. For such a simple basketball play, he's able to do it with consistency. Over and over. Phenomenal. What was interesting is that the majority of the highlights took place in the last several years and past his prime. Goes to show you the steady consistency he's had throughout his career. I enjoyed the consecutive clips of buzzer beaters and winning baskets he had...those too were from the last few years aside from the 3ptr vs Phoenix in the '08 playoffs. Great stuff. Would love to see you put something together of just his playoff and finals highlights or something from the first half of his career.

A product of being lucky ... the only player to ever win the award with a negative record ... meaning, the players on good teams were no good, and on any team were no good ... absolutely no one to compete for MVP .... ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. Put David Robinson in his place and you got 6,7,8, 9, 10 MVP's too, I can't see anyone taking one from him. He was a disgusting rebounder and defender, tape shows this and like I said, his numbers are inflated as far as rebs, he came into a weak and undeveloped era, where his height alone could have him doing things that would not work even 10 years later ... Kareem got bullied on the boards and defensively when he faced more "Modern" centers (bigger, athletic). He has all defensive teams due to??? Guess? POOR COMPETITION. But Kareem got his when they were out and no one else was in. So put Kareem in the league 15 years later and he's got ZERO all defensive first AND second teams. Luck is NOT to be part of any equation, and Kareem got lucky. Kareem has no case for anything when TRUE analysis is in place. But you don't know how to analyse properly. BTW this awards thing doesn't just go for Kareem obviously.

These men like Duncan and Bird do not look as athletic but it is deceptive Duncan at 6'10" and bird at 6'9"are quick when u see them live and in person or even on TV you can see the difference however slight it may be look at some Larry vs Jordan and tell me he wasnt fast and thats when he is old but Timmie is very strong cannot be pushed off the block and gives you a legitimate halfcourt offense which is necessary to win consistently he is always a threat down low rebounds double figures 11.3or so and at midrange demands respect and that alone opens other players ,also at number 7 alltime in blocks he can smack you down

David Hammond maybe I should have "least athletic" as opposed to "un-athletic". Because obviously all NBA players are super athletic compared to the everyday jackoff, such as ourselves. I'm sure Duncan is innately strong, but he definitely puts the time in the weight room. And his down low game is pure skill, not raw talent. Same with his blocks, Duncan's blocks shots because he's one of the best at timing, it's not because of his vertical leap.

Knowing the game of basketball as well as I do, being from San Antonio, watching Timmy play in real life many times, no one I seen play the game of basketball like Tim did. He was literally 3,4,5 steps ahead of everyone on the court, every game night, for 19 years straight.. it's hard to find words to describe his game.. Jordan and Duncan, in my opinion, are the two best basketball players in history. Both sides of the ball.. . watching this man play and understanding his play, he's a true genius of the sport.

His greatness is always under-estimated due to his low profile. 1000 wins in a single team, best winning percentage during his era in the major leagues, 2 MVP, 3 FMVP, 5 rings and 15 x 3 (all NBA, all defensive, all-star), that's really insane.

Timmy has one more year left in him. The way OKC series ended is not the way a legend of that caliber should retire. I can't imagine watching a Spurs game and not see a black or white Spurs jersey with Number 21 on the back. One more ring, Timmy. We can't watch you walk away from the game like this.

I don't think he had the same longevity. His numbers weren't as good when he got older. If you look at Tim, if he still played the same minutes he did 10 years ago, he'd be averaging about the same numbers, where Kareem wouldn't have. I'm not old enough to know for sure, but even analysts believe no one has had the same longevity as Timmy.

Tim Duncan, ever the steady hand of the San Antonio Spurs...and my favorite athlete (who happens to play for my favorite team, ha ha), stemming in part from his balance/discipline on defense (particularly on the interior), his running the floor to establish early post position, and the way he holds rebounds high to prevent takeaways and put himself in position to make outlets...to identify a few of the more subtle aspects of his rather well-rounded game.
