I know the cross over between progressives and people who watch mma is minimal. But one of the biggest tropes about UFC and its president Dana is that they don’t pay fighters any money. If you’re on the rooster for the ufc you get paid 2000 to show 2000 to win 4K total. You fight 3 times a year at most that’s 12,000 if you win every single fight or 8k for an entire year… you said it these guys beat each other up.. that means hospital bills which the UFC doesn’t pay. And then there’s the fact you have to train to beat someone up who also trains to beat people up that costs money. Strickland as a champ made 400,000k to show up and 400k to win that’s 800k.. you know a Japanese baseball player just signed a 500 million dollar contract right? MMA is not the sport you go into to make money. People are passionate about beating each other up. Believe it or not.

There are actually quite a few MMA fighters who are liberal/left-wing or have said they support political positions like that. They were a lot more vocal about it during the BLM protests a few years ago.... Perhaps the most significant one in recent times was Francis Ngannou, the heavyweight champion who tried to leverage his position to give fighters more labour rights. Nowadays most of them just seem to keep it to themselves, though. Probably because they don't want to antagonise Dana White, who is a longtime friend of Donald Trump.
@andu185411 ай бұрын
Which fighters lean left?
@SpatialFix11 ай бұрын
@@andu1854 Well most of them aren't really that vocal about their politics. And I think fewer still would have a coherent political ideology (like most people). But some examples would be: - Tyron Woodley, Jon Jones, Stipe Miocic, Angela Lee (pro-BLM). - Demian Maia, Nate Quarry (leftist) - Alexander Volkanovski (supports the Australian Labor Party) - Jeff Monson (anarcho-communist) - Ronda Rousey, Kevin Lee (pro-Bernie) - Karolina Kowalkievicz (pro-choice) - Francis Ngannou, Luke Rockhold (anti-Trump) - Paddy Pimblett, Molly McCann, Tom Aspinall, Michael Bisping (anti-Tory) You could probably problematise every single one of those. But the point is I wouldn't call any of them right-wingers.
