The bottom line is... No matter what anyone says, Rob Halford still sings his ass off! Turning 60 didn't change a single thing. The man still hits the notes and has one of the best voices in metal. All you have to do is go watch the man live and see for yourself.

I've just seen Ripper 4 times in Australia and he totally blew me away. Best voice ive ever heard live. As as for him personally, what an absolute champion guy. Ripper rules \m/

I totally agree with you. BTW this was shot in Budapest, Hungary and the rest of the musicians are all hungarians from local bands. You have to give it to them, they are really spot on as well, specially the solo.

Fuck yeah dude! Not many people can pull this song off. The golden star goes to Rob Halford of course, for making the map and key, but Ripper is by far the best replacement to fill those iconic shoes I have seen to date. I couldn't hit those notes with my balls in a vice.

@TheAmeader Second part of "Rapid Fire" is also one difficult song to sing. The version Priest did with Ripper =)
@akaHermanSnerd13 жыл бұрын
@DusanZeman The difference is that while Halford was on stage belting out the high notes in 'The Ripper', "Ripper" was still putting his baby teeth under his pillow. Halford was about the same age "Ripper" is in this video when Painkiller was recorded and released and nobody complained about Halford's performance then. For cripes sake Halford turned 60 years old last week! Give him a break.

why does this have to be a competition, Rob quit, Ripper came in and was opoen about his feelings about wanting Priest with Halford, but as that wasn't an option at the time he did the best he could, and he did an amazing job as far as i'm concerned Tim Ripper Owens is one of the best vocalists in metal, full stop, he is one of the most in demand vocalists going, sadly he has never been able to get a successful band together or solo career, which is a bloody shame, nice guy too

Why people don't like Ripper is beyond me. I know that the most accepted theory is that he was just a 'temporary replacement' for the Metal God. As much as I love the guy, Rob doesn't have the range or on stage voice that he used to. Ripper sounds as good as Rob did when British Steel was first released.
@captainfroghammer12 жыл бұрын
I dont even remember posting in this video comments, I was probably drunk lol, but yeah, Bruce and Rob are both awesome, I saw Maiden in Denver a few months ago, Bruce is crazy entertaining and his singing was awesome. Halford made some good stuff solo but I wish it had been with Priest. /cheers
@kranen112 жыл бұрын
That's because it's in lower pitch when Ripper sings it. But yeah, nowdays Ripper does it better, but back in the early 90's there are some great versions of Halford doing it the way only he can ^^
@TheBaskerman12 жыл бұрын
he is the ripper
@GrimdourTheRampager13 жыл бұрын
@Xerosnake90 Agreed; Halford always belts the high notes on albums, and for that reason he can't pull it off as well live; he needs some rest before the song whereas Ripper in my opinion sings on a lower pitch but can be consistent live and in the studio. He doesn't wear himself out.

@DoYouWorry Ripper is not losing his voice, have you heard the new Charred Walls of the Damned album? I am not here for a Ripper vs. Halford fight, I'm defending my favorite singer Ripper. He hits notes in that album that are virtually untouched. Listen to Zerospan, there is a section towards the end where he pushes the 6th octave. Singing the entire time, not just screaming.

@TheAmeader Yeah. Halford is too old today and when they did the Painkiller Tour his voice was shot :( Ripper has better high range strenght though. Halford can/could go higher but Ripper has that high range flow. Like in "Scream Machine", "Rapid Fire", "Declaration Day" etc.

@PontiacAlfaHSV I'm disagreed with you, I'm guessing that by your hellium comment your talking about his performance in rock in rio in 91, which, yea I agree, he was terrible in that one, but he did and still is able to sing Painkiller perfectly, I saw JP live 1 week ago and his vocals are untouched, he still has it, or if you wanna go more back in time, check out his Painkiller version on Anaheim, it's here on YT, sure this version was great, and tim fucking rocked here, but so Halford.

Agreed. Nevertheless, I find his work in other bands a bit weak. He came to Argentina in 2001 with Judas and gave an asskicking performance. I was astonished. And after he left I´ve been listening to his different stuff. However, I don´t like it that much. That´s my personal opinion
