Hi I'm from England Been running through all your videos on candle making just to get a handle on things for starting a candle making business. One question i have which i have not seen you refer to anywhere, though I may have missed it. Once the candles are finished and waiting for sales, how long can they be stored for? Common sense tells me, for a long long time. Is this correct ? Thanks

Thanks for the info, but how is it physically possible for a cured candle to give stronger hot throw all the time while burning from the top to the bottom than an uncured candle, while two of them having exactly the same amount of fragrance oils (= the amount of aroma released in the air)? I could imagine why curing gives stronger cold throw but don't really understand how it affects hot throw.

OK so wait. I still don't know why curing would make a difference in the strength of a candle's smell. How could that possibly matter when the volume of fragrance is EXACTLY the same? WHy would dispersion through the wax make it smell stronger?
@ed980274 жыл бұрын
My thought exactly. Spoke with my friend who is a chemist and he said that shouldn't affect the scent throw at all. Once the wax melts into a melt pool the molecule will just mix together again and it's the evaporation of fragrance oil on the surface of the melt pool that gives the scent, not the candle flame which will just combust the oil and won't produce scent.
@Yuchub334 жыл бұрын
Im a chemist. I think it only affects the cold throw, or the scent you get when you smell the surface only. They also harden a bit, if you care about that...

Candles are like jello if you think about it, the wax is like gelatin holding the liquid aroma oils... I make natural deodorants w wax and I have noticed the difference in texture. I let them rest at least 1 whole day, otherwise theyre too crumbly and soft

I've made a bunch of candles but haven't tried to sell them yet. I used 16 ounce parasoy in mason jars. I made them colored and tried to match the scents. My problem is i don't know what to ask for them. I believe i have about $4 cost into them each. Do you think if i asked $12-14 it's too much?

If I store a scented candle properly, how long will the scent remain ? Over time, (a year or two or five) will the scent dissipate from the wax? (Will it lose scent?) How long can one store a candle and still have a good HT?

Thank you for the information. I noticed you fill your wax on your candles to the top . I thought once the jar takes a different shape , you stop filling it . True ?
@TimberRidgeGifts5 жыл бұрын
It would just depend how drastic the change in diameter was. For a mason jar, it's not that big of a deal. For something with a weirder shape you wouldn't want to fill to the top.

Well, science is science, lol! I agree that candles smell better with time. However, on the opposite end of that....is this, my soon to be daughter-in-law gave me a candle last Christmas, it smelled good when I burned it then, now it smells off? It doesn't have the aroma it once did. It was peppermint for those who want to know that. Then I have a candle I've had for 4 years burned it and it was awesome.It was some kind of butterscotch, for those who want to know that. So, in my opinion, a lot has to do with whatever fragrance oil you use! Yikes! That is a whole nother problem. In general curing is great, but use your candles when you buy them! You can always buy another one, lol!
@Dara-ub9ol5 жыл бұрын
Do you know when the candle she gave you was made( date on the label or did she make it herself)
@jillgross5435 жыл бұрын
@@Dara-ub9ol Yes, she made it herself, one month before Christmas!
@Dara-ub9ol5 жыл бұрын
Did she use essential oils or fragrance oils? How old were the oils and what was the storage situation of the oils? I bought a closeout special of a fragrance ( floral scent) and it was great for about 6 months then it turned rancid. For the most part if none of the ingredients are compromised there's no reason a candle can't be just as good or better one year after it was produced.
@jillgross5435 жыл бұрын
@@Dara-ub9ol I am not stupid. Actually I personally work with fragrance daily. I create skin care and have added candles to my line. The candle she made for me was exactly what I wanted, it was made with fragrance oil from a very reliable company, I bought it myself the wax included. That is why if you read the above comment you will see I said it all depends on your fragrance oil. I'm not being hateful here, I don't mind the critique, what I mind is the idea that you think I don't know as much as you do??? Which, I don't think is fair, considering you don't know me, Please don't be so how do I put this...a put down.

Hydrogenation = saturation... it is a poly-saturated fat. (Bill Nye isn't a real "scientist", he was a mechanical engineer who worked for Boeing, and even invented a part for 747s. But in a real sense, he is like a designer of homes. Yet he is now regarded as an expert in all things scientific. Very annoying. I doubt he could have done a better job discussed scent incorporation.
