You'd think after being wrong so many times people would realize they have no talent for analysis and move on to something where they can add value to the world. Of course, it's just impossible to keep the talking heads from talking. Anyone who has watched Trey Lance and understands football has to be impressed. He has less than half the passes in college and pros combined as any other player who has started in the NFL. Yet his numbers are decent, and though inconsistent at times he has proven he can quickly learn from his mistakes and improve and move forward. Kid has a great head on his shoulders and likely a great future in the NFL assuming he can stay healthy and eventually get the reps he needs. Anyone who thinks he’s a bust isn’t worth listening too as just proves they know zero about quarterbacking in the NFL.

To those complaining about Lance being an insurance policy... Who do you replace him with then? Josh Johnson? Nate Sudfeld? C'mon guys and don't give me the "oh well let's bring __ (insert a name like for example Gardner Minshew)" because it's not like we can just bring whomever we want even if they are already signed with another team, that's not how a real market works. I'm also shocked that nobody talks about this: Trey's contract is guaranteed, if he gets cut there are no cap savings. The only way that Trey would go is if the niners ship him to another team ALONG with his contract, there is no other way. At this point Trey is worth maaaaybe a seventh rounder but if you add that expensive contract on top there is a chance that the niners would have to send him away and ALSO add some draft capital on top (like a 6th or seventh) just so that we release that cap space. It's dumb. Best to keep him and see if we can increase his value or as a third stringer, better than nothing! And certainly better than Josh freaking Johnson, Josh Rosen or Blaine Gabbert!

The difference between lance and purdy is down to how they both did in college. Purdy had four consecutive winning seasons with 46 consecutive starts at iowa state and lance had only 19 starts in 3 years and then covid hit. He got drafted, sat a season, named the starter then got hurt. Purdy coming off those 4 seasons in college won 7 games in the regular season and 2 playoff games. I think trey needs to be on a team that can develop him better than the niners can.

At some point we have to start asking the question, what is it about Kyle Shanahan's coaching style/staff - that leads him to have the most injured team of the last 4 years. This isn't just a quarterback issue and it isn't just last year. If he has a blind spot - his ability to keep his players on the field is it. The best ability is availability - and it seems like key players during key stretches are unavailable.

I have a feeling the 49ers are on the closing side of a window that is shrinking right before our very eyes. Not having your qb situation settled after like 5 years of Shanahan is not a good thing heading into the season. San Fran is qb graveyard since Steve Young was there. Showing my age a little. Garcia, Smith, Kaepernick, Jimmy J, Trey Lance, Purdy and now Sam Darnold is in the mix?? I'm sure I'm missing a bunch more. Wow, what a mess! Quite frankly I'm a little worried if I am a niners fan because if they don't at least make a SB appearance, the bottom probably falls out and they have to start another rebuild. The glory days of dynasties are gone and any team can fall off a cliff at any moment, ie. Look at the cowboys.

They could've had Justin fields who would've been way better in that system and they went with a guy who's barely played any ball BEFORE getting to the NFL. The botched that draft so bad, they have to be on the hot seat. That's inexcusable.
@AilmanF2P Жыл бұрын
Potential, he has all the things you want in a QB. Big, 6'4, athletic, big arm. His gameplay doesn't match his body, for whatever reason he has a hard time adjusting. You see guys raw like Mahomes that couldn't read a defense put up 50 TDs his first year. or Lamar with a not so amazing arm be a monster on the field. The 49ers were hoping to strike gold.
@dexterg90 Жыл бұрын
Lance sat his rookie year with spot playing. He went on IR after like 2 games in year 2. His confidence is shot. Keep developing him. Still hasn’t been given a chance and they drafted him way too early so the 9ers need to be held accountable and keep him

I think Trey needs more opportunities before you can write him off. A change of scenery would probably help if the 49ers are willing to get a return of pennies on the dollar.
@Chris-ey8zf Жыл бұрын
Change of scenery to where? Nobody in the NFL wants him. He can go to Canada or the XFL if he wants to play football. Maybe he will learn how to play there. Nobody is going to give literally anything for Trey Lance. I doubt he even gets picked up off the waiver wire.
@timclaus8313 Жыл бұрын

Gotta agree with James Jones on this one. They shouldn’t had drafted him that high especially since he doesn’t have no real body of work at the position. I think they drafted him to prove to the league that they’re the smartest franchise out of everyone. So they’re ego got in the way of what’s sensible. Then gave up so much for that inexperience. Gotta move off him and get something back for him. It’s some value there.

@@mr.boogie3631 😂 There was no market for Jimmy after he decided to get surgery which was a strategic move on his part. That’s why he had to come back and he took a pay cut and the QB 2 position to do so. 2nd Brock did look good not taking that away from him but it’s not like the Niners knew what they had in camp 😂 They got lucky with his play when he was forced in due to injury. If they knew what they had in Brock at game we would’ve been QB1 or QB2 or the wouldn’t have resigned Jimmy.

It's almost like Acho has a personal vendetta against Lance. The guy is practically a high school QB at this point. He needs reps and he needs tons of them. It's on the 49ers to draft a guy who need 5 years development into the starting role of a win now team. If the NFL still had the NFL Europe or any summer league for that matter, you could've send him there to develop. He should've never been drafted above the third to fourth round to begin with.
