As always, awesome video Hugh. I genuinely prefer to take the front end off just because I feel I have more space to play. I just disconnect the coolant hoses and then put the whole front end on some high jack stands supported on the crash bar. Works really well, and have unrestricted access to the ex manifold. Also, I prefer to do the oil filter housing at the same time, so it is easier like this. Wish you a very good 2022 👍, looking forward to seeing the business grow.

Great Video. Does it play no role if the sliding guide above the chain is not installed when tensioning the Vanos Elements onto the camshafts? You inserted the chain tensioner before tensioning Center screws of the vanos pulleys but the upper guide came later. Thanks again.

Is it ok that i put the crank bolt in with the pin in without having the cams on and locked at the same time? I have a 2014 n18. Torqued the crank bolt and then put the cams on. Is this order ok?

@TheMiniSpecialist thanks for confirming 👍. I'm looking to rebuild a head to fit on my daughters 1.4 N12B14 as the valve stem seals are causing smoking (using oil of course) and high emissions so it won't pass the MOT! Shame as the engine runs well otherwise 😕

We do this all the time - the valve stem seals are replaceable and you do not need to replace the head. I take my heads to 'Cylinder Head Services' in Bilston - don't know where you are but see if you can find a similar place near you. CHS buy valve stem seals by the 1000 now because I send them so many MINI heads.

@TheMiniSpecialist I'm up in Notts and there is an engine machine shop in Nottingham, but I asked them and they said I need to strip the head down (remove the cams, VVT and valves etc) for them to pressure test, skim and re-cut valves and seats for me to then built back up and refit 👍

Arent you suppose to replace the crank and cam bolts? They are torque to yeld bolts. Mini says they arent reuseable.

Fantastic video very helpful,I have just replaced chain and have pin in flywheel.have used cam tool,pistons all level.used tensioner before tightening cam bolts. Have done this twice now using new cam bolts each time, strats fine idles good but keep getting p1338 &p1339 and limp mode after driving a couple of miles. Do I need to run vanos adaptations as don't know what else to do, any help appreciated

Could be your vanos actuators are blocked if not the sprockets themselves- generally the original ones last and the non OEM replacements are more prone to failure - in any case if the oil ways in the sprockets are blocked then they will throw those errors as they cannot operate properly.

Mini specialist …independent one told me £1200 to fix chain belt does that sound about right ….most garages won’t touch countryman repairs engines to cumbersome to work on to much needs to some to say replace clutch or chain belt

@@TheMiniSpecialist Mini specialist by me can fix….but he’s offered me £500 to Buy it he’ll repair and put on his forecourt …I think he’s taking the P …thought I’d get £2000 post repair …he’s confused me quoting £1200 repair just the chain belt (aware other things could be damaged via the chain belt snapping ) so aware he’d charge more than his quote …the guy knows his stuff ( I live in the Lake District ) Costal Minis are the nearest independent to me …sorry to rabbit on but don’t know just to get shut and try get a better offer of him …this has a new clutch /battery and regular servicing it’s 60 2010 plate …
