Sometimes in the mixing process, you want a certain section of audio to have a different sound.
You could create a number of automation moves to create the effect you're going for, but Studio One makes this a little easier for you!
Event FX allow you to drop plugins onto individual events to easily create new sounds without having to write multiple moves in automation.
Have a question about Presonus Studio One? Ask in the comments and I'll make your question into a video for everyone else to learn from!

Towards the end of this video, I was thinking to myself, "Oh no! That selection is going to be affected by the effects on the track. That will drown out that special effect. Maybe it could be done on a separate track." Then, Tim addressed that issue and said the exact same thing! I was so happy that what I was thinking, actually is something that could be done, and so I am on the right track in my learning! :-) Thank you once again, Tim Talks Audio!!

This is nice. But is S1 smart enough, that if you add a temporal effect (say a delay or reverb), it will also render the tail that extends outisde of the event? That would be very useful especially with S1's ability to play overlaping events simultaneously.

Hey tim, do you know maybe why everytime I use a reverse reverb on vocals, it works perfectly. But it changes the entire sound of the instruments/2track beats? It muffles them, and I have no idea why. If I mute the beat chain that has FX's on like, eqs, etc. It goes back to normal.

Oh wow. I think I just ask you this question on a different video? So I'm tracking a small drum kit. If I were doing a song (think Every Little thing She Does is Magic, at the end), and wanted my drums to have the delay Copland used, I would just go to the point of the song I wanted the effects to start, I could just have the effects start where I mark it? Yes, I'm a complete newb with no audio, let alone DAW experience. Thank
@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 3 жыл бұрын
For something like that, I would use a send to a Delay. Event FX in my opinion, are for when you want to imprint an effect onto the file itself or for little spots here and there. If you want to effect a whole instrument, you can send a copy of that instrument to a delay or which ever effect you want!

Are you trying to do this to a midi event or to an audio event? You can also try selecting your event and putting the effect in the inspector pane on the left. If you are applying some event FX, you should see an orange "Render" button that will allow you to commit the changes.

@TimTalksAudio

It will only print an event with the plugins on the "render chain" and will not print the effects on the mixer channel to the event, although the channel plugins will still be effected by the event with the newly rendered event FX.

@@TimTalksAudio Thanks. So what can i do to only get the effect i added on the event and not the "main" one applied to the whole track ? let's say, on the whole track i have a reverb plugin and on a particular section i just want distorsion but without the reverb effect, how i do that ?
@TimTalksAudio

At that point, I would make a new track and cut the event out and move it to the new track. Copy all of your other settings to the new track, and just delete the reverb plugin.

@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 2 жыл бұрын
Correct. Event FX are “assigned” to specific events. If you were looking to apply the fx to the whole track you could try a few options. First would be to bounce the track, combining all of the events into one audio file or event. Second, you could insert the effect on the channel and everything that’s on that track would be effected. Third, depending on the effect in question and what you’re going for, you could create an fx channel or bus and use a send from your channel to the fx channel/bus with the effect plugin there.

Yes it does, and if you are still in a "pre-rendered" state, you can see the event fx chain in the inspector. With the inspector open, select the event, and just like in the video, you'll see the event fx section should have a orange or yellow button that says render, and a arrow that allows you to expand the fx chain. If you have already rendered the event fx, you can always "Restore" the event to it's pre-rendered state and see the fx chain that way. I hope this helps!
