Tinman iam a old school Stihl man and have been for years but since watching you build and work on those 288 and 372 huskys I ventured to the other side and purchased me a 372 farmertec kit . I put skf bearings and cleaned the ports up and chamfered around them and had a blast building the saw and let me tell you she's a runner and now I pick up the 372 every time I go to cutting. There are a few things I really like about it over Stihl and weight is the main one . Compared to my stihl ms441 to me feels heavier with 372 lighter and same power. Iam a orange and blue man now . Stihls are for back up! Lol

Having a machine shop turn the piston down .010 or so for those without a lathe is very doable and inexpensive. Having them turn down the cylinder not so much unless the shop already has a mandrel made for it. It is great when there is several options to reach your desired numbers. Excited to see what you decide to do on this build.

68 is correct but this can be tricky as once you reach bdc the numbers go down to zero until tdc probably since he was reading it from above so we could get a good shot but that aside he is very talented and has good information to share

Yeah, I seen 68 also Brandon!
@johnsonlong12723 жыл бұрын
You see 68 because of the camera angle. I have done this as well when you're seeing it in real person you're getting an accurate straight on number but when you show someone in camera the numbers they see will be anywhere from three to five degrees off. if you watched some of his other videos early on you will TinMan mention that the camera numbers are different. I once took pictures of my timing number so I wouldn't have to write them down immediately when I look at the pictures I realize they were all wrong and had to re-time the engine and write the numbers down in a notebook.

Great info...love this content. I was thinking of doing the top end on my 268se and bumping it up with the 272 set up so this info is priceless. When measuring something soft with your vernier one should use the flats to measure. You could get a inaccurate measure with the tips as they can cut into the solder.

16 degree blow down can you run it with open muffler
@Ketis19853 жыл бұрын
Thats not enough blowdown. You need 20 degrees. Physically too high transfers will cause poor scavengin and unburned fuel will be wasted through exhaust port. Machine work (cutting base and squish band) should have been done to that cylinder to get those transfers lower to 120 and then to raise exhaust to 100.

If a saw is really bad I'll take it to the carwash and hose it down before I tear into it
@johnsonlong12723 жыл бұрын
Like tinman said pressure wash it right before you tear it apart. I pressure wash the outside then pull the plastic covers and wash the insides of those and down around the cylinder and as much of the saw as I can get to. But you must take the cylinder off right after that and get the water out of the crankcase if you get any inside of her and you likely will. If you leave moisture in the crankcase the crank bearings will rust up If you leave the cylinder on trapping the humidity inside for an extended period Of time especially if you use hot water or degreaser I use both and it's not a problem as long as you pull the cylinder dry out the crankcase with a little shop air or a hair dryerthen I spray a little bit of light spray oil like wd-40 any kind of lubricant will work, sprayed into the bearings and on the crank to keep things from rusting.
