Tinnitus Cure or Letting Go?

Why letting go is a better description of curing tinnitus. I have cured my own tinnitus but I use letting go because this more accurately describes the process of getting better with tinnitus.

I am glad you have silence much of the time. I suffer from chronic tinnitus. It's there all the time. I hear it over the shower even. It's a part of me as my legs or arms are. But you are dead right. Letting go is the only "cure" we have right now. The first several months of my condition were hell. It took me a long time to come to terms with never being able to hear silence again. And it was a post on a tinnitus forum that helped change me, my outlook to it. And the message was very similar to yours. You have to let go. You have to stop obsessing about the condition. It's likely here to stay and the only way you are going to be able to deal with it is to accept it, make the conscious decision to not allow it to control you or your life and to push on. It is not terminal. It is not going to kill you. But it will destroy your life if you let it. The only way to cure it is to change your outlook and your attitude. I eventually came to that conclusion and as soon as I did, as soon as I stopped giving a shit about tinnitus, my life starting again. I was able to function better and cope with life. It's not to say that sometimes it pisses me off, because it does. But I don't allow it to hold any power over me like it did before. I still hear it all the time, it's the last thing I hear before falling asleep and it's the first thing I hear when waking up. And I hear it over everything, tv, people talking and so on. But it doesn't control me. This is the essence of the video above and the post I read on a forum that changed my life a couple of years ago. Don't let your life be dictated by the sounds in your head. Live life in spite of it. You are in control.

It`s interesting because what you are actually doing is helping people to treat and let go an anxiety disorder through an isolated symphtom called tinnitus. Thanks for your support.

I realized it before, but this is good. People are in fight or flight reaction and they don't even know about and this reaction keeps adrenaline and stress which couses tinnitus and many different somatic symptones.

Thank you for the video, Julian. I always kind of assumed the reason for using 'letting go' instead of curing was for this reason, but nice to hear it laid out like this. 'Letting go' works better because it implies something WE do, and also requires some time.

You’re absolutely correct. Mine definitely began when I was under a stressful time in my life. The fight or flight kicked in....now I buzz away. Over a year later....and it’s completely tolerable and I miss it when it’s not there. Go fucken figure?!?! I really enjoy your channel. Your message alone makes my tinnitus disappear....well, less annoying.

Thank you, Julian. I have been watching your videos for about 5 months now and have had weekly cranio-sacral therapy for four months and continuing. I practice yoga and tai chi, swim, and work to keep my stress levels down. Your 'letting go' explanation is very helpful. My tinnitus backs off for a day or two a week, some times just a few hours in a day. I could sense your honesty and integrity from the first video I watched. Thank you for helping us. I did not listen to the ENT (who said there was nothing I could do) because of what you said in your videos. I told him to his face that I did not believe him and that I would prove him wrong. You saved my life and I know countless others. I am far from letting go completely, but I am well on my way. God bless you.

Dear AndyThank you for taking the time to write. I know how disturbing tinnitus can be atthe beginning, especially when you do not understand what is going on or how to let go of symptoms. For this reason I put together all thethings I have learnt from working with over 600 people with tinnitus and condensed all the practical advice into a small, practical and readable book called, “Tinnitus, From Tyrant to Friend: How to Let Go of the Ringing in Your Ears.” You can find this book translated into several languages on Amazon. Just type my name into the Amazon search engine. If Amazon is not in your country you can buy it from the US store Amazon.com. The best thing you can do, first of all, is understand how tinnitus works and then build up a support network. I recommend finding a craniosacral therapist and going once a week for a couple of months. This will help your nervous system release, settle and let go, and will bring you out of fight or flight. This helps tinnitus get better. My book explains how this works. To find a CS therapist in Europe please go to www.craniosacral.co.uk Or in North America go to www.craniosacraltherapy.org/practitioner-referral Otherwise look on line. I’m sure you will find one somewhere not too far away. Failing this find a good body-based practitioner eg shiatsu, acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, reflexology etc. A good one should be able to settle you well. Secondly I recommend that you take up gentle yoga or tai chi and practice this regularly. This is hugely helpful because it takes your mind off tinnitus, helps you focus in the body, which in turn causes your adrenaline levels to drop which in turn causes tinnitus to pipe down. Finally I can offer you skype sessions. Please contact me to find out how much I charge, I can do body-based focussing with via skype and talk you through things that can help tinnitus back off. The more you understand how it works the less threatening it is. Please look at my You Tube videos which you can find here: kzbin.info/door/P0pfmXnI8hMnXP52Eg2pEg and in particular I recommend starting these focussing techniques immediately: kzbin.info/aero/PLxZrSQ0Jpqb_9uOg82RORVw-HLKGnBtmu Those that have regular cranial work and who practice these techniques or a body-based approach like yoga or tai chi get better. The prognosis is good. Its just a matter of time, in my clinical experience. Good luck with it all. Best wishes Julian Cowan Hill Tel 00 44 7910 315167 julian@cst.eu.com

@@Reroluelisre I must say that even if I still and probably will always have Tinnitus, my brain "learned" on how to let go and ignore it. This is fantastic because now I don't hear it..., if I want to, I will, (I just need to put attention) but as soon as I start "hearing" my tinnitus: I try to relax and tell my brain that "Its normal, its all good".... I do have every now and then "spikes" and just like before, I focus on staying calm and try to let go, eventually in the next few min, that spike will go away. I had the bad experience of "focusing on that spike" and freaking out, therefore my tinnitus "came back". But I really want to highlight that keeping your mind occupied will do the trick. Exercising your mind to "learn" that "the tinnitus sound" its normal will make it to go away. Basically every exercise that @Julian Cowan Hill gives you, will help you in the process. (Is not like a pill, it takes time, practice and PATIENCE)

Hi Dr Julian, quick question, if T is fueled by "fight or flight" response, then how about people who had it for many years and already accepted their situation and learned to ignore the T sound? they seem to still have the T sound though i believe they are no longer stuck with their "fight or flight" hormone. (i am not trying to be negative here, i really want to know more about this, since i've had it for 3 weeks now). 🙏
@JulianCowanHill
@JulianCowanHill 3 ай бұрын
Fight or flight can initially trigger hypersensitivity and then we can get stuck in a pattern where we learn to hear the brain buzz. Cranial work helps you come out of fight or flight, which brings the activation levels down, and also helps release the buzzy charge in the temporal region/ear area. Please note I am a craniosacral therapist and psychotherapist and not a doctor.

So, eliminate stress? I agree. My tinnitus came from a mental breakdown. At first I blamed the medications, my business, or my GF for dumping me, but it was actually a wake up call to change my entire lifestyle.

Julian so I was exposed to loud gun noise on June 19th 2016 and I had ringing for about 5 weeks it finally went away thank God. but the only thing is bothering me now is pressure in the ears and feeling pain in my left ear. I went to the doctor they said my ears were not damage everything is fine. but why do I feel so much pressure in my ears and have a mild ear ache type pain in my ear when I go outside or when it's cold I start to feel pressure in my ear n it starts to hurt Is it allergies?
@JulianCowanHill

Much more likely to be the shock in your system causing nervous activation to keep cycling on. Please find a craniosacral therapist or a good body-based practitioner near you and go once a week for a while. This will help release the tension and stress left in the tissues and structures of the ear, temporal region, jaw, base of your head etc.

Can i ask why or how you got your Tinnitus? i myself don't really know. i just noticed it one night, i'm guessing it was after a night out with my friends at really loud bars or maybe having my headphones volume too loud but i'm not 100% sure.

Hi I really admire your videos, keep it up. But ive had tinnitus for 4 days now just recently it came to the other ear, i have been using antibiotics for over a year for acne (tetrycal) do you think that is the cause to my t and do you think if i stop taking it, it would eventually subside, in really upset cause im going holiday soon thanks.

I know this is an old comment, and I hope you are better. I know you asked Julian, but I will add what I know. Yes, antibiotics can either cause, or worsen tinnitus, as with many medications.

I'm a drummer and was exposed to acoustic trama by to speakers placed in the wrong area to close to me . It's been 2 months I'm seeing a therapist and PT for the body head work you mentioned , sorry can't think or pronounce the correct term for that PT person . Anyway Ent specialist says give it more time and keep working with the professional I mention . I have anxiety over the fact that the inner ear may have serious damage to that hair area . The noises have changed a little and decrease a little . I also find everyday noises and general loud talking can be a little to much but I seem to tolerate them a little better also . When I say a little better that's just about it a little . Your thoughts and thank you for your help .

jamesy dakidd I also have the pulsating tinnitus. It really has a lot to do with stress, thinking about, over eating, too much salt....allergies. I’ve taken Benadryl at bed time and woken up with no ringing at all. I think allergies plays a huge roll in my tinnitus. Had this buzz for well over a year....when it’s not there, I miss it. So you will be able to deal with it over time. I just think back to when it was really bad and I couldn’t stand it....and guess what? I got through the day. I continue to teach, play in my rock band (with very expensive ear plugs, of course), I exercise...life moves on. A little buzz in the head ain’t the end of the world. If a ‘cure’ would help ease your mind, check out www.otonomy.com they are going through FDA safety steps now. OTO-313. They are based in San Diego, CA. This is one of a few companies battling to come out with a ‘cure’ first. There is big money in inner ear medicine now that most eye problems are solved. Stay positive and continue on my buzzing friend. :)
