As you said, the original adversaries of the Aurora expedition are Americans. But the origins of the different scientists are also a sign of WWII. There's a German and four other scientists from "neutral" European countries: Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland. The "good" Europeans vs the "evil" Americans. The plane used by Tintin is an Arado Ar 196, a German plane used to destroy allied submarines.

Great video! On Herge's antisemitism, I recently learned that the original black and white version of the comic contained a deleted panel with 2 jewish caricatures happy that the world was going to end so they wouldn't have to repay a small debt. If the bad guy of the comic can be kind of ambiguosly jewish, those 2 are really drawn like those WW2 nazi propaganda posters, which is kind of baffling to see in a Tintin comic.

Despite the shorter length, the changes to the adaptation aren't quite as disruptive and jarring as Tintin In America.
