While I LOVE the aesthetic and functionality, I’m not sold on the cabinet beneath. Can you hide the legs to make it look built in? It just feels a bit weird floating there. It looks amazing otherwise!
@michellemorales
@michellemorales Жыл бұрын
Yea I feel the same way. I thought when they built the platform they were going to remove the legs. The legs are rad though, so it’s tough, but it looks kind of odd though. Everything else is looking great! Though I would have installed lights inside the top cabinet too.
@Quiteinfamous

@@michellemorales I was thinking the same thing, I think the lights at the top and bottom make the cabinet so dark inside. Also the box below should just be a cool looking cabinet. The feet feel really off and the feet can’t be cut off because that piece is beautiful
@y0utuberculosis

that is a fair point, it's gonna be annoying to clean under there too. it'd be super easy just to stain a piece of wood and stick it over it.

She could maybe enclose the bottom ro hide the legs. I agree that rather than a cabinet, it looks just like a piece of furniture shaved into the space.
@oritshermer

@@michellemorales completely agree with you and was thinking the same thing while watching! Even though the legs are beautiful they do feel very off when placed on top of the buttom part. I would hide them with an additional drywall going upwards and might even consider placing some of the same tiles on top of that drywall to tie the bottom to the top and make it look more intentional.

When you inevitably renovate your kitchen, I’d suggest moving the credenza into another room (could make a great dresser!) and re-tiling the whole floor so you have the freedom to knock down those half walls and put in proper lower cabinetry. The vintage upper cabinet and tile are such a vibe though! Great job making it work with second hand materials!!

I love love love the top part, the lighting truly makes it look so glamorous! I don't even drink coffee but I'd love to have this as a tea station! I'd have put the hole to slide the glass doors in the bottom corners so it'd be easier to slide them open and closed but I guess you could leave them half open for daily use so there aren't too many finger prints on it :) The bottom part though, as beautiful as the vintage piece is, it's not getting it's moment to shine where it's placed right now and looks rather awkward with the legs on the raised platform. It'd look cleaner with built in cabinets. But as you've mentioned in the video you can move it someplace else in the future if that's what you want to do.

Danish Oil is NOT food safe! It is combined with varnish and other chemicals that are toxic. I know she said she won’t be prepping food there but she also said it is food-safe and it is definitely not. It is made by Rust-Oleum, which makes a butcher block stain and oil that IS food safe. I love Becky and this project turned out beautiful, just wanted to clear up the misinformation in case anyone was planning on using this product for food prep surfaces.

As a person whose parents bought Danish furniture (when they were in Denmark!) in the 60s, who grew up with and still has Scan mid century furniture and loves it, you nailed it! Ive been using Watco products to refinish and maintain my furniture for decades. It’s a great product (but highly flammable so take care to dispose of rags/sponges very carefully). Overall, design, execution, problem solving, re-using, and final product = A++ EXCELLENT!

So many great design choices Becky🌞 IMO the credenza inside the white box is unnatural and looks like you tried too hard to make it fit. I would use it in another space, as a stand alone piece. I knew there would be some comments concerning the legs of the bottom cabinet. BUT do NOT cover them up! That’s part of the whole 70’s vibe. I do agree there is something too stark about the white box. Perhaps covering the front of the box with a wood facing stained to match the cabinet or the counter would reduce the obviousness of the box look. And maybe softening the color below the cabinet with something warmer than white. But I still love it!!

I love it so much. I love the vintage cabinets. The cabinet lighting makes the tile look awesome (maybe some lights in the upper cabinet? Cool decor on top?). The space into the dining nook is so much more open. And I bet you have more usable space, even losing a closet. It's absolutely beautiful.

It honestly looks SO amazing!! The tile is beyond great. It also makes the dining area look EVEN BETTER! I will admit, I wasn't a huge fan of the couch in there at first, but now with this nook also having the same vibe, it looks perf!
