NYC tiny apartment tour #2! I had so many requests to show more “ cheap ” micro apartments in New York City. This time with a private bath. Renting in Downtown Manhattan (West Village) can be quite expensive. This unit is just over 100sq ft for just under $2,000.
Let me know in the comments if you could live here, and how you’d decorate the space.
See my 1st Tiny Apartment Tour Video here:

At least this tiny apartment has its own bathroom so that gives it a MAJOR advantage over the previous tiny apartment. I’m sorry, not to be graphic, but what if you have the stomach flu or something. I want to be able to have access to my bathroom and not have to worry about someone being in there or it being nasty from someone else.

Melanie Viselli It’s the location that costs. NY is the greatest city in the world because it has everything in ultimate abundance. Especially downtown. And it also has the greatest position from really havoc wreaking storms. So the place in actuality is a ghetto, but the location with such greatness in supply, accommodations, travel and scenery is what cost so much to be in.

I'd live here. It's the perfect location, there's just enough to make it "quaint and adorable" (like those bathroom stairs, I love!) and it would force me to be creative... like I would totally wash some of my clothes in that dishwasher instead of dishes... You can't fit more than one of each dish in that place anyway! And I'd repaint that ladder and install some sort of murphy couch on the wall so it can be used for leisure or open up floor space. Like i said, i'd have fun getting creative with the space.

$2000 isn’t cheap. I’ve lived in NYC for 25 years. The fact that “cheap” can’t be attained by someone with a full time service industry job or retail job is a serious problem and one that everyone in the housing industry needs to address. This was not always the case, there was a time when NYC served a variety of socio economic demographics. There are people with regular jobs who would still not be able to pay rent for something this small while still working full time. Calling it cheap is a bit of a slap in the face to these people. I know you mention students a lot... but your referring to students whose parents pay their rent. It’s gross. It’s a cute apartment and at all and yes the neighborhood etc, but let’s call it what it is: overpriced and meant to exclude the working class. Speaking of the working class... yes the people who work at all the cute bars, coffee shops and restaurants... these people MAKE the neighborhood as desirable as it is. They deserve affordable housing.

Collette Mclafferty cheap is a her take in comparison of what the market has to offer. Take this issue up with the housing market not her KZbin channel. Secondly I work a restaurant job 34 hours a week making well into 4K so don’t speak on us we’re good.

SociallyChrissy TV your lucky and I’m happy your making that. You represent a sliver of the industry, unfortunately the industry as a whole isn’t good. I don’t have a problem with her channel or her videos. I have a problem with her calling it cheap and believe she is part of the problem by doing so. It’s a public forum so I’ll take it up with whomever I please. Namaste.

SociallyChrissy TV Happy Easter. This is an emotional issue for me. I have lived in NYC since 1994. I have seen so many beautiful, talented, hardworking people get priced out of the city who didn’t deserve it. It’s a painful situation. I love that this woman is doing what she loves and making money at it, but to ignore the fact that the housing market is a painful situation for people who contributed to the culture of of NYC for decades is not okay by me. This used to be a city for everyone- now it’s for elitists. I just left yesterday after 26 years. All the best to you and Happy Easter.

@@cmtaylor531 ah, that's true. So grandma lives there on paper. But that grandma dies very early on in the show, so shouldn't the owner of the building get some sort of notice from the government or something? Or do they keep sending out rent bills to a dead lady?
@JJoy-bk8yr
@JJoy-bk8yr 3 жыл бұрын
The grandmother had both the New York apartment and a Florida condo but had stopped going to her New York place. The apartment was rent controlled, meaning as long as the grandmother had it, the rent could never be raised, so it had been the same for decades. That's probably why they never fixed the elevator and the superintendent would hassle Monica. If it ever went to a legal challenge, the grandmother could have said she would go "home" if someone would fix the elevator, and in the meantime Monica was house sitting! If I remember right, the grandma passed away pretty late in the show's history, after Monica and Chandler were getting settled in their marriage and thinking about starting a family. (The show ended with them moving to the suburbs.)

Create a smaller bathroom sink with a little medicine cabinet over it. Remove the current sink to the space below the cupboard in the kitchen. Move the cupboard to the wall on the left and a small table placed there can be used for a kitchen work top, a work desk and dining area. Lot's I could do with the space.

It's unbelievable how expensive it can be to live in a shoebox in NY. I love small space design, but we have to draw a line at some point... In most micro apartments there's at least one function/use that is a bit more comfortable (a nice bedroom or a good kitchen for example), but this apartment looks uncomfortable for pretty much any use. Meanwhile, the price is way up there.

@harveythepooka
@harveythepooka 4 жыл бұрын
Don't feel like a jerk, imo 900 could be perfect or terrible. It all depends on how the space is laid out and also how you design the rooms and use them etc.
@aryastark3148
@aryastark3148 4 жыл бұрын
@savannah rose 900 sq ft is huge. I downsized a couple years ago to under 300 sq ft and it's tons of space. I even have two bikes in here, my sewing machines, instruments, no closets.. so I made a platform bed with crawlspace underneath. I have a settee, a trunk, armoire, night tables, a small kitchen where I can cook anything, dishes dry over top the sink, bathroom. Mini portable washing machine in the stall. Still nearly half the space is open floorspace for sewing, yoga, just being space.

I would buy a loveseat/sleeper, or a futon and use the loft space for storage. It would function as a great storage spot for bigger things, and winter/summer clothing switching. Definitely would buy a wooden ladder and secure it to the wall for the loft. It's cute and has potential. A private bathroom and a dishwasher is wonderful! I can picture this space all furnished with a little creativity.

sorry for leaving 3 separate comments but i just wanted to say you did a great job showing off that space and i appreciate how you did that and your voice is very pleasant to listen to. showing these places to the world, ofc you're going to get comments about price, mine is one of them but just bcz i've never made that much money a month so i literally couldn't pay that but earning potential aka cost of living is different there and the life style is different in NYC its unique and people are willing to pay for that. i just can't imagine it, but i do so enjoy seeing the spaces and what is available so i appreciate you showing us this and any you do in the future! :)
