I am a Singaporean who's pushing 60. I had witnessed first hand, Singapore's progression from a 3rd world country to a 1st world nation under the leadership of Mr LKY. Mr LKY was a very much beloved leader who was admired and respected by the people. At his state funeral, millions turned up to pay their last respects, with hundreds of thousands queuing overnight for 8 to 10 hours to do so. We love this man because he truly cared for our welfare and was deeply burdened by our survival as a nation when Malaysia kicked us out of the Federation. I, and I believe the older generation will always be grateful to this man, and we will always hold him dear to our hearts. Thank you Mr Lee Kuan Yew ❤.

I made my son watch that interview to understand why it has to be capital punishment if caught smuggling drugs in Singapore. It was very insightful. The rewards are huge in trafficking drugs and many are willing to risk it. But we cannot continue to build prisons because it drains our tax money and most importantly, drugs destroys thousands of lives and families for several generations to come.

Singapore is a good example of how to achieve success by forging its own path instead of blindly following Western ideology which as we can see has eroded their national identity and allowed social rot to set in. As a Singaporean born and bred here under our first Prime Minster Lee Kuan Yew’s helm-ship, I find some Western media rude, obnoxious, derogatory, supremacist and lacking in depth when they attacked him with their use of words. Am so proud of LKY as a Singaporean in his 50s for all he stood for, championed and did, to bring us all up into the people we are today. We don’t need the Western media (or way of life when it doesn’t apply to us) trifling with our country the way they have made a mockery of theirs through coining insensitive comments through words strung on a string to be blown around in mid air to sow discord on the pretext of liberalism and open ideology based on their insidious and often barbed and warped intentions. We don’t need to follow them when they have done absolutely nothing for us except dish their media nonsense to talk down, ruin and fracture our sense of self; we are able to discern and think for ourselves as cosmopolitan Singaporeans. We are willing to learn from the best but apply only what is applicable in and to our context. Who we are today is largely attributed to first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his treasured cabinet of committed and hardworking political luminaries who worked so hard to bring up our country. I think Lee Kuan Yew works well in city states since the people voted with their feet to go into Singapore and they can vote with their feet to leave it. However, Lee Kuan Yew in a big country like China would be a different story.

During the shahs rule, Iran was on a rocky but steady track to the cliff of prosperity. But after the shah was overthrown, the country's economic future fell off the cliff.

Its not possible, because LKY's views values contraditcs with most of Indonesians believe today, ever since the fall of Soeharto in 1998, Indonesian transition into a democracy with elections every 5 years, and majority of Indonesians tend to demonize any form of iron fist governence, ask any Indonesian today many would dismiss Singapore or China's success citing that they should learn from democracies instead of authoroterian countries, its just never gonna work cause our society has a different mindset with Singapore's and China's

No I am Indonesian, I am speaking this based on my experience interacting with intellectuals who were radically pro democracy in campuses, I asked them about Singapore/China's model of development most of them responded to me "Soeharto's era has proven authoroterianism is bad for our country and if we follow Singapore/China model it will bring us back to the era of oppression, the only reason why a lot of young people idealise it because they didnt experience the new order era" and this trauma resulted from Soeharto era is the reason why a lot of intellectuals here are radically pro democracy, if you watch LKY's interviews and speeches, most of the things he says would offend an average Indonesia who is radically loyal to the values of the 1998 reformation.

I had to learn more about him, and Wikipedia described me LKY from the Westerners' point of view as an authoritarian leader and a benevolent dictator. After listening to him, I am not surprised at all that the West decided to label him as they did.
