I seen all the discourse surrounding dragon age and while I do understand the flaws in its story and world building, noone has shown of its combat like you have in your videos. The mages combat just looks and sounds so fun that I’m gonna be picking up the game for the combat, thanks for the amazing showcase of the gameplay!

Whoa! That dodge backwards for the spectral boomerang to travel further and possibly hit more enemies is sick! I keep seeing comments about "simplistic combat" and just laugh when I see all these different combos and the ways you can chain things together. Being able to cancel animations into a block or dodge alone with my Warrior Rook has already made the combat incredibly engaging.

This game is probably the best action combat I've had in a while from a non-soulslike. It's less buttonmashy than Wukong and has plenty of depth with the skill tree and combat tech. The biggest thing that stands out? Almost every level feels impactful and there is ALWAYS something cool around the corner to want next. You're never more than two levels away from something potentially gamechanging or build-defining, and every piece of gear has something to look forward to that can be built around. Honestly impressed by the variety.

Found a lot of success with the "stave, long range, sling spells from behind while Taash or Davrin take point" playstyle. Leaning heavily into death caller & necrosis and getting health back while staying away is working out great and I'm having a blast. Takes awhile to feel good though as before I got my tanks, I was having to constantly run around and dodge a lot more enemies but once I hit around level 15-20 and the two warriors joined, it's been so much fun.

Same. I started with Orb/Dagger Spellblade because I've always enjoyed that hybrid magic/dps roles, but found that mobs/bosses just bee-line after me (especially early on before the tanks joined the party). I re-spec to a control build with Frost and I'm finding more survivability especially combined with a tank and another mage with Slow

It’s not bad. The story is what the hardcore fans come for, and they’re is tons of lore and unique experiences you can have depending on your choices, each area opens up and becomes less linear as you get through the huge game. If you’re here from the OG DA games, this is tight. It’s lore heavy and meaty with content. Everyone is hyper focused on ten lines of dialogue in a 100+ hr game. Hop off 😂 all the games decisions connect like mass effect, this is what the die hard fans have been waiting on, the casuals gotta pipe down If we get another, my Ideal dragon age game for next time: Baldurs gate tier decision making, free roam like the Witcher, combat like Witcher/veilgaurd (real-time) mixed with inquisition’s character swapping and then we need a return to form in terms of graphics, less saints row, more inquisition-esque, u guys have a gas IP and great lore, keep it coming , I’m all in

I recently discovered the Necro mage as being pretty damn fun. Don't have to worry about mana, or health really. Running the 2 necro spells, and Ice Blast - really solid and fun I think. What inspired me to run it - i found a unique neckless +20% all damage if at "low health" can only have 70% of max health - AND a unique ring that says every ability cast will always be a critical hit, each ability cast costs 20% of your health. I wanted to find a build that could hang with low health and this is what I can up with... running with warrior who auto taunts when my health is low and also puts out a healing dot on me.

I'm digging my ice evoker mage. Just reached lvl 20 and haven't gotten the orb skill yet, but I can see where it's going. I freeze mobs, blast them with my charged staff, then I blow them up from weakened or sundered, and finish bits off with normal ranged attacks. Been pretty fun so far!

Solo (no companion leveling) is a blast as shield warrior with focus on stagger I can dish out massive staggers in the begining of every fight but some of the champions patterns take hours to learn and beat. The one on travose was insanely hard to beat but I did it at level 12 solo.

at lvl 18 right now with chain lighting and tempest coupled with shock affliction that bounces arcs of lightning when at 3 stacks. i burn this with neve/bellara time slow ability allows 1 free cast and a 50 mana return when finished. also lucanis or harding has a support ability that buffs your attack and also returns 50 mana on use... because orb and dagger is faster it works really well with demolishing large groups of enemies because each hit on an enemy with 3 stacks of shock... bounces 2 arcs of lightning. i find myself only using primers and detonators against bosses as this combo does a considerable amount of damage, ( without unlocking the CD effect to time slow, your companions cannot use abilities during it... you are the only one not affected by the slow)

You can re-spec at any point completely freely. You can even remove and reassign skills one by one. No need to do multiple playthroughs. Try a few different things and see what you like

Not exactly. The death caller gives you the ability to quickly regenerate mana on demand. It is supposed to play together with some Crowd Control. You are supposed to Dump Mana as quickly as possible, CC enemies and regen mana with the Block+Light attack (Channel thoughts node +50Mp/s). What the charge attack does, is allows you to quickly destroy armor and barrier, since they take less damage from Necro spells. So the play style is: Dump as much damage as quickly as you can, find a safe spot or CC enemies and Refresh mana as quickly as you can). Compared to spellblade Blast upgrade, that one allows you to cast a spell, blow up the Arcane bomb and then immediately cast another spell to blow it up again, but does not help with mana regen. Where as the Death Caller allows you to spam spell constantly, but at the same time with a short delay between the spells since you have to also constantly regen mana manually. last but not least, the combination of Mortalitasi and Overdraw increases your total damage output by +50%. Since it increases your penetration of enemy resistances at the cost of HP.

I have a melee, all lighting skills. I use my two buddies just to cast "slow time". Because the first spell you cast is free. So, Storm is always free. I use a rune to reset the ability of my buddies. With the talents, Storm builds up shock and burn stacks. My weapon is a fire orb. +1 burn stack and +20% more dmg per stack. With 5 stacks, double the dmg. For the rings, i use the same versions. One for burn and the other shock. 20%more dmg vs shocked/burned enemies. Because i apply burn/shock at the same time. 40% more dmg. I dont use combo stuff. Its lackluster.

One thing I can say about this game that is a huge positive over previous DA games is the combat. 100x more fun than the old boring, slow rooted combat. It was almost a chore actually playing the combat. This has some many different styles.

I do miss having to build a party that matters though. I want to setup a tank, a support etc. But you will be tanking 85% of the time no matter what you do here, even as a mage. Its quite disappointing in that aspect.

Also a question with passives that ranged attack deal necrotic damage could we use other elemental staff like fire to have effect of both necrotic (barrier damage) and fire (armor damage) apply together ? if that possible could we also get with rune & other stuff I don't know if its possible but a bleeding damage (life damage) for mage ? or is it best to stack only necrotic damage ?

Fighting large groups of enemies is the easy part of the game - fighting bosses as a mage, welp, I did not get to do any light attacks XD just constant dodge dodge - DONT STEP THERE - dodge dodge - POKE - repeat There are 2 types of dragon age players 1. Those that liked the strategic approach to combat 2. Those that disliked strategic combat. Now there is no strategy - click buttons that light up. Hope the bosses aren't machines that need dodging constantly. Its really easy to fight groups even on harder difficulties. I found that bosses are the only issue. (as mage)

Your target reticle will just disappear while dodging sometimes. Which results in your camera facing away from the enemy you're in the middle of trying to not get punched by. It's really annoying, but I assume there's a trick to not have it happen.

I've found that just, having a lock-on system is the issue. It does exactly what it says. And when 6 elite enemies with generally aggressive attacks are rushing your face, you get bowled over because you were locked on to one. Game's not really designed for single target.

Its weird, I love the game and the graphics seem to be overloaded when watching videos but it isnt when you are playing by yourself. But also Im frustrated by the combo system and how to generate those, not that it is been set bad by developers,it is more my personal thing cause Im too slow to press those buttons and forgetting wich combo generates what makes it even worse.
