Thanks Roland - will never forget the first time I met you - probably the late 80s - you past me on hwy 49 south outside of Jackson, MS - all of a sudden a big Ranger boat came around me - and I noticed the signature “extended “ deck on the front , I said - that has to be Roland Martin - well long story short - I caught up with you and you pulled over, talked to me - gave me some Blue Fox baits - talked about turkey hunting with Will Primos - and acted like we had known each other for a lifetime. Now almost 40 years later - I’ve never forgotten that experience - thanks Roland!!!!

Talk about timing, I just showed a friend “boat launch fails” earlier. Later your vid is the first one to show up on my feed. Another tip would be to find an empty parking lot to practise backing up with a trailer. Hours of stress and embarrassment can be avoided from an afternoon of practice.

To be completely honest. Launching and trailering a boat is a major factor why i haven't bought one yet vs renting. I have seen some stressful situations at boat launches with people who arent so great at launching or trailering.
@ibanez20103 жыл бұрын
You're not alone in that! When/if I ever get one, I plan on putting lots of time in practicing on smaller lakes during off hours.
@justingamble8983 жыл бұрын
Don't worry too much. I've owned a 30 year old bass boat for 2 seasons and each time I launch it is a learning experience. The first few times were at off hours for practice, and usually if someone sees you are struggling they are friendly and happy to help. Just keep calm and think about what you need to do if something does go wrong.

Once you done it a few times you'll get your own routine down. I do my boat differently but I also have a way different boat. Don't stress it and maybe go practice on a ramp that isn't used much.

You're right about different ramp grades requiring your trailer be put in at different depths. My Nitro z21 will bow under the front roller of the winch stand if the trailer is put in too deep on a steep ramp. I hate to have so much trailer out of the water because it requires a lot of power to push it up the bunks so the Bow eye meets the roller. It certainly takes some finesse not to drive it through the back of the truck. Wetting the bunks first helps. P.S.

After powering the Nitro onto the trailer you didn’t show how you get from the boat to your tow vehicle. With the tow vehicle backed over the water, did you step out of the bow of your boat into the water? If so, you should comment how slippery the submerged launch ramp can be.

Make sure you have a full tank of fuel ⛽️. I’m surprised nitro boats don’t have a safety strap for the bow? I’d recommend not un clipping until you have the boat safely in the water. We usually crank up get her going then un hook 🪝 my dad will back up some more as I’m reversing. We leave it trimmed up because it’s safer then after I pick him up at the ramp steps head out after he puts on his vest. Trim down but I check my water depth then plain out past no wake zone buoy. Make sure the weather is going to co operate no lightning. Make sure batteries have been charged. Your lanyard for these newer trolling motors and or your power poles if it’s grassy it’s ok to beach your boat drop them to prevent your boat from floating away. Beaching boats without a keel guard will eventually put a hole 🕳 in the hull. The sand n rocks and waves will rub a hole into the hull. It’s best anchor off wade use a step stool while camping or use and rent a boat slip. With bumpers. If the ground is too soft for a stool gingerly come in closer step quick while backing out. Or have family hold the boat while you step in. Make sure your cell phone is charged. Make sure if your passenger is a diabetic he has insulin or she. Have things for head aches. Your bilge pump works. Diabetics n hot sun get a big sun hat drink and hydrate often. Have bananas 🍌 chilled get sugar free diet tea. Now if it’s safe to swim go cool off in the lake use sun shirts clothing you can jump in with a sun shirt get it wet to stay cool. Get umbrellas ☂ they make em for boats. If the weather turns least in the south it does just because the meteorologist said ample sun. Make sure your phone is tuned to your lakes weather alert if you hear an alert 🚨 tone go in wait in the parking lot for thirty minutes usually they pass

That transom saver uses the trailer instead of bracing off the motor, otherwise you wouldn't be reducing stress and highway flex on the transom. To me it doesn't make sense how people these days for the most part are using motor toter's and they don't save the transom if anything they might support the hydraulics but not the transom
@TheJoez19733 жыл бұрын
Shame on you Roland. You forgot a big item. Clean, drain, dry. There’s nothing better than spending an afternoon on the water, but be careful no hitchhikers tag along when you leave. After using your motorboat, kayak, paddle board or scuba equipment, be sure to remove any attached mud or plants. And be thorough: even tiny plant fragments could be home to larvae of invasive species! Then, drain all water from bait buckets, motors, scuba gear, waders and any other object that might house liquid. If possible, use hot or salt water to clean the equipment for maximum impact, and allow everything to dry thoroughly before using it in a new body of water. And don’t forget Fido! Dogs, horses and other pets can be perfect vehicles for small invasive species to hop from place to place.

I run the 2 cycle motor out of fuel, saving the carburetor. SOAP should be added to the list. I keep it in my tackle box. When handling any gasoline or petroleum substances, get that stuff off your hands before handling rods, reels or any line and lures. Fish can smell that stuff and they won't even wave 'bye-bye' as they turn their heads and swim away.
