Here's a little theory: This was some time before the kid died. The father, recorded that night on a tape. And since the child's death, he's been sitting in that chair, listening to the recorder, fearing that if it ever stops repeating, his son will truly be gone.

Out of all of Tipsy Duck's videos, even the most visually horror-based, and those with dark and suggestive themes, this video unsettles me the most. It actually perturbs me on some kind of deep, subconscious level. It's the last scene, with the father in the chair by the fireplace. The composition is strange. All of the objects that we would deem as most important in the frame are all either in the center or on the right of the frame. The fire loop is broken, and the focusing of the objects in the shot is distorted. The table in the center is out of focus, which could be understood if you wanted to change the camera focus to look at something farther away (which puts objects close to the viewer out of focus). Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the back of the father is almost touching the fireplace, and yet he is just as out-of-focus as the table. All of the furniture we saw during the brief intermitting scenes of the father and his son in the room is gone. Its sudden disappearance communicates a sense of emptiness. The table is bare with the exception of one storybook about a cloud, which is left open and unfinished on its spine. The father specifically is the most unsettling part of this shot. He seems to be relaxing in his chair, but his feet are not resting on the ground, which suggests movement. This is heavily juxtaposed by his relaxed posture. You might think 'he's just tapping his feet,' but his feet are not moving. He is completely static. Additionally, his relaxed posture is broken by an unusual curvature in his spine, in that his hips are tilted in the opposite direction to his shoulders. The father's position in the scene is strange - he's only two thirds in the shot, and the most striking feature of all is that he's been unfocused to just the right degree and you can't see his face properly. Perhaps his eyes are closed, and he is sleeping? Who sleeps with their feet pointing upwards? Where is he looking? He is not looking at us, so there is no acknowledgement we are here. Just the father in his empty room. The orientation of his head suggests he is looking at something - specifically it looks like that object is behind us and to the left, or perhaps something on the floor. What other important feature of the room could he possibly be looking at? His son. His son is gone. No need for extra furniture any more.

What I got from this was that once you see that everything is a loop in the universe, time doesn’t matter anymore. At the end I’m assuming that the boy was going to say that he didn’t want to “play again” but he didn’t get to finish his sentence. This could mean that he grew up and it happened so quickly because he was starting to realize that time doesn’t matter, he also saw that not wanting the universe to be this way would do nothing since it cannot be controlled . Like you were saying, some of the furniture was gone because the boy is gone, he probably doesn’t live there anymore. I also think that the reason why the end was focused on the fireplace because it represents the oven the cloud killed himself with.

@timeforamazingchest52716 жыл бұрын
+ 112358132134 55 It's been a while but I looked at the composition again and the entire scene is arranged to draw attention to the fact his son is not there. He's looking at where his son was sat, everything is asymmetrically-placed to highlight the empty space on the left, and the book is unfinished. I think that drawing a connection between the oven the cloud used to kill itself and the fireplace in this video is a bit of a stretch, but I can't honestly rule it out. Perhaps... If this connection was legitimate, the story of a cloud is a story of his son? An adult adrift and commonly hated by passers-by, stuck in a loop of despair caused by being unable to change who they are.
@vamosoracio1706 жыл бұрын
@@timeforamazingchest5271 I say it's schizophrenia. The way he is silent, almost mentally talking to himself. Maybe he lost something dear of his, and his brain is trying to cope on the grief or loss he feels in his soul. The way the child disappears and he repeats the story over and over again. It must be a sign of him not accepting something that happened to him, his brain not processing what horrible, grim thing must have happened to this man. And I think the part with the space and the clouds, how the world is ticking, I think it's his sanity or will to live slowly withering away. I rest my case on thinking this man has schizophrenia
@thecrakp0t6 жыл бұрын
I'm still chewing on it, but here's my take. The cloud resembles the child in the beginning, scared of literal monsters under his bed. A fantasy born out of naivety. The father replies with a heavy remark about monsters being everywhere, and it's clear that he's being figurative. This highlights what the video deems as the true threshold between childhood and adulthood. This theme is reinforced through the story of the cloud being born happy and motivated only to eventually succumb to depression and existential dread once being beaten down by the harsh realities of life. This leads to the cloud eventually killing itself, and in its place a new cloud is born, equally as blissfully ignorant. The tragedy being that this cycle is doomed to repeat forever. The next part in space I think is just typical Tipsy Duck mind fuckery and serves mostly to unsettle to viewer than anything else. Although, because it's in space the clouds have nothing to do other than be alone with their thoughts, alone and miserable. You'll even notice that the close up of the cloud in space is out of focus ever so slightly, similar to the father in the final scene. The planets orbit the Sun like clockwork and the emptiness of space really sells the unsettling tone Tipsy is known for. The child and father begin to repeat themselves again, only to be interrupted by that smash cut to the father sitting in the very out of focus room Nihilism and repetition play a huge role in this story. It's about a child who was born blissfully ignorant and naive, only to have these reassuring traits stripped away by the constant harassment of his peers, feelings of uselessness, and the eventual loss of any sense of purpose/accomplishment, and how we sometimes never recover. It's unclear to me of the cloud killing itself in the oven is intended to symbolise the father's suicidal ideation or rather a metaphorical death of the innocence one possessed in childhood. Edit: also, I think the thing that supports my theory that the cloud, child, and father are all one and the same is in fact the final shot of the looping fire. The man is out of focus, in a big empty room and the child is no where to be seen.

I think the space theme does more than just unsettle the viewer, it provides us with a feeling that there is more to this story, more complexity that we can’t quite fathom. This is an excellent way to help express the father/child/cloud ‘s deep depression and his wish for something greater. Even if it is just to prove himself small

I'm not good in interpreting and this is old... But what if his son was the cloud? Not literally of course. But maybe his son wanted to something good for the other people and tried his best to help them, in any way possible. His father pressured him to do so as well, but no one wanted the help. They didn't understand that the son was trying to help them and started to hate him. Soon enough, the son became depressed and wanted to escape it all. He felt so awful by those thought of him that he couldn't do it anymore. So, he commited suicide. The father wished that he could bring his son back and start it all over again, perhaps tell the story of the cloud again. In the hope that this time, he could save his son and not make the same mistakes he did before. But, unlike a cloud who comes in the watercycle and comes back at a point. A human doesn't.

+Jacob Clark I feel his only flaw is the fact that people wish to ignore these facts, that people try and only focus on whats presented in front of him and not what it means. Oh, that and he still attempts to be comedic in his works, such as in the scout & heavy in this one, which frankly ruined the experience. I feel if more people were to actually look at his works for what they truly are, not on the surface, then his works would probably be highly praised. But no. They only look at the very surface, such as the scout, and the obvious looping, the details that do not matter. A flaw that isn't his own, yet his own to be.

Well *Living In Obscurity* won a saxxy so I wouldn-Nah I wouldn't have a *Wishmaker* make me wish for that stupid joke. However, as a *Protonic Moron* myself I would like to say that we ourselves are like *A Spark of Life* in which we all find ourselves, in one way, *A Baby Trouble.* We have the *Power Of Art* , *Turbulence* Fighting against our dreams, and alas we all End up wanting to go *Back to the Saxxys.* Damn How did I manage to do that shit? We Do Pretty much live in our own *VIRTUAL REALITY* XD ok I'll stop.

I always end up coming back to this video because of the end. It's just so impressive to me that he came up with the "thoughts of thoughts" poem himself, and it makes me sad that this video probably won't be remembered years from now.

The story is of an ignorant person, yet good at heart, who desperately wanted to help the others around them- but the only problem- was itself. Slowly realizing this, the person decides to fix the problem- by ending their own life. The person is now dead, in what is best described as nothingness, while only having it's thoughts to... Think of. At the same time, it can still see the universe, without interacting with it. What used to be the person then waits in wonder if the afterlife will have another stage, but this never stops... This is some deep philisophical shit- and it has to deal with death and reincarnation. We don't know. That's what this story is about. (WELL, MY BEST GUESS!) TIME TO GO WATCH CATS GET BATHS!!!

Was the kid voice actor speaking into a microphone in the next room? (Still a great video though, good luck!)
@TheOneShotWunda5 жыл бұрын
•Finn• it think it kinda plays into this theory that’s being tossed around the comments about how we are listening to a recording of the events of that night that the father took. It kinda makes sense how the kid sounds like he’s far away from their microphone when recording because he was farther away from the microphone than the dad who had the recorder closer to him.

I’m sure the repeating fire at the end means something... I got it. Tipsy is trying to show that us people are just like that cloud. Constantly trying to help others even though it’s pretty worthless. We keep trying with other methods, like the cloud did, but it’s no use. Then later on we die. But we are reborn and the painful cycle of the inability to help others constantly keeps going. We have lost the recorder to someone as well... but who could it be? He’s trying to show that... no matter what we do... it’s not special. We’ve tried it before. It didn’t work then, it won’t work now. It’s the very definition of insanity.

3:34 Notice how the planets (especially the middle one) seem to move at slightly different speeds at different parts of their orbits? You seriously went the extra mile of adding a minute astronomical detail to a 6 second clip which has absolutely no impact to the story, just to be a bit more technically accurate? There was no reason or significance to this. That's what I call dedication.

About a year and a half before I saw this, I stumbled across a joke where they said “stop thinking of pink elephants” But since they said “pink elephants” I thought of it. Later, I was thinking of something and I thought, “I’m thinking of that” But then again. “I’m thinking of thinking of that” and eventually I tried to escape. “Maybe I’m thinking of a infinite loop where I sit and think of this for all eternity and thinking of that will help me?” But that turned into a loop too. When I woke up, I thought of thoughts that themselves thought of pink elephants. Eventually, it wore off. But dang is that feeling interesting. To think about what you’re thinking.

My theory: They live in a world where many things are sentient, but everything has a "tape" attached to it. all sentient things hope their tape will play again when it ends. Each tape has a random length(shown by the earth scene).The father at the start knows his son's tape will end and thinks it will play again, to celebrate, he tells a story of a creature who had their tape play again, a cloud, in the middle of his second time telling the story, his sons tape ends but doesn't play again Edit: the scene that plays on the second trip are all the clouds that had their tape play again
