Compared to before, Poirier's grappling defense and tactics were much better vs Makhachev because he was training with Gamrot and he didn't make mistake to try any guillotine vs Makhachev as well. As for Volk, Volk simply can't be submitted, Ortega had fully locked mounted guillotine and triangle, Volk survived those. Topuria never showed that, Bryce took Topuria and controlled him on the ground.

He gets knocked down in many of his fights. Got floored by Chandler, by Gaethje, Poirier, it was only a matter of time until Islam did the same, the only difference is, Islam had confidence in his ground ability against Charles and got the win in that way. I would wholeheartedly agree that Islam has better striking ability than Colby. The only thing Colby really had going for him was his gas tank. He's able to push a pace for 5 rounds and keep striking. Not powerful strikes, but just a large number. Islam would beat Colby. Honestly though I still would like to see that matchup, because I'd like to see if Islam can take down someone like Colby.
