With the low block or down block, I teach the beginning position as a cover or guarding position. The arm swinging down can be to block, deflect or parry the incoming strike. That would be possibility 1. Possibility 2 is that the down block or low block starts as a guard or cover where the low hand grabs the incoming strike and pulls while the swinging arm is the counter hit, using a hammering motion. I think it's fun to dissect Poomsae and enter the "what if" realm. Great video!

The interpretation of the preparatory movement as a block and punch combination is very cool! I will try this when we practise self defense next time.

Love it! Pleeeeease do more! Do you have aby experience with the ITF Tuls/Kata/Forms? It's always interesting to see what WTF Jeja think of 'em. Other TKD bunhae/Hae sul channels I think you'll like are Russ Martin TKD and Stuart Anslow/Rayner's lane taekwondo/Chang hon Tae Kwon do Hae Sul

I am liking this Tae Kwon Do stuff. It's been a great refresher and this was a nice, practical lesson. I hope you are able to find someone who is willing to be punched for $2/hr. The way you shoot these feels like short bumper clips that would play in-between cartoons on nickelodeon or something.

Well- (I do kinda like your idea of movement skills) if you do the research you will find ancient Korean texts of Korean😮 martial arts, emperors guards, army documents etc, such as Muye Dobo Tongji, but especially due to WW2 there’s a lot of Japanese influence. I agree with your use of the guard and preparation of a simple low block to do more. That’s what black belts do. Don’t forget that a low block can also be a release from a wrist grab, basically a low forearm strike while withdrawing the arm being grabbed, same with high block, either can be used if both wrists grabbed, simply circle your arms one under the other then hit the block either up or down.

I’m not sure why you engaged in the mind reading. I’ve read Sang H. Kim’s translation of Muye Dobo Tongji. Have you read it? I didn’t see anything in it resembling Taekwondo. The boxing posture drills look as far removed from Taekwondo as martial arts inscribed on the walls of ancient Egyptian ruins.

To be honest the biggest differences in Korean martial arts between Tkd and TSD is that TSD are very honest about where their base martial art originated from ...lol...actually a number of World Tkd practitioners have attended Iain Abernethy bunkai seminars which I've attended, the ITF guys I train with sometimes, well you'd think I'd invited the devil to Sunday mass when I suggested they attend a bunkai seminar which is ironic considering ITF patterns are way more compatible with practical applications (some of which are very similar to some karate kata) than the sportier WT forms...they just rabbited on about reaction force, sinewave "The General" said blah blah...🙄.... so congratulations for the video and actually saying "it"

I noticed your hammer fist vid application at the beginning, can you repost that plz or explain? do u use ridge hand much in your self defence techniques? I would say the hand to the shoulder is also for additional reaction force from my training and according to General Choi.. what are your thoughts on his concepts and sine wave technique? enjoying your channel !

Yeah, if you want to be more rounded that’s always a good idea, in the same way that if all you know is boxing it would be good to learn some kicks.
