Toni, my 90 year old mother was working on a throw twelve years ago when she suddenly had open heart surgery. The incomplete throw went into a bag and this month my mom rediscovered her unfinished project BUT she forgot how to do the stitch. She is a visual learner and the written book she had was simply, now, confusing. She described what the stitch was and I went searching through KZbin. This lovely video of yours popped up, I sat her in front of my computer and I FF to the first row. She had two AH-HA moments, remembered what she forgot, and bounced into her sitting room. I went on to watch a few vlogs I had in my watch list when she burst back into my room with the project and showed me four NEW ROWS she completed that were identical to the previous rows created over twelve years ago. To tell you the truth, there are not many ways to make a 90 year old woman happy, BUT YOU DID. THANK YOU!

My grandmother grabbed so much yarn and hooks thinking she'd get into crocheting and knitting and never did. She found out I got into it and gave me a bunch of stuff like bags and bags of yarn and hooks and one is a Tunisian crochet hook and I started squealing lol she had no idea how happy I would get. I've been really low on money(couldn't afford my hobby) and I've never had a Tunisian crochet hook I was about to cry. She was saying that if she knew I would get so happy she would have waited for Christmas cuz she doesn't know if she could top that 😂😂

Have you ever tried to learn something, you buy books, you watch video's and it just never sinks in. Then one day, you come across a yarn review. The reviewer is so good, so entertaining, you subscribe to her channel as you feel like you are sitting with a friend and she is talking directly to you. Her smile is infectious, and you cant help but smile too. You watch her make these lovely swatches. Tunisian crochet! The one stitch that you just could not pick up from books, from other videos, this wonderful lady shows you in and a few minutes, you too can now do it!! I can not thank you enough, this is something I have been trying to learn for a long time and just couldn’t get. Your teaching skills? Perfection and just what I needed. I cant tell you how tickled I am to now be able to do this. I plan on watching the rest of this videos so I can pick up the variations and different patterns. You made my day, my week, my month! :)

I have taken regular crochet in person classes and tried to learn on KZbin. It has been very frustrating as the teachers will do 3-4 slow stitches and then whip through the rest of the row. Here, the teacher for Tunisian Crochet goes slow on each row and talks through what she is doing for each stitch. What an amazing experience! Being successful immediately is very rewarding.

Toni, thank you for a wonderfully clear video. I think what makes the difference, at least for me, is the obvious respect that you show for your students. Some other teachers slow things down, but leave us with the feeling that they consider us idiots that need to be talked down to. Not only do you explain the "why" of things, but you are also able to predict the kind of questions that naturally arise in the minds of intelligent beginners. You project a kind confidence that we will be able to learn this new [to us] way of crocheting [logic without condescension]. Of course it is not a new style: the afghans made in the 18th century testify to that.

Thank you so much for this. I tried learning Tunisian a couple decades ago and it always curled so tight I ended up with tubes that were also slanted somehow. No one ever said "go up two hook sizes" nor did they point out to use the side stitch instead of the final top loop. I still have the hooks I bought two decades ago. I've been holding onto them because, you know, they ARE crochet hooks and I always told myself 'someday'. Now that I have watched this video of yours I truly feel that someday is finally here. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am excited to try again.

Toni, thanks for this tutorial! I learned regular crochet from my Nana when I was 5yo (she also taught me embroidery). I taught myself knitting when I was in my 30s. I'm now in my 50s, soon to be 60, and have wanted to learn Tunisian crochet for a while. A friend bought me a little kit last year that included a Tunisian hook (she didn't know what it was for). So I went on eBay & got an inexpensive set of Boye Tunisian hooks to learn on. The first tutorials I tried, I didn't understand where I was inserting my hook, and I had so many WIPs, I decided to come back to it later. In the meantime, I found your tutorial & once I saw it I thought, I know I can learn it by watching Toni. Just sat down today with my yarn & hooks to follow your tutorials & I was right, you're excellent at teaching! Thanks for your patience & thoroughness. You teach as someone who understands how makers think. I want to make a long-sleeved shrug for my nephew's gf, and I think Tunisian is the way to go on this for me. I want it to look knit but I'm all knit out right now! This is the perfect solution. Thanks again & now I'm going to look at your Tunisian stitches tutorial.

I've been crocheting for over 20 years now, and I've had my Knit Picks Interchangeable Crochet Hooks for over 4 years, but I'm just attaching the cables today and going to try to tackle the Alum Bay Shawl by Sharon Carter (yarnimals on Ravelry) A few things I love about your video: 1) Your smile. You channel your enjoyment and happiness visually through your face, and it's contagious. 2) Your voice quality and your audio. I don't know what you use for your camera and sound, but it's working very well. Your voice is soothing, your instructions clear, and there's not background noise distracting from what you're doing. 3) You are extremely easy to follow. You know what you're saying so you don't trail off or make mistakes; you explain why things are done the way they're done; you keep your yarn, hands, and hook all very well within the frame so nothing is ever not visible; your choice of background is extremely conducive to helping to be able to see the individual threads of even your very lightly colored yarn.

I’m completely self taught, never took classes, and haven’t had any friends who also crochet (often is considered an “old lady” craft which is absolute Bull) and all the crochet/knitting clubs/groups had an age limit of no one under 30 (and turns out they definitely enforce that rule) . So I’ve been pretty much on my own. I recently discovered your channel through reviews of ergonomic crochet hooks from Amazon and there you mentioned Tunisian crochet. I admit I was thrown completely for a loop (pun intended) at this and looked up how to Tunisian crochet. And lo, your tutorial showed up and I have to say I absolutely LOVE how you teach. Usually when I find tutorials I want to know more, and the questions I have are never really answered. Yet when I watched this video, every question that popped into my brain was answered pretty much right away. Not only that, but you made me feel like I could do this, and felt so warm and welcoming. Needless to say, I am very excited to pick this up and I know where I’m going to turn to for tutorials from now on! Thank you thank you thank you!!

Thank you for finally making me brave enough for Tunisian Crochet!! I was so intimidated by it for some reason. I got all my hooks in the mail today and I love it already

I second all the others who have complimented you on your explaining! I have been crocheting for 54 years and have never come across anyone who makes it so simple to understand what is going on and what to look for. I found out things that have bugged me every time I tried Tunisian Crochet, and now I actually can't wait to get more yarn, break out those dusty hooks I bought decades ago with big intentions but left when my project just snarled up and looked like a raggedy mess! Thank you!

Hi there, I have been crocheting for about 55 years and never venture into Tunisian Crochet. There are many tutorials out there, but I could not get a handle on this form. So today I figured I’ll give it a try. Came upon your tutorial and watch for a bit and I figured why not give it a try. Anywho 😊I saw yours and I’m so happy I did. Great teaching. I must admit that I had to rip several times. But lady I finally got it! Thank you for teaching me this at my age.

My grand daughters were learning knitting in school, the older one could not get it, so I researched and found Tunisian crochet, Success, we did that together, then I learned knitting so I can knit with the youngest, I learn by videos because I can not comprehend written instructions well. you are very good, I can understand and follow then teach the kids. YOU ROCK!

I love this tutorial. I’m an experienced crocheter, but a novice Tunisian crocheter. This is my go to tute to remind me where the end stitch is. Thx Toni ☺️

This is miiiiiiiinnnd blowing to me! I’ve been a knitter for almost 20 years. I’ve tried to crochet, it’s always been difficult for me to pick up and I’m just not very coordinated at it. Something about the loops/stitches resting on a knitting needle was always easier for me. And then I see this beautiful love child between the two crafts called Tunisian crochet! 🤯🤯💖💖 Thank you for your excellent explanations and teaching style. I can’t wait to dive into this whole new world!

I found you in my feed the other day, and I want to say, you are awesome. You have a great personality, and you explain the the stitch you are doing well. I have come across a lot of hard ones to follow. I have been wanting to learn this type of crochet, but it was always intimidating. You make it look easy and I feel I can totally do this. You have a new subscriber! Thank you. Keep on doing tutorials.

That was great!! Concise, no over explanation, WAY EASY to follow!! A friend of mine who knows I’m an avid knitter, gave me the LONG knitting needle with a hook on the end. I’d never seen one before. This was 4 years ago. I know know what she gave me!! CANNOT WAIT TO USE IT!!

I was procrastinating for monthss on doing this because I thought it was going to be so much harder than it was. I would pass over the video and pass by the book, I don't have time or patience to learn that but you have taught me something in minutes that I thought for sure would take longer. Thank you. I think this is one of my favorite ways to crochet now.

I watched your video once, then started an experimental swatch of my own. Your explanation was perfect. I too love how you went over every detail. It was easy to do from memory! I'm afraid I found a few favorite stitch. I'll have to keep swatching and playing though. My tension inconsistencies really show with this method. Darn tension!!! 😅

Finally, took some time to start Tunisian crochet. My son bought me your book and a set of hooks. I love your book! Am using your book and videos together. They complement each wonderfully. I easily did a swatch from the book, but came to this video to make sure I was doing the ltc correctly. I was! Just my own insecurity from starting a new crochet system. Thank you for your time and hard work providing us with priceless tutorials! You're amazing!
