Outstanding. I had my rates at 1.35-70-70 with 73-mid throttle. I dialed everything back to the rates you showed for freestyle and have had way better control. I’m more a cruiser/freestyle and was having an over steering barrel roll issue. Thank you for your suggestions.

This was AWESOME!!! THANK YOU!!! I started with an Emax Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle and loved it and became very proficient at flying. Then I purchased an Emax Babyhawk 2 HD and found it almost unflyable. I was VERY disappointed and frustrated especially after a lot of money spent on the quad and new DJI V2 goggles. Your video has me flying the quad almost (and I'll get there after more tuning) as well as the Tinyhawk. You've really made vast difference and am looking forward to viewing more of your tuning videos. I understand that KISS, betaflight, might have different settings, then the conversion is done on degrees/s. But how does it match an "actual" drone? What if the hardware cannot actually perform? Would not be better to standardise these curves as Degrees/s (time any number that makes them easier to read if needed), and actually measure the capability of the drone? I guess we could get them within 1 single flight.

If you're dipping down going through the gates, try raise your idle motor speed, so the quad becomes more floaty. Try 1125 or 1150 for example. Also, if you're racing around obstacles, switch from acro mode to horizon mode but dumb down your horizon mode strength from the default of 20 (very strong) to 6 (weak). All these numbers are highly dependent on your quad so, you can try them as a starting point but you'll have to fiddle fart and tweak... go up or down to suit your brain, your quad, your fingers, what you expect to happen when yo move the stick where and how you expect or want the quad to perform. You'll spend months on it tweaking back and forth before you get it close to what you consider perfect. Anything is flyable not perfect, but oh man when you get them near to what your brain wants... it's so much easier to fly like a dream. I put my 6 different rate profiles on my 6 position switch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGfbhY2hdsujiJI fpv.air-war.org

Thanks Tmac, your videos are always very well explained technicallly. I think in betaflight when you do adjustments you can just have the one on and have it set to the whole range. I did have a question, when I limited the throttle (through the taranis not betaflight) it moved my hover point up from around 50% to around 75%, which was difficult to fly. Is there a way to move it back down?
@TMacFPV5 жыл бұрын
Hey Claire! Thank you! Appreciate your feedback and also your question. Let's see if I can help you out here. 1. "moved my hover point up from around 50% to around 75%" - I'm assuming you're "measuring" that as your best guess stick position. 2. You can also view your current "Throttle Position" numerically by toggling this entry ON in the OSD Tab of Betaflight. Just a way to measure it more precisely. 3. You can limit throttle to let's say 75% by using "Clip" type instead of "Scale" inBetaflight. This will then not change the hover point from its initial position. However, you won't be using the full stick range on your transmitter (the top let's say 25% would be cut off). 4. Other ways: You should be able to change the point at which your quadcopter hovers at a specific stick position (a lower stick position) by setting up a "throttle curve" in your transmitter. For a 5-point curve setup this means placing your middle (3rd) point at a positive position on the y-axis. Following link may help: oscarliang.com/throttle-curve/ . Also, although the following link shows how how to increase the stick position at hover, the concept is still valid for your situation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJfUqGepgb6UiKc

@@clairek3280 This Friday's video (Sep 27th) shows how to change "hover point" (or any point on the throttle curve. Should be able to combine that process with throttle scaling. My video on FPV Beginner Tips shows how to do BF throttle scale, or you could probably just put the "top point" of your throttle curve in OpenTX to whatever % throttle you want to have (instead of at 100%) using the same curve you make to move the hover point.

@@garybarnes8743 You got this Gary! I'm on configurator 10.7.0 also. go to Adjustments tab (after you've toggled on Expert Mode). Left-hand column, toggle ON "If enabled" on one of the rows. 2d column-choose the Aux channel you've set up for your rates in your transmitter on Mixes Page of transmitter (i.e. if you're using channel 6 that would be Aux 2 - first 4 channels are not considered Aux channels). Under "Then Apply" column, select Rate profile Selection from drop-down menu. last column "via channel" should be the same as your 2d column Aux channel selection. Finally, size (widen) the slider accordingly and move the slider over the "little yellow blip/marker" when you have your switch in the position you want it fort that Rate profile selection. Your quad will need to be powered on to see the movements of the little yellow blip/marker (ENSURE PROPS ARE OFF PLEASE--no doctors visits today!). I've been looking for a video on how to set up betaflight (BF) for a beginner/novice/newbie/entry-level pilot. The title of this video made me think I had found it. However this video is for "beginner" BF users, not flyers. So could you please either make a video on how to set up a BF configurable drone so that it is easier to fly and learn (call it like "EZ BF settings for new pilots"). Alternately if such a video already exists, just point me to it. Unfortunately BF is by and for "experts". There is no BF setting to select Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced and it sets up your drone for you -- oh how I wish it would. So wading through a plethora of videos is the only alternative for us just starting out with whoops and freestyle drones (non camera ships). THANKS!

Hey Roys Toys, great to hear from you. I've been where you are at now and I couldn't believe there was not an easier way to get involved with this hobby so . . . I created one to help others have a better start than I did. The easiest, quickest and least expensive way I know to get started in this hobby (to include Betaflight setup, transmitter setup, practice drills, etc. through an easy-to-follow step-by-step structured format with detailed graphical checklists) is through the course I created exactly for that purpose, the Fast Track FPV Course (Fast Track meaning, getting in-the-air and having fun as quickly as possible). You can take a look at the course description, curriculum, reviews, and brief bio on myself (so you know I'm legit) at the following site: tmacfpv.thinkific.com/courses/fast-track-fpv Click on drop-down arrows next to each course section for more details on that section in the curriculum. Additionally, I personally support all of my students throughout (and after) enrollment as long as they want/need it through email and messaging. I've also got a beginner-friendly website you can take a look at here: tmacfpv.com/ . Hope this helps you out. Let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached at tmac@tmacfpv.com . @@TMacFPV OK, I've studied your websites. They are indeed helpful for beginners. However, I didn't find anything related to how to tune or tame a drone for getting started using betaflight. Mainly how to make altitude control easier, and that is the hardest part of learning it seems. I have an Emax EZ Pilot (with altitude hold) which is wonderful, but can't be flown outdoors. I've purchased an Arris X110 HD and can get it around my yard OK, except for the altitude hold issue. I have flattened the throttle curve, which helps, but I guess the only magic bullet for "taming the shrew" is practice, practice, practice. I have VelociDrone, and fly an Emax TinyHawk in it, but as with all sims, it's a little too easy compared to the real world. Later...
@TMacFPV4 жыл бұрын
@@roystoys3239 I misunderstood your original question. If you're just trying to "tame" your Quad, set up a throttle limit which IS explained in my "FPV Beginner Tips" video on my site at: tmacfpv.com/free-resources/. I think the newer versions of Betaflight you may need to do it through the CLI command by typing "Set throttle_limit_type = scale" then hit return, then type set throttle_limit_percent = xx" where xx is the % max throttle you want. This is explained in the video. You'd need to type "Save" after the two commands I just mentioned. That should get you started in right direction.

this video describes (for beginners) what rates are, how different rates are used for different flight styles, and how to set them up on a switch to experiment with (as the description states). As rates are personal preference for each individual, there is not one "right answer" for all. However, if you're you're looking for an example of "low rates" to use (since you asked so politely), I'm happy to provide you with my "low rate" setting (1 of 3 rate profiles I have on a 3-position switch as demonstrated in the video). Here it is: ROLL Axis: RC RATE = 0.84, RATE =0.65, RC EXPO = 0.09 Max Vel (deg/sec) = 480 PITCH Axis: RC RATE = 0.84, RATE =0.65, RC EXPO = 0.09 Max Vel (deg/sec) = 480 YAW AXIS: RC RATE = 0.70, RATE =0.49, RC EXPO = 0.02 Max Vel (deg/sec) = 275 Enjoy
@choppergirl4 жыл бұрын
Those rates you are pulling up are for pilots that have been flying for years... decades maybe even. You should not be looking to them to find some kind of baseline where to set your rates. Anything around 1.00 has to be one of the worst rates for beginners. It would be like taking the settings of the world's top 5 formula one race drivers, averaging them out, and then applying them to your Toyota Acura. That's what they did to establish the Betaflight defaults, and in many ways, many of them are... horrid defaults. I'm tempted to set mine back from my optimized rates back to the defaults of 1.00/0.70 just to see again what horrible default Betalflight rates poor beginners start off trying to fly and cope with.... Experiment tried. Oh good god yeah. Awful. Like trying to ride a twitchy bucking bronco or drive while drunk. I mean it's barely flyable, but you have to move your sticks no more than a tiny micron at a time it's set so insanely high. 0.7 can't be the default superrate, if it is, that's insane with a rate of 1.00. Who needs a spin rate that insanely high. Nobody. Please don't try to fly the default rates or anywhere near them haha... all you're going to do is crash... a lot. All the time. Way more than necessary. If you do nothing else to change an insane 1.00 rate, at least set your superrate down to 0.50 on all three axis. I would not fly anything around 1.00/0.50-0.70 at all, thats a fast way to get motion sick and dizzy. LOW SUPERRATE: .22, .22, .22; .82, .84, .80 Try mine, and when you get good at them, inch them up if you want... and by inch them up, I mean by 0.01 at a time... going up 0.01 to 0.23/0.23/0.23 for all your rates, or up 0.01 on all your super rates to 0.83/0.85/0.81... etc. You'll find the higher you go, the faster your rate increases, but the more you lose controlability racing around obstacles and the harder it becomes to aim the nose of your quad in a split second. Also, i fyou're a beginner, you should be figuring all this out and doing this in Liftoff, not with real hardware, or you're just beating up equipment unnecessarily. I mean you can do it with the real stuff, but it's slower and costlier.
