And when thinking on how traits are inherited, you can feel it, it's amazing even if you haven't experienced it. From my ancestors of African American and Native American/Cherokee. Hundreds and thousands of years of cruelty and inhumane treatment flowing in your blood. It's the same as any other culture whose ancestors were slaved, and mistreated. It's the same. This move and story is truth and its very expressive, emotional and elating.

It was the "none of you want to touch" part that got me. I'm white. I vividly recall when I was 12, promoted to Jr Hi, attending schools that had just become fully integrated for the first time, and changing classes all day for the first time. I had maybe half a dozen teachers & classrooms vs just the one. I was focused on the water fountain, just a little down the hall, hoping no line would form & that I could just get a quick sip without being late for class. A white kid bent over the fountain. Dang. That's OK. He'll be done by the time I get there. Just a few more seconds. Nearly there when a black kid bends over the fountain. I stopped dead in my tracks. It was so automatic, so unconscious, the way mindless conditioning is. I stood there like a deer in headlights, then just kind of jerked awake! Resisted the urge to turn away and, with anger at what I realized was "IN" me (I had no name for it!), redoubled my focus & stomped over to that fountain like a conqueror. To this day, I recall how astounded I was that something I absolutely did not consciously believe could nevertheless be IN me & how it pissed me off!

This was a fictional “White Savior” character trope scene didn’t happen. Segregated restrooms stayed and she wasn’t allowed in the Mission Control room. Al Harrison was not real and is not a character in Margot Lee Shetterly's book, Hidden Figures. The screenwriter, Theodore Melfi, made all that up. So a white man needed to put a heroic white man in a story (history) about black women that was written by a black woman.
@williammaser4 ай бұрын

@@K-Lars yeah but if it wasnt a white man to do it back then, who else would? or could? not saying your "inserting a white narrative in films/media" thing isnt true i agree, but the concept in the film is based in reality, because white people have been and are in positions of authority in society, and hence more money than other ethnicities. so the fiction of the added white character creates a believable juxtaposition from Reality -> Film, makes it feels and seem some what legitimate, props to the screenwriter. It wouldn't make sense for a black supervisor to have been a supervisor or to listen/empathize, it would have HAD to have been a privileged white person to have listened/sympathized and made a change. lol

It's a fake "whitey bad movie" meant to divide us. Read this(from K.Johnson wikipedia): In an interview with WHRO-TV, Johnson stated that she "didn't feel the segregation at NASA, because everybody there was doing research. You had a mission and you worked on it, and it was important to you to do your job ... and play bridge at lunch." She added: "I didn't feel any segregation. I knew it was there, but I didn't feel it."
@dishikadillon2 ай бұрын
@@roarkdoubt1365 Yes, NASA had segregated bathrooms in the 1950s at its Langley Research Center. The bathrooms at Langley were unmarked, however, and some employees, like Katherine Johnson, used the white bathrooms without realizing they were segregated. Johnson also refused to use the "colored girls" bathrooms and ate at her desk or at Black-owned restaurants instead of sitting in the segregated cafeteria. In 1958, when the NACA made the transition to NASA, segregated facilities, including the West Computing office, were abolished. It's not always about "Wokeism." It's about the ugly truth America tries to hide.
@feytruet43562 ай бұрын
@@roarkdoubt1365 Most places did not have an "official" policy, or one written on paper because this was a societal standard. A non-White person using any facility or public utility not specifically labelled colored or that was presumed to be "White Only" could result in the equivalent of being cancelled today. Non-Whites could lose their jobs, be lawfully or rightfully assaulted, or even killed for "violating/filthening White Only Facilities." This was further exacerbated by lies and rumors spread that "colored people" were uniquely diseased and/or inflicted with diseases that killed White People. As you see in the movie, the woman enforced that policy as a threat, and being surrounded by White men who likely would enforce it as well, one word from that woman, or the wrong person catching her using that bathroom, her already toxic and hostile work environment could've turned into one of verbal and physical harassment on top of the very real threat of her being fired if she had an employer who also agreed with societal standards. There are actual training guides, recordings, videos, leaflets, and PSAs from that time if you can find one that instruct people on how to work with "the Blacks", and how "the Blacks" should navigate the segregated work place. Wake up.

What? That’s ridiculous. You get paid according to your market value and that goes for everybody. @razzytack4 ай бұрын
@@Antarian2015 The market value is decided by people. Many people are racist and sexist. Racist and sexist people decide that the market value for people of color and women is next to nothing. They also decide that the market value of white men is higher than average. I'm not saying all people are racist, but enough are to affect the market. And I think most people can agree there are plenty of unsavory people in Hollywood. So no, she doesn't get paid what she deserves. She *does* get paid market value. Those are not the same
