There will never be another decade like the 70s. Where did all the groups like Bread and Sylistics go? With the exception of singers like Adele, the industry is pretty sad. For those of us who grew up in the 70s, it was a magical time.

I agree with your comment about Adele, she is such a depressing singer, making younger people who don't have much confidence, SUICIDAL.

It's never about the decade, it's about the transition between them, that threshold where the ending of one decade influences the first half of the next, between (approximately it's not a exact science) 65 and 75 which is my favorite 10yr period, great bands started and created great music, the 70s also brought Blondie very different sound and philosophy than Bread, love it or not. It is in this boundary sometimes referred to as “turn of the decade” where the zeitgeist of the outgoing and incoming decades mix, meshing of ideas results in fresh new sounds. Social change and technology usually help this process. It's been happening for centuries. You like the 70s probably out of nostalgia, we tend to like what we grow up with.

I was stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota spending many freezing and lonely nights on the flight line guarding B52s and this song was played a lot on the local radio station. I remember looking up at the black North Dakotan sky which was saturated with stars along with the Aurora Borealis. This song helped get me through those cold nights. It " Kept me goin'" A great song. Great memories.

this is a song that I cannot ever forget..when I was 21 yrs old I contacted bacterial endocarditis and almost died....I spent 2 months in a hospital in Newark and thank God for Dr. Leon Smith who saved my life. My Mom was deathly afraid of driving in a car but she came to see me every day...when I came home the song that was playing in the house was Guitar Man...I will never forget that..

Superb. Always loved the melancholy in that song. Lovely guitar here by a young Dean Parks. The original version had featured lead guitar from the late, great Larry Knechtel. The same man who played piano on 'Bridge over Troubled Water', organ on 'Good Vibrations' and bass on 'Mr Tambourine Man'. Some legacy, eh?

I don't know why but this was always one of my favorite David Gates (BREAD) tunes. I guess the simplicity of the song and the good melody of it. Of course Gate's voice hooked up with this song just, well, WORKS! It's also a common song for many new Guitarist's to learn to play and sing to. Thanks David for the wonderful memories. I would love to see a BREAD reunion tour although I know a few of the members have passed on. A Bread reunion tour would be so awesome. Gates can STILL SING!

The lead guitarist in the yellow and black shirt is the studio legend Dean Parks. He played a vintage triple humbucker rare Les Paul guitar in black (exactly like Peter Frampton’s). The 1972 studio version of this song featured Larry Knechtel playing lead guitar 🎸, as well as bass guitar on the original track. Cool 😎 stuff! Larry played the piano on Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” song, amongst being a member of The Wrecking Crew studio band, which he played on most of The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” LP, and the legendary unreleased “Smile” LP, along with him playing on so many other bands hit songs since the early 1960’s.....

I can't believe he's 77yo. He had such a young face back then - thought he was closer to my age. A truly great song-spinner. His writing and delivery sucked you in. Sounds simple on the surface, but the musicality is intricate. I know he had a bunch of hits, but he was way too critically underrated at the time.

His amazing talent, his soft voice, the perfection of his melody, there is just something incredibly sexy about it. Wow!

Reminds me of my childhood and early high school years when a song meant everything to you. Emotions ran with the song on the radio.
